  • I had their songs on a cassette tape which the devils entered the field

  • Splendid sounds.....

  • There is a very serious and inexplicable problem with 14 people. Say, who are they? Are they from the netherworld where Satan rules? Are they zombies, the undead?

Have you seen any of them? Can they be seen at all? Do they have something called ears? Are there a canal and eardrums? Or, is it only a hole filled with dust and dirt?

No, all this cannot be possible at all. I would like to believe that they are just fooling the rest of us, just teasing us.....

  • wonderful .... Hank Marvin

    beautiful voice .... :)

  • wonderful..........bravoooooooooooo

  • I wonder how many 38 year old women count this as one of the greatest melodies of all time? Every time I hear it, it reminds me of my late Dad; It leaves me happy and sad, but mostly happy

  • @265Feral remindes me of my late father to he was big shadows fan and we had this played at his cremation

  • tout ma jeunesse

  • @jbiz2112 Forty-seven guitars in the house...and two out on loan!

  • @jbiz2112 ...Seymour Duncan APS-1’s and DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Series. On the Martins, I LURRRVE the MagMics.

  • @jbiz2112 Both made in USA, too...none of that Mexican junk in my collection!

  • @jbiz2112 My first was salmon pink...now I have a sunburst and a deep blue.

  • I like Mike Oldfield's version, but you've got to give most credit to the Shadows, after all they wrote it.

  • @simbalivesyt Nope; It was written by Jerry Lordan, who also wrote 'Apache'.

  • @jimincairns

Thanks for the info - I didn't realise.

Jerry Lordan must be happy when the royalties come rolling in!

  • @simbalivesyt : Alas not - he passed on in 1995. One can only hope Jet Harris and Tony Meehan have managed to locate him ....

  • Witaj Świetny zespół ,pozdrawiam:):):)

  • did hank b write this ??/saw him coming out of Abbey road @78,,,not a huge fan but he is a truely great player ...just hope some of those shredheads out there can see this and realise you dont have to play 4 notes ad nauseum at a 100mph to be a great player.

  • If only Jet Harris was there too.

  • @bloodnokian I agreed with you.I miss his presence in this historic event..He had gone forever.

Translate for English Thanks for the beautiful song. You all play well And most important, and that makes the difference is the maturity of age, that even more beautiful .. .. I thank God for being able to hear music played so well ..
  • Glad I managed to see them live. Only wish I realised how influential they were on other great guitarists - Knopffler, Clapton, Pink Floyd - before I saw them!

  • Fan des Shadows , depuis 1959 et pour toujour . quand j'ai des problémes , j'écoute les SADOWS , et la vie va mieux . essayé vous verrez !

  • This is like Dick Dale prozac. NICE!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the post. This is first that I have heard of them.

  • i like the shadows but i wouldnt want to sit through a whole concert full of the same old dull tunes over and over again

  • Quite agree....the best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @DJCRYSTALBASS Yeah and what's your skill buddy being a hater or just being educated at being uneducated?

  • When I read comments like "best ever" "no contest" etc. etc.

I just shake my head. Sure they're great, but so are tons of groups.

Must not have heard them. Lighten up.....enjoy.

  • Absolutely the best band that ever graced this planet.... No contest, no arguement

  • @mrbillhicks i agree 100% with you.The shadows are the best.

  • Letkeää kitarointia

  • Hank Marvin = Tone machine

  • yep lets not mention how lucky they are to have fkin awsome the backing ... this bunch of standard musicians would be fk all, without the multitude of no ones who give them the fkin electric they need to start with.... all the way up to the magnificent sound engineers who actualy ubderstand how you bunch of wankers hear the music perfectly throughout the venues, be it small club room or stadium.. dick heads! everyone has a skill!

  • @DJCRYSTALBASS

I always feel very sorry for someone who cant express themselves without resulting to swearing on a public media, get a life, enjoy the music, or tune to another channel.

