Wet Tail

This is so sad. I think my hammie Cookie might have it. i just saw tonight her tail is wet. The bedding was sticking to her. We thought it was because she just cleaned herself, but I saw there was a lot of extra droppings in her cage. The top of her tail is wet too. Under her eyes looks a little different. I am worried. The hammie is my kid's who is 6.

My hamster doesn't really drink a lot of water eats some food sleeps hunched but I bought him like that and he sleeps a lot

I HATE WET TAIL BUT NVR HAPPENED BUT MY DOG CHEALSEY KNOCKED DOWN THE CAGE AND KILLED THEM WE FOUND OUT 3 minutes later while me my brother and dad were siting at the table eating my mom said I am gonna let the dogs out of hopes room so she opened it stepped in my room and said" OH MY GOSH HOPE NOAH JASON COME HERE NOW AND WE HEARD CRYING" I walked in and screamed loudly saing Lilly Amanda come here cage was calapsed betting every wear we couldn't find neither Lilly robo dwarf or Amanda fancy

That cage is filthy, my hamsters need to be kept clean and tidy. Provide a food bowl next time. And use wood chips as bedding. Spend around $100 making the hammie feel good. Never let another species of animal near your hamster. Always use a damp cloth to clean inbetween bars. And always put a damp (not fully wet) cloth/towel over the cage to allow fresh atmospheric conditions inside the cage. If you need any help or advice, please inbox me.

@hamstersguineapig You can buy "Dri-Tail" reccommended by most pet stores and I myself am a "Dri-Tail" user, I have saved hamsters using this (so far out of my 11 lovely hamster 3 have suffered and surved out of 1 fatal case.) You can help prevent this by putting "Dri-Tail" into the water, it not only cures but can also act as a preventer, however this is not 100% guarenteed to prevent Wet-Tail. If your hamster gets Wet-Tail with the water already being medicated, you'll have to treat oraly.

@WHIZZYWUZZA No it's not a symptom. Wet-Tail is a Diarreah it'll usually begin with a wet bottom. Worse cases it'll be actual poop.

Dwarf hamsters like robos can be prone to diarrhea and diabetes. They are so small so I guess go easy with the fresh foods (veggies and fruits).

wet tail is highly contagious. Stress,crowding and diet changes I understand can cause this. Also, over the counter drugs like Dri-tail will only mask the symptoms. I guess a sick hammy like this would need a vet to kill off the deadly bacteria. I didn't know Syrians were more likely to get this and not so much robos. Thanx 101robohamsters.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My first Syrian had wet tail and I was too late. :'( My second hamster was a Dwarf and she never got it and is still alive. The my third hamster (Syrian) caught Wet Tail and luckily we brought her back and they helped her. :')

that happened to my hamster Poppy. she died within like at least 3 days. I wasn't there for her and she miserably died. i found out when i wanted to check on her and i noticed what looked like difficulty moving and stuff. imma get teh wet tail treatment. i cant believe my mom threw it away like the corpse was worthless. i whated to bury her but the body doesnt count.the soul does. I WANT A NEW HAMMY!!! only with medecations for it.

Hey there, its not regarding the wet tail but my hamster seems to be grooming/scratching a alot. Didn't waste time and first thing I did was to get anti-mites spray and cleaned her habitat, she still scratched so I removed the pine bedding and regulated her diet, she still scratches, thought she might be feeling unclean so got her sand bath. I have tried all the possible options I can, if this continues to happen, do you have any suggestions for me?

@srevinUreuqnoC I cleaned her with anti-mites as well. Took out the bedding. Have been cleaning her sleeping area every 12 hours. Food, sticking to pellets and grains, no sunflower seeds or corns. I just dont know what could be causing this :(
