  • If I owned a tuning company I would #1: Stuff the 502 Fuel Injected Big Block under the hood. Or maybee the 572/converted to Fuel Injection. And #2: I would swap the stock axle ratio for the 4.56. Or maybe the 5.13. Oh what the heck! I'll just step it up to the 5.83! That would be the Ultimate Corvette! Then when it's done, I would have Top Gear test it. Oh well! If only in my dreams!

All you need to do is raise the final drive ratio to increase acceleration, and lower the ratio for 6 th gear to increase the Top Speed. You can even lower the ratios for every other gear wich will also raise the MPH for each of those gears. The possibilities are almost endless.

  • @extremedrivr Inceasing the RPM isn't something that should be done with stock springs. You'd have to do a lot of dropping in 6th gear to not only make up, but to surpass the top speed. Don't you think that when high performance cars like this go under gear tuning? It's probably best to leave it alone unless you add power.

I increased the RPM on my 4.3 Vortec V6 from 5500 to 6500 about ten years ago. It still has the stock springs, and there has not yet been a problem. Of course I only have about 250 Horsepower though.

  • When youre talking about top speed and acceleration gearing has everything to do with both. A high ration like 4.11 to 1 for final gear ratio will give a car very fast acceleration times, but a very low top speed depending on the number of gears in the gear box. A ratio of 2.73 to 1 will give very a car very "sluggish" acceleration, but will give you a higher top speed this is also dependent on the number of gears. So when comparing apples to oranges consider all the

  • @Ryosaeba24 please some one correct me if im wrong, but z06 has the same engine in it as a zr1 but its not made of aluminum and does not have a super in it stock. im not aware of any other differences

  • th z06 has a 7 liter v8 the zr1 has the 6.2 ls9 v8. the 7l engine couldnt support the turbine because of too thin walls of cylinder. thats where come from the other 138hp from the turbo charger that z06 doesnt have

  • Why is everyone bitching about 205mph top speed. Is that not fast enough? There aren't any race tracks that I am aware of where you need any more speed.     The Ferrari Enzo was driven by a racing professional, Marc Basseng.

    When the ZR1 was driven by a racing professional, Jan Magnussen. It actually turned in a time of 7:22.4.

    After the ZR1 set the record w/ 7:26.4 for a production vehicle w/ an engineer, the Italian's and Chrysler came to the track with professional drivers to try to one-up the ZR1.

  • Rumors don't have lap numbers. You can call Nüburgring yourself and ask about it. Its simply an unofficial track time because the car was not inspected. None the less it's an Official lap time For the ZR1. I guess when corvette kicked Ferraris ass at Lemmas that did not count 4 U either. Get over it. it got beat. Along with Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW, Maserati, Bugatti and a bunch of others. & BTW, I got news for you. Americas got another car that fucked them up called the "Viper"

  • If you take everything the Chevy Corvette ZR1 offers and compare it to the others such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche the ZR1 is flat out the best all around. There's no argument there. So yeah, the ZR1 is the "King Of All Supercars" as well as the "Best Bang For The Buck". For everything it's capable of it deserves both titles. Outstanding car all around.

I wouldnt take anything away from the ZR-1, but to me, when it comes to the ultimate supercar, the car that hands down out performs all others i cant give the Vette that credit. It doesnt deserve it, Chevrolet is doing something impressive no doubt, but there is a reason that drivers like Michael Schumacher and Mario Andretti drive and drove for Ferrari and not Chevy

  • I agree, i was never meaning to knock the car, this all started by someone crowning the ZR1 the King of All Supercars. It just isnt that at all.. Its not even a Supercar, its a muscle car. No argument can change that fact, the Veyron is the king, in performance, price, and wild styling. Thats what a Supercar is about. I am unbiased for the most part, though i tend to favor European engineering when you talk about a true "race" car. The ZR1 is a baaaadass car, no argument on that point.

  • A super car in most cases is a production car with great performance, great handling, and is pretty much any car that can do at least 200 mph and maintain reasonable control. The vette is a "muscle car", but the Vette has always been a "super car", just like the viper and the FordGT. Price has nothing to do with it. Price fits more in the "exotic" category.

  • not to be rude, but it has been against other super cars in a drag race. Search ZR1 Drag Race King. Its a race between GTR, Porsche GT2, and the Ferrari 599 (2nd fastest ferrari, right behind the enzo).

    The vette beats them all. The results come as

    2) 599

    3) GT2

    4) GTR

  • The ZR-1 does not have a bilstien suspension, it uses magnetorheological shocks from Michigan based Delphi. These same shocks happen to be used in several Ferraris. Try doing some research. Also, the rear brakes on the ZR-1 are the same as the front brakes on the Enzo and the Front ZR-1 brakes are shared with the Bugatti Veyron. These are supplied by Brembo.

  • And also don't forget that they also need to be geared to the torque curve of the engine. It might spin 7000RPM, but if peak torque is at 4000RPM, then it needs to have a lower gear set.

  • umm ya reason why speed doesnt increase with hp: speed increases with the square of air resistance. to go 3 times faster you need 9 times the power. zr1's the best car for the money.

  • Thats only half the story and thats only half correct.

    To attain a high speed the car has to be properly geared. You can have a 1000HP car, but if you got 26" tires, 4.10:1 rear, 1:1 final and 6K redline, top speed 115mph, thats it.

    Now you can have a 150hp car, but with a 2.73:1 rear and the "theoretical" top speed is 170mph.

    Look at those cars, they have so much more to offer, but are geared too high. Stick a 2.41:1 rear in the z06 and then see it's top speed (290mph theoretical speed) :p
