This is one of the best 4 mallet pieces I've heard. My friend is playing it for Solo and Ensemble, and I'm thinking about learning it myself. It's beastly.
What? Taking dynamics into his own hands too far? He barely added more than what's on the page. In fact, he didn't do enough of what's on the page. Also, adding dynamics that make sense shows great musical maturity.