Regards Mike(one of the 20 million no ones who purchased there music over 50 years)

  • I had the guitar that Hank is playing in this clip in my hands yesterday, it belongs to a friend who played this tune on it!!

  • this kind of group comes only once in a hundred years..thanks Shadows, for the memories

  • best The Shadows...Cem-Turkey

  • What a great tune! So, 60's, so British! (BTW, I'm a Yank who grew up on The Ventures).

  • Hank B. Marvin; the sole reason why thousands upon thousands of red Stratocasters have been sold since 1960!

  • @jimincairns

yeah, later on maybe, but the big reason fender got a surge of popularity in 63 were the beach boys, Carls Fender Jaguar, Alans Fender Stratocester and Brian Wilsons Fender Precision Bass all in Olympic white made fender what they are today.

That's the reason why they were the first band to be inducted into the Fender hall of fame.

  • @OropherThranduil In recognition for forty years of dedication to his craft, Fender issued a VERY limited edition Hank B. Marvin Stratocasters '1958-1998'.

    .penumbra.co.nz/40anniv.html

  • @jimincairns

i know, but there#s also an alan jardine stratocester model.

  • @jimincairns

    Absolutely. King of tone.

Too bad he's not recognized in America for the pioneer and influence that he is.

Unbelievable that The Shadows are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • One of my fav Shadows tracks!

    wwwasjmusiccouk don't forget the dots!

  • One of my fav Shadows tracks!

    wwwasjmusiccouk

  • I WAS THERE!

  • @seanvarndell Awesome!

  • simply the best and never forgotten, the instrumental group of all times

  • Thanks Hank .... The Best Guitar Player Ever !

  • Dislikes are caused by misunderstanding and ignorance

  • Love it !!

  • this is just awesome!!!!!!!! hank marvin is like one of the top five guitarists of all time............

  • they're truly enjoying!

  • The Chorus is so whaaaaaaaaaaaa :)

  • The GOVERNOR - simple as that!

  • i am sure hank himself is humble enough to never think he is the best.......

  • Great sound!

  • This is a really good band.

  • Wonderful Land THE SHADOWMEN Good new version

  • well i guess he`s one of the greatest and most and inspireing guitarist of all time after all =)

  • Immaculate

  • PS I love your comment Breezebro... And they are!

  • i grew up with shad music had the opp. to stand beside hank in 1963 in bristol while he signed autographs at the coulston hall as i remember that gig was poorly att. O O cliff was there too neely forgot. hank will always be here.

  • Beautiful tone and melody! Reminds me how great it was to be a kid in the '60s - can't see the same innocence in the little shits on street corners today!

  • @wdettn agree with all you say, but there have always been nasty kids lurking around somewhere...

  • Mais c'est génial. j'ai beaucoup les guitare et la c'est formidable.

    Bravos

  • I can't resist to turn the volume up since my child hood when I hear this track ,a master piece :}

  • This proves why rythm guitarists are taht important.Believe me,they allow the soloist to perform.

    rock on!

  • hank is great but if you wanna see the king on a strat then see dick dale of SRV.

  • @ivymercer ever hear the saying " Jimi Hendrix The Master of The Stratocaster ". Jimi Hendrix is without the most famous and master of using a Fender Strat.

  • @ivymercer ...and he's better than him, and he's better than him,...... it goes on and on. Why post comparisons? Makes no sense.

  • Pay attention to that fabulous coreography during the performance.

  • Its understandable with a guitar great like Hank fronting a band that we dont notice anyone else, but I think Bruce (Welch)deserves a cheer for making the whole effect so good. He is a great player in his own right, and deserves more recognition. Good on ya too Bruce.

  • This song is so easy to play that you cant believe it. The best gitar player of all time?? sceptic

  • @badefett Make music is not to only play note after note, which can be, in fact, easy; is to transmit feelings and emotions with your playing and that's not easy at all. I think that Marvin's ability to do that is what makes him great.

