my husband and i were at the "snow show" and we were completely crazy caus we drove there and home. dont really know how now. ill never forget. my poppa is gone like jerry but memories like this that can be shared give me alittle faith that family will endure as long as the music does
this song brings me to tears! at the time my husband to be and i danced the night away! or should i say spinned?at this time in our lives we have been together 21 years and it gets better every year!
This stella blue is easily one of the top ten songs of the '90's. Looking at it still freaks me out how deep jerry went on this stella blue, and as i have said before stella blue was the best of garcia's after drum's ballad so to speak and trust i ama stone cold morning dew man.
one of the best examples of audience participation, true audience participation, not some cheesy hey sing along crap. They caused what happened. Beautiful.
Great video. I will NEVER understand the people that came to a Dead show and just *talked* thru the entire thing ! You have your whole life to talk, shut up for a few minutes, Jerry is singing !!
there was a crystal clear live version in "the Grateful Dead" movie that showed a concert in San Francisco. it's not anywhere on youtube. does anyone know where else it could be found & if you can, please post or upload it. It's the one that opens with a "U.S. Blues" music video cartoon. Gerry was in his prime in that one. It must have been filmed in the late 60's early 70's.
i was at this show, one year exactly before my first accident. First show was cancelled because of snow, they opened up the show with cold, rain and snow!
totally was at this show, it was insane, blizzard of 93', they were selling floor space for $10 @ the local holiday inn cuz there were like 20,000 stranded hippi's in richfield. They had this like huge room with the pool and it was like shakedown inside the hotel, was pretty awesome. they closed down the interstate, the dead cancelled the 1st night, glad i had a ticket for the 2nd, it took me 3 days to get home, (i live 14 hrs away in pa) God I miss it..
I was there too. If I remember correctly, the fire marshal declared it a state of emeregency, and people got to stay for free. I was at Chicago before these shows. 3-10-93 was my 15th b-day...and I ended up running away and going on tour. Wow what an amazing expierence it all was.
They didn't cancel either of the Tempe shows in '92. And there was a day off built in between Denver and Tempe. A lot of fans driving down from Denver didn't make the first night because of the weather, but the band and their equipment got there fine.
it's always funny to me how people put so much effor into getting to a show and then they chat with their buddys through a song like this. prob phish fans now......
hey deadhead CO, I saw the dead in denver around 12/2/92. They played Arizona the next day and had to cancel because winter weather affected their travel time. Great denver show on my birthday!
Jeeeerrrrrrryyyyyy!!!!!!!!! I remember hearing this New Year's Eve Oakland Coliseum 1987......just a blue light shining down on Jerry....the place was still..you couldn't even hear a pin drop....very emotional......i was realllllly enjoyed it
there was 1 good thing about the boy's in the 90's and it was this stella blue, alright maybe 4 other things but that is giving them the benefit of the doubt. i gotta be honest the 90's were the absolute weakest part of their career, and bob bralove putting that oh so lame midi in garcia's guitar was THEE worst thing that happened.ever.
i liked the flute, the pipe organ sound, and the horns Jer used, and Bralove is a super smart and sweet guy, and they hired him for good reasons. peace
That midi just goes to show you how BORED jerry was.Since i started catching show's in the later part of the 70's i kinda got used to hearing guitar sounds come from garcia's guitar now when it comes time for jerry's solo's in say eye's,terrapin, birdsong and for that matter every solo he took i want to hear GUITAR sounds for years jerry had about 4 knobs and he used about 3 peddles at the end he had like 9 knobs and 15 peddles to make noise.bralove should have stuck in that other band he wasin
OMG still hardwill always miss him and this is in the top 5 of my grearesr experience in my whole life, U can not be thankful enough for the soul rouching masterpiece.
Holy #$%? I remember that show. When I lived in Ohio. the Blizzard show....Yes the stranded hippies. Well our friends cousin took at least 8-14 people to crash at a his relatives house. My fondest memories were at 7am watching all the "guest" totally cleaning up the whole kitchen etc. after late basement party. Blew all those stereotypes away. Good people. I didn't get into that show but had been to about two or three before. Yeah. The Blizzard show at the Richfield.... thank u

