  • And this is why ppl have accidents... because they drive flatout, in the rain, holding a video camera...

  • Yeah, that's kinda messed up. Somehow it's just the same here, only we pay for engine ccm, not for horsepower.

  • The 1.9l 130hp dci engine's been imposed everywhere. You can't find it in lower hp modes anywhere starting early 2007 I think. The tax is usually paid for the engine capacity, not horsepower. Anyway, I don't think they changed anything in the 130hp engine besides the chip being modded. I mean, what could you change in an engine for 15 more hp? So I guess, let's say, modding my engine towards 130hp should be perfectly safe even if I rev a lot, right?

  • Yes, the tuning is depending on your motor's code, it can be different for some countries.

In Belgium you pay tax when you buy your car, and it's about € 230 for a 85kW motor, but for a 86kW you pay € 460 tax, that's double just for that 1kW! So it is interesting to buy a 85kW engine, and to let your chip modified to 100+ kW.

  • I've got a Megane Bicorp 1.9 dci 6 speed manual. Are you telling me that if I test it it'll come out with more than 115 hp?:)

  • Before tuning it was 115hp, afterwards it came out with 153hp. But the measurement of an automatic gearbox (gearbox loss) is not as correct as a measurement of a manual gearbox (at least on the dyno where I let it tested). So be sure that after tuning you will get 150hp.

  • Got it, thanks:). But I love the car as it is (for now). Goes fast enough as it is:)

  • Yes, but you have the Hatchback-version, think it's weight is a bit less than the Grand Tour. What can you tell me about the consumption? Mine had in summer (with normal temperatures) an avarage of 7,3l/100km, but now in winter (temperatures of -5 to -10°C) it consumes up to an average of 8,6 l/100km.

  • Mine weighs around 1300kg, the Grand Tour version can't weigh much more than that. Right now I'm having a combined fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km and I've mostly driven around town. Temperatures are around -5 degrees celsius at all times. Last summer the average was down at 6.6l/100km at normal temperatures. Of course, yours is chiptuned, so it's normal to eat more fuel. And I think the automatic gearbox is also a dent in the average consumption?

  • Well, that's not correct about the consumption being higher because of the modification of the chip. It actually consumed more before the tuning, because that was the main reason for letting it chiptuned. I brought down the consumption with 0,6l, before the tuning it was actually higher.

  • Right, because the engine doesn't need to stress itself as much as before the chiptuning in the same conditions, got it, but it's got to have disadvantages, higher pressures in the engine, turbocharger and all that.

  • That can be, I'm sure of it, but otherwise I've heard some car constructor build an exact same engine with different horsepower and limit the horsepower only by a chip. And for Renault the 1,9l dCi is available in different countries from 105hp to 130hp (depending for the taxes). So I'm told. And if you don't use your extra horsepower continuously, I don't think you damage the engine, and you can only take advantage of the lower fuel consumption.

  • Nice video! I'm contemplating making the Megane diesel my next car.

  • In the meanwhile I let it chiptuned to 150hp, with automatic transmission it's suberb!

  • 150hp with just a chip tuning? That sounds great. I think I've made my choice.

  • Yes, I had my car tested and came out with 128 horsepower (measured on wheels) and the loss of gearbox was 25 hp. So the motorpower was actually 153hp.

  • Very good. I am thinking about getting the 130 kombi manual transmisson version. About how much euro did you pay for the chip tuning?

  • I paid 500 euro, that's about $ 630. I have 2 years extra warranty (plus Renault Factory Warranty) on the motor and drivetrain. So it was a great deal.

  • LOOKS LIKE YOU SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY ON YOUR VIDEO CAMERA

AND DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH LEFT TO BUY A PROPER CAR !

    WASN'T EVEN WORTH FILMING PAL

IT WOULDN'T PULL THE SKIN OFF RICE PUDDING ! FILM AN M5 !! Cropsta......

  • Yeah, allright, you have the fastest car! M5 rules and Renault isn't even a car, I know.

    greetz

  • I liked your answer, really classy. I'm glad u filmed it, i'm giving it 5 stars;)

  • In the middle of the acceleration I needed to slow down a bit because of a suspicious parked car on the sideway. I didn't want to pay a fine or return my driver's license!