  • @badefett

When are you down loading your version, love to hear it.

  • i am 59 yo,and believe-heard and watched so many bands,arusua-no one could compare to Rhe Shadows!!!!!!!!

  • The Shadows, the soundtrack of my life

  • I have jus tbought this DVD and it is an absolute masterclass in tone, phrasing and unparralled melodic prowess, highly recommended indeed for Shadows fans and anyone guitarist with a modicum of taste!

  • bellissimo

  • This track is orgasm man! What melody... don't it take you gliding back forty odd years?

  • Yes he is British born but now lives in Perth Western Australia... Has done for many years...Emigrated to Australia in 1986 and still lives there!!!!

My comments were that we are proud to have him as an Aussie ( An adopted Aussie I meant ). Hope that clears things up.

  • Hank you are the greatest and let there not be said any different...Great to have you as an Aussie!!!!!

  • @fourplus100 He's not and aussie he's a British

  • Gotta enjoy it !!

  • Advertising is needed to support programs but it killed this video.

  • Hank should have replaced Hackett in genesis and been allowed to "go for it "

  • Good job starting the song zoomed out like 1,000 miles away.

  • Excellent!

  • Hank Marvin must be one of the worlds greatest guitarists

  • Great one and only - Hank B. Marvin

  • Wasnt the exact 'Final' Tour was it? The one with Cliff Richard is The Final Tour

  • @RJFSHADOWSMUSIC i agree i saw the shadows and cliff 2009 i malmo

  • the key is Tape Echo, with the reverb and tremblo, I think... Im not expert in the terms but I have the sound, and I love trying to play these tunes :P

  • this reminds me of the game "worms" for soem reason.

  • Hank rules!

  • He just gets it right, wonderful !!

  • I have seen the SHADOWS live 5 times at different stages of there career.

    they really are the best.

how does HANK get that sound. . just an awesome guitarist and they are all brilliant musicians

  • thank you share ....

  • does anyone knows wich effect he uses on his guitar???

  • Well, I came up with a sound on my pedal that, by accident, sounded fairly Shadowy. It's not an exact replica of Hank's tone, but it's a good starting point. I had a bit of reverb on it, and turned the mid to about half, the treble to full and bass down to very low. I had a very, very minimal amount of overdrive on there which doesn't sound Shadowy, but gives it an edge. I doubt that helped, but hey.

  • @MATHIJSIE666 He uses spring revrb and delay, and Vox ac30 amps, classic awesome tone, teh fender stratocaster is also a part of his sound

  • Mayak wrote: He uses spring revrb and delay, and Vox ac30 amps, classic awesome tone, teh fender stratocaster is also a part of his sound

The only part correct is the Fender Strat, the amp he is using in this clip is a KCP. He used various echo machines; Meazzi, Binson, Roland, Alesis etc. to the most recent TVS 3

His sound wan't reliant on the Strat either until it was stolen in early 70s he used a Burns guitar, which he helped design, he then reverted to the Strat

  • @DelTangBrav His original Strat is now in the ownership of Bruce Welch.

I have heard he has refused offers in XS of half a million sterling for it.

  • @MATHIJSIE666 none :) look at bridge ;p

  • The best, there is, the best there ever was, the best there will ever be,

    The Shadows.

  • @mdjdecorations You are spot on!

  • @mdjdecorations Bret the hit-man Hart :)

  • @mdjdecorations Bret Hart fan?

  • I saw them with cliff in cologne !!!

    Only one word: GREAT

  • fantastic performance as ever. where was this recorded?

  • @Jonathanm178 In Cardiff

  • How.s about that for british talent, they are still going strong today, Hank Marvin sure knows how to play that Guitar he is a master.....brill......!!!!!

  • One of the several great things about The Shadows is that althouhgh this was like the 739th time they play the song they still seemingly enjoy playing it.

  • The best Group of Intrumental Music ever

  • My Heros of this Music

  • Lol, is it that bad? I love the Shadows; they are the best.

