  • He finished with 3 minutes til whopner.

  • great now to find @Kalebs55's comment day 21: running out of food and water

  • Excellent performance. But my favorite was Max Von Sydow in Pelle, The Conqueror.

  • he didnt thank barry or tom...

  • yea. yea, yea, yea..... yea

  • Tom hanks kisses his wife right as the winner is announced

  • Didn't thought Max von Sydow would show up, big surprise. ^^

  • Some people here are complaining that he doesn't thank Tom Cruise or Barry Levinson in his speech, but the truth is that at 3:05 he thanks "all the producers, cast and crew."

  • was he acting like rain man when he was delivering his speech?

  • thumbs up if you paused this vid somewhere to see all the famous people.

  • the only real competition was gene hackman--- but they are such polar opposite- roles, hard to say which was better.

  • God he is awkward.

  • @Misteron20

lol hes acting... he played a retard in Rain man

  • no thanks to Tom Cruise? That's who Dustin had to play off for the entire movie.

  • HOW DO I REACH THESE KEEDS?!

  • River fucking Phoenix <3

  • I loved BIG

  • learn how to spell esther

  • Dustin Hoffman is a legend and a real actor, not just a beatiful face and a hot body.

  • Gene Hackman was just brilliant in Mississippi Burning. A real powerhouse performance. Its a shame he didn't get the gong.

  • @CyeOutsider I dont feel too bad. He has two gold statues to his name as it is :D

  • Love Dustin Hoffman in his movies I hear Rain Man was Good and Classic

  • Wow, he looks just like Raymond, always looking up and stuttering :D

  • 1:27 omg its River Phoenix! love Dustin!

  • Where was Jeremy Irons in "DEAD RINGERS" ???

  • oh, that´s nice: tom hanks is kissing his wife in the moment of the announcement while all the others are "chewing nails" :-)

  • Its a shame Gene hackman didn't win,i thought he was amazing in mississipi burning.

  • @lukeyboymufc1990 Agree. He was robbed.

  • Never go full retard

  • @TheXiaping Unfortunately you never score an Oscar for going 'full retard' which I think is unfair.

  • God bless Dustin Hoffman for mentioning Kim Peek the inspiration for this film! I had the honor of meeting Kim Peek in person at a conference for others with the same disability as Kim Peek, he was a wonderful man. May Kim Peek rest in peace... God Bless both Dustin Hoffman and Kim Peek!

  • you never go full retard

  • You can't get your second Oscar at K-Mart now, right Dustin?

  • Gene Hackman didn't seem to happy about the nomination.

  • This was an unbelievable movie. Hoffman played such a great part. A true actor !

  • never go full retard

  • Great choice. And btw, K-Mart sucks.

  • dustin and robert to oscars, for little fuckers, that unacceptable

  • NOT RECOGNISED

  • Falling Down is... That movie Papillon...

Dustin Hoffman makes movies with Robert Deniro now. And Stiller and Meara's son. At least he's no Chaz Bono.

    liberal douchebags

  • @SuperMegaUberGenius You know your comment made absolutely no sense, right? Or was it supposed to be a stream-of-consciousness kind of thing?

  • Why doesn't my previous comment have any thumbs up?

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 Because I thumb down every single one you receive.

  • @COPAMUND99 Lol.

  • I liked that they played The Legends of the Hidden Temple theme in the backgeound

  • I swear to God, if this comment doesn't make it to the Top Comments, I am going to kill everyone I know.

To those of you who think Hoffman is still in character: did you see Rain Man? That's the movie he won the Oscar for, in case you didn't know. Hoffman's character didn't act ANYTHING like how Hoffman acted upon winning this Oscar. Nothing whatsoever.

Besides, wouldn't you be ecstatic too if you won an Oscar? No? You wouldn't have tears in your eyes? You'd know exactly what to say? Oh, please.

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 Stanislavskij method is like that! When u play a character, u're not just PLAYIN' the character during the shooting of the movie, and when the shootings are over u magically return to be urself..That shit is good for theater, but in the movies REAL PROFESSIONAL ACTORS are used to get to BE the characters they play..so even in real life they start to act like their character..it's difficult to explain but that's how it is!

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 yes i agree with you he is in shock ... caue if i won a oscar last minute i wouldn have done the same thing :)

  • does he kiss two women after douglas pronounces his name????

  • he should of thanked Tom for having the patience to stand in a cramped fart box with him

  • @MichaelChapman18 Learn to write and speak english before u diss Dustin Hoffman! I'm waitin' to see u act like the old man did in the movie "Rain Man", and if u'll do better I'll respect u and buy all ur films in the original DVD copy.

  • He's an excellent driver

  • @FelixFigWatkins Definitely!

  • cant stop thinking about Hook when i see that grin.

  • He should thank Tom Cruise. He doesn't win without Tom playing off of him.

  • damn what a stacked lineup

  • Does any group take themselves as seriously as the Academy? They're people pretending to be other people. They haven't cured cancer or brought peace to the world.

  • @bailinnumberguy and so?........

