I can't find anywhere online how the DNA sequencing turned out. Does anyone know? Was it the mummification process or the time that causes the DNA issue?
Chalk me up as yet another Brier fan. But I've always had a hard time accepting the idea that the ancient Egyptians thought the brain was "useless" and that you "thought with your heart". These people were as intelligent as us and when a soldier got a head injury or from a construction accident, and his mental faculties were compromised, the ancient physicians HAD to have made the connection. Also, I think the headrests were ceremonial, they knew that pillows/cushions were more comfortable.
Wow, this is amazing. Professor Bryer is my hero. I adore his lectures and enthusiasm, he really is amazing. I may be blind/visually impaired, but I so want to study Egypt (I'm not sure what a blind person can do, but it is my dream!).:)!
I had Dr. Brier as a professor at Long Island University-- CW Post a few years back.... he's amazing. I teach sixth grade Social Studies now and I get to teach all about Egypt. I feel like I have so much to offer thanks to my experiences with Dr. Brier.
I really couldn't agree more, he's been a really driving force in my own studies.
I just wish I had the means to thank him, he truly has been an inspiration and I can attest to what he claims within the lecture series he gave for the teaching company, ancient Egypt really is a place you can lose yourself within.

I am doing a mummification soon with a stillborn pig (right now we're in the research stage) and this just helped me greatly.
Thanks.

Well Bob, you certainly answered a lot of questions that I had. Something else I would like to know that wasn't mentioned, is :
How soon after death would the dead be mummified? Did it take place right after, like hours, or within a day or so?
Also, at what point did the mummy start to discolor to how the ancient Egyptian mummies looked?
phoenician7 2 years ago
where can i find the ACTUAL mummification vid? i know it was released by national geographic in 1994, labeled 'mr. mummy'
can't find it on the national geographic website, ebay, youtube...
