Test another small car from 1988 and you'll see the same or worse results. The 80's Ford Escort, Opel Kadett's, Fiats, Renaults, Golfs and such were made to be light and economical. In crashes they were bad.
You can't compare the safety of modern cars to cars from this era.
The Euro NCAP crash test is 64km/h and that's into an offset deformable barrier.
Try another car from the mid 80's (especially those having a similar size) and you'll see they will do equally bad and possibly worse in this 80km/h crash.
And how often do people crash doing 80km/h?? Usually people manage to break to around 50km/h before the impact (and that's from doing 110km/h on a highway).

This is not regular crash test ,any BMW from 80s would be same result in this test.

first of all it wasn't wall but lamp post...so it is much different than official crash test...
second-speed was 70km/h not 60 as in official crash tests
third-it was second hand car