  • @bailinnumberguy the academy is about 4000 people, and almost all of them are directors, screenwriters or actors...

  • dustin win deservedly.

  • great movie :)

  • Uhm i like how everyone is like "Tom Cruise is this and that, and people tend to not like him because of his personality and this and this".. i think you forget the man is part of Scientology, and i've heard actors in interviews saying that it was hard to work with Cruise, not in the takes, but outside of them because the guy would try and get them to join fuckin Scientology... it's ridiculous!

  • was he still in character for this speech??? lol

  • @COMMANDRofAWESUM lol it seems

  • 13 people are fans of Robert Pattinson...

  • There are women I know who said they no longer find Cruise attractive - he turned them off w his jumping on Oprah's couch etc.

But that is irrelevant to his performance on the screen.

Sorry if this sounds elitist but some people don't go to movies to appreciate characters, acting, etc. They just want to be titillated with eye candy.

  • Captain Hook

  • Deserved victory! Well done Dustin Hoffman!

  • ahhhh river phoenix at the bottom left of the screen 1:28-1:29

  • Why does no one stand up for him!!!!??? He deserved this oscar so much

  • @kalebs55 Uhm... everybody stood up.

  • @kalebs55 1:43....

  • best role ever.

  • I like that Rain Man won the same awards The King's Speech won.

  • wtf ? Is he retarded really ?

  • @l1998 What made you think he was?

  • River Phoenix is there!! Behind Gene.

  • Tom Hanks in Big was incredible too !

  • Wow he seemed nervous

  • Dustin Hoffman is still in his role to some degree.....I am not sure if it is on purpose or he is till on his role.....i know that he is trained in a method acting

  • A pure gentleman.

  • This speech sucks. Sorta shocking, when compared to his excellent speech when he won for Kramer vs Kramer.

  • I'd...like to thank...Charlie Babbit... K-mart sucks.

  • is it his natural way of talking? i think he seems a bit nervous standing on there

  • does he always talk like that?

  • Dustin, you should have acknowledged Tom as your visual counterpoint; the foundation which you both created was a rare and fascinating dynamic, impossible to accomplish alone.

  • Does anyone else think that the flower on his jacket looks like a weird lizard-like creature?

  • @EoinnGalvin

'round these parts we call it a Gordon Gecko

  • Look at Michael Douglas!!! A too big suit with a too small bowtie - gotta love the 80's! :D

  • he blinks a lot ;)

  • agree with Radz117; Cruise is brillant in this movie, he haved to nomined.

  • Dustin Hoffman could go on for 20 minutes and they wouldnt give him the move along music. hes fucking dustin hoffman...

  • I think the reason why Dustin Hoffman is stuttering is because he is still in character.

  • I LOVE TOM HANKS!!! He's kissing his wife, Rita, while Michal Douglas is announcing the winner. In BOTH of his Oscar WINS he kisses Rita before doing anything else... such an honorable man =)

Dustin Hoffman TOTALLY deserved this one tho... he took it acting to a new level with Raymond

  • great actor !!!

  • Oh yeah, well why don't you tell that to Rain Man, because he practically bankrupt a casino...and he was a Ratard!

  • DID ANYONE SPOT MERYL STREEP, SHE LOOKED AWAY WHEN DUSTIN GOT UP TO ACCEPT HIS AWARD, I WONDER WHAT THAT WAS ALL ABOUT.....

  • @IRONBABE82 she was saying something to the person next to her...I'm pretty sure she didnt intentionally look away from him

  • @IRONBABE82 Nothing at all. It was a sudden shift that looked weird, but was just coincidence.

  • @IRONBABE82

mayeshe was following something on the screen?

  • i dont know if its the 80s but michael douglas looks like a fucking asshole.

  • @luxi378 And you are one..........

  • I'm disappointed he didn't mention Tom Cruise at all. Because it was the partnership that made it credible. They were totally believable as brothers.

  • good job dustin

  • he's nervous because he forgot to go to K-mart

  • Lol why the fuck he's so retarded nervous? Stuttering his ass off. He deserved the oscar. It was Dustin's and Cruise's best movie ever.

  • @KeNnYoOsHoX2

    And "The graduate" ?

  • Stand and Deliver I saw that movie great movie but Dustin Hoffman definately deserved the award.

  • <3

  • Even though Hoffman should have gotten the Oscar for Midnight Cowboy, doesn't mean he didn't totally deserve it for this film

  • I think he still had a little bit of "Rain Man" in him in that speech, his mannerisms and stutter and pitch were all that of Raymond's, or "Rain Man's," in the movie.

  • @jimmypopper sometimes, it can take time to get off character.

  • wow....that was river phoenix in the audience....man....what a beautiful and talented young actor...what a loss....damn.

  • thanks for raising awareness of autism dustin. you really got the ball rolling :) x

  • I am his biggest fan on EARTH..!!!!!!!! I have watched all his movies so far n I am DYING to meet him atleast once.. He is the BEST actor in the History of Universe, not just now but in the millions of years to come...!!!!

  • Look at that hair. Dammnnnn

  • hes acting like he is a savant while accepting the oscar how typical of an actor LOL!!!

