i like your tank set up, it looks nice, and so do your fish, maybe when i get my next tank i will set it up similarly, the bridge looks cool. im going to do a roman theme in mine, and i have a video up of it now, but there isnt much to see haha
cool tank. if i had my choice i would have gotten gravel in my aquarium. but the fish guy who came to set it up put in sand. i just added my goldfish today. i now have a fantail, a black moore and a red and white ryukin . i have a29 gallon Chinese themed tank. the black moore loves to swim under the little bridge i got for them. SO CUTE!
I think sand looks Exellent but it does pose a couple of problems.
You have to be carfull that grains don't get in behind glass cleaners and cause scratching.
Syphoning substrate isn't made too difficult you just sorta have to hover above the sand.
The only other problem i encounter is that 'fish waste' is easily visible just a day or two after syphoning (water change). So if your going for sand you may also want to invest in a spare 'turkey baster' to tidy up every no & then!
how big are your goldfish now? I just bought a 46 gallon bow front for my 4 fantail goldfish I bought in May. They just got moved into the new tank this last Christmas. They were in a 28 gallon bowfront until they got too big. I also bought that same bridge for the new tank. Cool. Check out my video of them.
Awesome tank and fish. Love the wall of bubbles to. Are you sure that Calico is a Ryukin? he's the double of mine and I thought mine was just a fantail.
awsome did you buy the walmart delux kit i did except i have a bunch of live pplants lots of gravle oh and 3 filter the one that came with the kit a bio-wheel and a power filter i love ur tank
I have sand with my goldfish also.. they like it much better... i have 8 goldfish and 2 golden dojo loaches in a 45 gallon... u can see them on my boyfriends videos on the user account cichlidwonder... he has cichlids.. i have goldfish =)
This makes me feel bad... you have a humongous tank. And all I can get is a little one, but its all we can afford. I'm going to go buy a fancy goldfish tomorrow.
It's okay to have a little one as long as you don't put too many fish in it. But I wouldn't put one fish in anything smaller than a 10 gallon. For two I would have a 20 gallon. Bigger is always better.
If you want a small tank with more than one fish in it, consider tropical fish like guppies instead, who are colorful but small enough that they won't overstock the tank.
I have a 20 gallon that I'm using now for my 2 fancy goldfish now. I got it a long time ago and I thought we had gotten rid of it but I found it and cleaned it up.
Very nice tank and very healthy looking fish :) The sand looks nice but I don't know whether I would like it in my tank. What sort of filter are using?
Please don't try the sand. I liked it then but then changed my mind. These fish have been moved to another tank about equal in size. The substrate I use in both tanks is now a very tiny type of gravel just heavy enough not to be sucked up by a siphon hose.
Ah right. I don't use any substrate in my tank as you can see my looking at any of my videos. I like the bottom of the tank to be clear for cleaning and for the fishes health (getting a piece of gravel stuck in their throat or a build up of harmful gasses/ bacteria within the gravel).
The sand is only bad because it ruins filters. : / It's relatively easy to clean. The gravel that I have is so small that if one of my fish ate it, they could easily pass it through. Siphoning stirs up gases. The only time gases are a worry are in a sand-substrate tank, which you don't siphon deeply.
I don't know what a money plant is. All of the plants in my video are plastic or silk (though these fish now have live java ferns and do not eat them, thankfully).
Thanks, I'm really enjoying it! I have two more fish in quarantine. They'll go into this tank in another week. I can't wait. After that I won't be buying any more fish for this tank.
beautiful setup I like it, I love your red capped oranda. Is that gravel on the bottom? if it is becareful ok? there had been many goldfish died from getting a gravel stuck in its mouth. and if it's sand then it's bad because the sand might irritate its gill
Hah, no, it's sand. It's not bad. They can expel it easily. Gravel does choke fish, and the large rocks that I had let too much food fall between them. On the sand my goldfish can get leftover food easily. It also does not cloud the water.
The oranda is my favorite as well. I will be getting one more for this tank--probably an orange and black oranda.
what temperature do you keep your tank>?

is it ok if we use sand gravel for tropical fish tanks?
imCrippin408 2 years ago
Yes, it's actually much easier to clean because the wastes stay on top instead of going through pockets in gravel.
CaDiLaCxPiMp 2 years ago
thanks man :D
imCrippin408 2 years ago
Your welcome, just remember, if you don't have a bottom feeder (Example: Cory cats) you have to stir the sand up everytime you do a water change.