i would say that to anyone that doesnt get the whole Dead magic should watch this video...if you still dont get it, you never will = ) ...i would agree with Boscomorgan, its the reason stella is one of my alltime favz, and be so freakin happy when id see it live...id have to throw in a big vote for my other fav, Crazy Fingers
at the end of the band's career stella blue was the hottest garcia ballad, though i am a tru morning dew fan, stella blue was 100 times tighter and it really hurts for me to say that.
Stella was the song i always hoped for when i got into the 67 bus and headed for the campground.. yeah my 1st show was at the Uptown in Chicago 1980 ...Peace
Wow! Me + a friend drove from N. VA to these shows through the blizzard. The Richfield Holidome rocked! Picture Dead lot indoors. We had made up these Darkstarfergnugen shirts & nearly sold out in the hotel. Before the 2nd show--we were busted by Richfield's finest for "Vending w/o a License." They took all our cash, shirts, and left us with change + a $1 food stamp. Saving grace - we still had our 2nd Row Jerry mail orders: Sec B, Row 2, Seats 13-14. Thought IFTL was played just 4 us...lol.
Ah-the infamous "blizzard' show from Richfield. The good old days. Odd thing is, other than this, cold rain, and I fought the law, I recall this being a rather sub-par show. I also remember being snowed in at the hotel and tripping my face off in the hotel room-yuk,lol. Still, this takes me back...
Stella Blue can make you see GOD...without psychedelics! If you were at a GRATEFUL DEAD show, and closed your eyes and let the song move you, you would be in a other Worldy space where GOD is in you, all around you...call it some hippie dippie shit i don't care, it's true! any real head will tell you the same
This is from the 93 spring tour with the snowed out first show at Richfield. I don't know about best ever but it is definately noteable. Exquisitely dripping tempo, Awesome first lead, short vocal lead but absolutely spectacular 2nd lead. What a crescendo.
For vocal stylings I would have to point you to 8/1/94. Jerry's last B-day show. Incredible vocal lead.
Greetings..I was at this show as well..Much apreciation for this post..It's funny I was talking to a friend tonight about how much I loved Jerry Garcia..He is always playing from his heart..What you see and hear is what you get...Jerry is Love..
Tears rolling down my eyes I knew when I saw this Stella I had witnessed one of the most incredible "journeys" of Jerry. Thank you Jerry... I miss you
the community was fantastic! The Grateful Dead was a mighty river carving into the worlds psyche, now we who were there are part of the water, streams and river of the experience...
I just found all these Dead videos..Thanks to all of you. I miss Jerry so much! I just had a daughter and we named her Stella Blue. This video will be sent with announcements. THANKYOU!!!!!!!
When he would hit that "Stella Blue chord", the A7sus4, there would be no place else in the universe, including Heaven, that I would rather be than in that auditorium. The Grateful Dead - Now More Than Ever.
the dead & mr.garcia, and the whole saga mean so much to me,whenever i sing terripin or some good syd barrett, its pretty hard to keep the lumps out of my throat...much love, all my brothers & sis's from afar...:>
I passed on tickets to this show due to final exams, but taped the FM simulcast on the radio. I've been listening to this Stella Blue for 14 years and it STILL gives me goosebumps.
i really did not dig the music the boys were putting out in the 90's i hated with a passion his midi i mean despised it.but it was a stella blue like this that was jerry tellin me'' yo bro thanx for stickin by me'' after 300 plus shows i saw i owed him that
I repeatedly (about 10 times)listened to the build up from that note at 6:53 that he comes back continuously until 7:35, when he takes it to another level, and then makes EVERYONE in the audience cum until about the 8:40 mark when he finally begins to let every have their souls back. Certainly one of Jerry's best jams of the 90s.
One of the greatest stellas I was ever lucky enough to see live. I miss Jerry Every Friggin' Day. There was nothing like a dead show, and there will never be. Like Al funk says it hits a cord in the brain and takes me back to when the music never stopped.
jerry really got off on stella blue at the end of his days as is shown here it brings tears to my eyes. stella blue was tighter then morning dew in the 90's
The last dead show i ever attended(with or w/o jerry)was at shoreline in '94 and they played "Stella" the best i'd ever heard to this day. This is pretty close tho. Jerry lives, now and forever.I'll never forget that show!
Wow, this was my last Dead show. When the guy pans out to a full band show, it's just about the view I had that night. Absolutely amazing to see this again!
I'll never forget this night, they cancelled the previous show due to the massive blizzard. This show was disappointing overall but this Stella Blue is pretty fantastic. Now we just need a video of the 3-21-94 Stella Blue, also from Richfield. It's a classic.
I'll never forget the first time I read your comment. My internet connection was down due to non-payment, but it finally got turned on again. Your comment was disappointing overall, but the fact that it's focusing on a positive element is fantastic.
I was at this show as well and I would say that it's probably the most underated shows of 1993. The Cold Rain opener, the Brown Eyed Women, the Lazy River, the Terrapin- all of them were absolutely first class 1990's Dead. Personally, I think the storm the night before brought them more energy. Check out the whole show on audio archive.
pretty nice. if you folks can track down 3/30/94, there is a stella blue on that show that is extraordinarilly astounding. virtuosicness in the solo that belongs in the crucible.
excellent but the camera moves way back on jerrys increible solo...dam

I passed on tickets to this show due to final exams, but taped the FM simulcast on the radio. I've been listening to this Stella Blue for 14 years and it STILL gives me goosebumps.

I enjoy the sounds which come from the speakers, which amplify the notes played on Jerry's guitar.

I like the way my brain reacts to the sounds I hear in this video. It takes me back to another place and time.

pretty nice. if you folks can track down 3/30/94, there is a stella blue on that show that is extraordinarilly astounding. virtuosicness in the solo that belongs in the crucible.
