  • I have the same problem on my brand new Dell Latitude E6520 purchased December 2011. So annoying!

  • yes i also resolve disabling usb hub

  • lol is taht an airport?

  • Yeah Sony VPC- F series have that. It happens only when computer is idle. (I open Firefox and then it becomes quiet).

  • This sound is normal ! Try to ear closely to each laptop & u will hear this sound (more or less)! My old lenovo makes this sound since the beginning (5 years ago) & he is still running & making this little sound (the mic output is amplified thats why the sound is louder on the video ... )! IMO just try to forget the sound .... peace !

  • I just got a Sony VPCF115FM. Does the same damn thing, but only when I'm not loading the system.

  • my eeepc 901 does the same.

  • This is happening on my acer travelmate 7511awsmi, i hope acer will repair it. anyone know what it actualy is yet?

  • And does your whine get louder when u disconnect the power plug?

  • O_O have yiu seen the 3 videos?

Obviously... NO. Whine is present with power connected and not

  • Mine gets a lot louder when i disconnect

  • mine too, i think it has to do with the power saving feature. i heard there was a way to shut off the powersave which made the wine go away, but the cons to that are obvyous.

  • I have the same problem. Is there any fix?

And does the Santa Rosa have it?

  • who cares. you got two lap tops now. as long as the work i would complain.

  • I have something similar on the M90, but its not as loud. Would this be considered a defect to call Dell and ask for a replacement?

  • However... i changed it with new D830.

It's a bomb... and have not WHINE ;)

  • The varying voltage changes to the components in the processor's power circuit are caused by a phenomenon referred to as the piezoelectric effect. When a specific varying voltage is applied to these components, they begin to resonate producing sounds that fall within the frequency range of human hearing (15 -- 20 KHz).

The level of the noise is within the acoustic specifications of the notebook and well below other noises from components such as the system fan and the hard disk drive.

  • The buzzing noise is apparent to some degree on all notebooks, but is perceived as abnormal because it is different from other more familiar noises generated by the notebook.

The noise has been isolated to the processor's power circuit and is only audible when the processor is in C3 (clock-stopped) power state. In C3 power state, notebook power is conserved resulting in reduced overall chassis heat and extended battery life

  • NO. Dell have specified reason:

» An audible high pitched buzzing noise is emitted from the notebook.

When the notebook is used in a quiet environment, an intermittent high frequency buzzing noise may be heard from the system. It appears to change with processor activity and can increase in amplitude if USB 1.0 peripherals are attached. It can also vary between platforms depending on the installed devices and system specifications.

  • Sounds Like interference coming through the speakers to me. I know you've pressed mute but that doesn't physically do anything, try plugging in headphones and see if the noise decreases?

  • my toshiba satellite A105-S4014 is doing this, but now that I see OTHERS have the same problem, it is driving me to the brink of insanity. At first I thought it was coming from other electronics...I swear at one time I thought I was going crazy I even googled "high pitched sound virus", as I wondered if the bloody noise was a dirty trick. google laptop beeping and follow the first thread to notebookreview.

however, I am too stupid to follow his directions...

  • It sounds like something similar to what happens to my Epox motherboard for my pc. The sound comes from a few components near the processor. They are round and have coils going around them, if I press an eraser from a pencil on them the noise stops.. I never really did anything from that point but I might put hot glue on top of them to see if it helps.

  • Does this happen to Dell M90 ?
