this is absolutly the way of the future.. touch panels and mobile devices are ok for home automation, but voice is just so much easier.. newer more advanced 'educated' voice recognition programs will emerge within the next few years..
Hey Ben, I have homeseer , can you tell me how you can set up where you use another pc with homeseer to operate the main pc's homeseers. And can you use texting from cell phone to comand homeseer. how would you set that up. Thanks bob
i can do this for virtually nothing using windows 7 speech recognistion, using my program on startup and have a k8055 hooked upto a relay that switches live on the light in question, therefore all i do is start computer, say "start listening" then say "Bedroom light" or anything else and it will turn on / off accordingly.
I was thinking about doing this, but I just dont think the voice recognition is good enough yet. I could do it quicker, and without having to emphasise pivotal inflections and repeatng myself occasionally (unnecessary effort, really), without all this. If I do, I'll probably just code the master program myself, and hope someone doesn't hack my room ;)
I've had good luck with Active Home Pro($50), and the voice recognition plug-in BVC(Bill's Voice Commander-$30). X10 here for 15 yrs or so. Wireless mic ($50) . "Callie" lets me know when the dryer turns off. When the garage doors are opening or closed. Front door opens/closes, and many others. I can have wav files play in response, instead of voice. It's just all too cool.
thanks for talking about your system. I do have a question about your microphone. Can you tell me what you use for the microphone and is it in more than one room? Is it tied to the phone at all? I had a Home Automated Living (HAL) type system a while back but was never really happy with just a desktop microphone. Have you tried that one? Thanks for any info you can provide.
Just search for X10 technology UK in Google. I am using a cm11a computer interface. The equipment isn't all that expensive each appliance module costs around $40 here in Aust and around $100 for the PC module.
I use Homeseer Standard running on Windows Server 2003. I know it costs but I have tried well over 10 other home automation programs and Homeseer is in my opinion simply the best!
I use the x10 system, I have it housewide. I liked the idea of the voice commands, I see the program is called "Homeseer" but google isn't furnishing too much information. Any insight?
I have a brief video of my system if you're interested.
You appear to be using the same X10 modules as I used in the video except mine have Australian plugs on them. The good news with this is that it should work fine with the Homeseer software assuming the computer module is also the same and that is very likely
My advise and I cant stress this enough is to just spend the money and buy the Homeseer software. The important thing in choosing your software is scalability and the community behind the software.
X10 is very old technology, Z-wave and Zigbee are better and much newer.

@Designandrew I don't believe voice recognition will go too far, people will get tired of talking, and want to just "press a button".

how can a computer control a light without you having to rewire your house or buy a special wi fi plug extension?
micheals1992 2 years ago
you have to change the siwtches to a wireless one that uses Zigbee instead of wifi

Running it all off of flash memory instead of a hard drive was a good move. I probably wouldn't have thought to consider that.