  • he got it because he didnt go full retard

  • @AChrisVProduction let me guess tropic thunder?? :P

  • @AChrisVProduction ahahah that's why simple jack was a failure

  • @AChrisVProduction brilliants comment

  • @AChrisVProduction hahahahah!!! ah, tropic thunder was awesome :)

  • does he have a stutter?

  • @mik2y Oh no, he's just incredibly humble and grateful for winning the Oscar. It happens all the time with Oscars. You should see his Oscar speech for Kramer vs. Kramer. Besides being eloquent, he was very articulate.

  • i didnt vote for you guys lol

  • Dustin is a great actor. "Midnight Cowboy", "The Graduate", "Tootsie", anyone? But, he won the Oscar for playing the same note for 2 hours in this movie? What a yawner.

  • @jckfmsincty He was amazing! The only reason he's "one note" a vague criticism only people ignorant of what acting actually is, was because he played an autistic character....

What was he supposed to change? Give me a break.

  • love all the nominees....

  • Did he social phobia have

  • edward james olmos was robbed.

  • @cattiguen He was great, but I respectfully disagree.

  • I think Tom Hanks was either just kissing his girl or was thinking he had this in the bag at 1:12.

  • I like the fact that he doesn't exclude the people that he met to study is role

  • @512kapow He forgot Temple Grandin

  • I LOVE HIM!!!!! :)

  • Somebody invent a time machine.

  • I love how shocked Dustin looks that he won! Hes an amazing actor theres no need to be surprised!

  • @notwhtuc Contrast with Cage's reaction when he won ... it's as if he knew all along that he was gonna bag it.

  • Gordon Gekko - yeah baby! Greed is good! Michael Douglas gives a hell of a presentation speech. Dustin is clearly short, but certainly not on talent. Thought he shoulda won for Tootsie too. That and Rainman are both unforgettable characters.

Radz117 - you're absolutely right - Cruise was underrated in this movie. Played a complex, sympathetic character.

  • One of the most deserving Oscars in all of motion picture history!!!

  • He sure is a good method actor. He's still in his role!

  • 1:26 River Phoenix

  • They sure as heck got that right.

  • No one gives credit for Tom Cruise in this film. His acting was supoib! Just cause he didn't play someone mentally retarded, disabled or Austistic doesn't mean his acting should go unforseen.

  • @Radz117 I agree, his acting was really good, too

however playing rainmans role i think still takes alooot of skill

  • @Radz117 Just for the record, it's unseen, foreseen means predicted, and I agree.

  • @Radz117 Seems like every1 Cruise works with eventually gets an AA (Oscar) accept 4 him.

  • @Radz117 well he is all of these things above !NOW! so everything turns out fine :)

  • @Radz117 They didn't give him credit to him probably coz he's a scientologist and scientologists are mentally retarded!

  • @HyperNessie hahaha!!! That's a good one.

  • @Radz117 completely agree with you

  • Cruise has been ignored or dismissed by some audiences & film insiders over the years....

He's not taken seriously oftentimes - he even got fired by Paramount. That's partly perhaps because he is sort of a flake in person sometimes. And it makes it easy for people to role their eyes and label him a mimbo - an empty suit who just looks good for women in leading man roles.

But that attitude would be ignorant - He worked w elites like Newman & Scorsese . He should get more respect ...

  • @Radz117

    he wasnt that great

  • It was a great and moving speech -- but you still gotta love the classic "walking the wrong way off the stage."

  • anyone can play an arrogant prick, stop praising Tom Cruise. Hoffman made the movie.

  • @dobren4444 not true you dumb motherfucker. tom cruise is a great actor, not as great as hoffman maaybe, but hes still a great actor

  • Mediocre year for best actor. Dustin Hoffman has doen much better work.

  • I miss Gene Hackman.

  • this is the most AMAZING movie i will ever see in my life!!

  • 0:38 Sore loser :D

  • No real competition....even if there was Hoffman would romp it, one of the best performances by anyone..EVER!

  • One of the greatest character performances in the history of the film medium, performed by one the true all-time greats of the acting profession!

  • I love how Dustin mentions his Dad. How sweet :)

  • i think tom cruise should've been nominated instead

  • @Yakten15 Come on come on. You can't be serious :)

  • UNA DE LAS MEJORES ACTUACIONES QUE HEVISTO EN MI VIDA; NO SOLO SU ACTUACION ES BUENA, SINO TODA LA PELICULA. ESA PAREJA QUE HACE CON TOM CRUISE ES UNA DE LAS MEJORES QUE HE VISTO EN EL CINE. MUY ACERTADO!

  • damnn who is that hottie Tom Hanks is kissing there?

  • @Casarzino - that would be Rita Wilson, but I'm sure you already knew that...

  • Don't worry, Tom Hanks. You'll get your fill in a few years. lol

  • Lol, it looked like Tom Hanks already knew he didnt have a chance when they were announcing the winners. freaking Hackman from Mississipi Burning and Hoffman from Rainman.

  • More like James ALMOST.

    Amirite? XD