  • I love guitar sound - and the shadows are the best for ever!!!

  • It doesn't get any better than this !!

  • A very musical and tuneful style of playing - before the blues influenced stuff from later guitarists. Interesting contrast of approaches.

  • This Is my alltime Favorite Shadows tune. It moved me the first time I heard as 13 year old , and since then The Shadows Was my thing. Jerry Lordans best and most wonderful tune. This is majestic and Unique Like The Shadows themself.

  • Quite right. This particular tune and performance made me a Shadows fan forever - since 1962. I was 17 then...

  • Don't forget these guys were at #1 for over 8 weeks with this absolute classic - brilliant stuff

  • Just got back from their 02 Arena concert with Cliff. They are STIll as AWESOME as ever, if not even better. Absolutelly brilliant!

  • yes I agree with tigerboytony, a box set would be a winner, and with repect to jsslkdfldskjfsd's comment, written by the hand of an obvious looser and musical deralict who wouldnt even be capable of blowing a swanny whistle.

  • One of the Greats !!

  • Does anyone agree with me, that The Shadows songs should be released as a version of Guitar Hero like The Beatles?

  • would be nice but who would be buying it since 75% of their listeners are a little to old for video games:p

  • deffinatly! Its crying out for them to do it!

  • Yes I totally agree.

The guys who started rock n roll in the UK deserve an own Guitar Hero game.

The Beatles were good musicians and superb writers, but musically none of them had the talent Hank Marvin has.

Hank Marvin, the true pioneer of British rock music.

  • Hank Marvin's a legend!! Don't ever talk shit on him!

  • HANK MARVIN has just been voted amoung other guitar great gutar players in the guitar magazine and hes amoung the best ever.

the poll was compiled by the guitar magazine and all the greats gave an opinion . HANKS the man

  • Dont disrespect the worlds greatest guitarist you dont understand music without these guys you would still be listening to the World service on the BBC im the 1940s You Muppet

  • PiperTheGreatX......... such a small word in your comment says so much about you, i noticed you have mastered the guitar at the same level as the English language.

  • How can people come on here and slag off Hank Marvin if you don't like it don't watch the clip or post a coment simple.

He was an innovator and inspirational to many top guitarists show some respect or shut up.

  • 85362 reproducciones

  • hank is the real guitar hero.

  • No one can make his guitar sing like hank marvin!

  • nick off,, hank taught everyone, umm nuffsaid

  • Only idiots commenting in that way.

  • Mark Knopfler is the first to admit Hank was an early inspiration of his, as he was for most of us!

  • I think knopfler is better, Hank aint an idiot though hes still up there along side gilmour, jummiy page etc.

  • @aerospartacus BOLLOCKS

  • Hank is the best guitar player in the world no contest

  • Paul gilbert?

  • haha bollocks i saw gilbert live he was crap hank marvin is the best

  • è vero!!

  • @clarke121280 Just try Chet Atkins

  • @johndeaconisahero chet atkins is not a patch on Hank Marvin. Neither has Chet been an inspiration to budding guitarists and many famous ones as Hank has.

  • @tonylast47 That's not what I mean, you said that Hank is the best guitar player, I wanted to say that Chet is maybe better, even if I think that no one is better than no one. Each guitarist is the best at what he does, for example you can't copy Clapton, he has something that makes him stand apart of other guitarists. Hank is like that too. Eric Johnson, Chet also are.

  • Really enjoyed finding this clip,I built a fiesta red Strat after watching this.Thank you for posting music from a simpler time!

  • Proof again that tone and melody matter more in the long run that sheer speed and technical virtuosity. There's a difference between connecting with your audience and just impressing them. Just ask David Gilmour.

  • True.

  • @ericy , not totally true, you are right 100%

  • @ericynot Indeed. Added to Dave Gilmour would be Syd Barrett.

  • @ericynot -rite on buddy
