Except for New York City & LA who had well developed cable & mani mini stations,in 1968 you were lucky to have 2 or 3 channels without cable. There was less jumping around at commercial break. It was a knowwn fact for years that Alka Seltzer & Volksvagen mini cars had amazingly funny ads. They were worth rewatching.I would have put this also my number two fav with a volksvagen ad as no.1.Since 1970 I haven't watched tv!!!!
@McSpizzy You wanna know what I hate? when A fuckin pussy comes into a random convo, he's not italian, he changed his profile to look like he is because I was making fun of him, he started shit, now take your nose outta here, it's not an insult, you might of tooken it as one, by the looks of your channel your another gawd damn nerd, now fuck you, and him, faggot.
@McSpizzy well him, for randomly posting on my other channel and talking shit, and blocking me, and calling me a pussy, and you for butting in and calling me retarded. now.
This is one of those commercials that set trends. Innovative for its time, then played out over and over again across the years. People see it now without the context of its time and just remember the thousands of commercials that came afterward, leaving them unimpressed.
Think of special effects in movies and how a 5/10/15+ year old blockbuster looks trite and cheap when seen after the newer stuff.
Lovely ad! But the one I'd most like to see again is the 1990s British commercial with two men in a lifeboat, starving. Then the camera pans around the empty sea. Then back, and there's only one guy, and the caption reads: "Alka Seltzer. When you've eaten something you shouldn't have." So funny!
It was shown during late 1970. I was a foreign exchange student in the US then and I used to watch TV just to catch this commercial. I have never forgotten it's catchphrase even though it is 40 years since I watched it. That's probably why it is one of the best commercials ever made.
It was eventually taken off the air after complaints from the American Italian community.
@ingletonman Even back then they had all these idiotic groups getting "offended" about everything. Are they the same group of troublemakers who made such a stink when the movie "The Godfather" came out too?
@jln55 It's the late veteran character Jack Somack. He played a recurring role on "Barney Miller" as a business owner whose shop was near the station. Jack was in many commercials and TV shows from the 1960s through the early '80s.
U R dreaming! How did I know where to find this after 40 years? My father would almost burst veins every time he saw this."Alka Seltzer" had some funny ones in the 60's,"Volkswagen"(Beetle)even funnier.! had an archeologist digging an ancient Egyptian tomb & out of many feet deep drives anVolkswagen car (always runs).
Even many years later, people remember the Spicy Meatball commercial. It was a true classic. TV ads these days just don't have the same pizazz, do they? Thanks for posting.

Does anyone have The Alka Seltzer tv plug where the guy in the restaurant says"Try It! You'll like it!"?

The trend in the 1970s was "surprise" commercials. You THINK this is an ad for pasta sause, until ...
Very clever though.
