  • people in the store"oh shit an elephant....are the grapes half off?"

  • Except for New York City & LA who had well developed cable & mani mini stations,in 1968 you were lucky to have 2 or 3 channels without cable. There was less jumping around at commercial break. It was a knowwn fact for years that Alka Seltzer & Volksvagen mini cars had amazingly funny ads. They were worth rewatching.I would have put this also my number two fav with a volksvagen ad as no.1.Since 1970 I haven't watched tv!!!!

  • lol so this kind of humor is older than we all thought.... hehe.... D=

  • Is... is that Rod Serling's VO?

  • Cracked?

  • I'm Italian and I love this - oh and cracked.com rules......

  • @darkkramer666 shut your faggot mouth, no one likes japs, pussy. Go play video games.

  • @Wilboki awwww still mad that I smoked your ass in Black Ops? Go cry in a corner bitch. hahhahhha

  • @Wilboki Are you a retard? He said Italian, not Japanese. And how the fuck is 'go play video games' an insult?

  • @McSpizzy You wanna know what I hate? when A fuckin pussy comes into a random convo, he's not italian, he changed his profile to look like he is because I was making fun of him, he started shit, now take your nose outta here, it's not an insult, you might of tooken it as one, by the looks of your channel your another gawd damn nerd, now fuck you, and him, faggot.

  • @Wilboki If it's not an insult then why did you call me a faggot? Why the fuck are you so mad at him AND me?

  • @McSpizzy well him, for randomly posting on my other channel and talking shit, and blocking me, and calling me a pussy, and you for butting in and calling me retarded. now.

  • @Wilboki In that case, I take back what I said. Sorry.

  • This is actually pretty funny.

  • How the hell is this racist?

  • @fubukifangirl Just a bunch of liberal geeks who try their best to cause controversy... those guys are a dime a dozen these days.

  • cracked.com

  • I bet he could use some Vitameatavegamin.

  • This is one of those commercials that set trends. Innovative for its time, then played out over and over again across the years. People see it now without the context of its time and just remember the thousands of commercials that came afterward, leaving them unimpressed.

Think of special effects in movies and how a 5/10/15+ year old blockbuster looks trite and cheap when seen after the newer stuff.

  • Does anyone have The Alka Seltzer tv plug where the guy in the restaurant says"Try It! You'll like it!"?

  • The trend in the 1970s was "surprise" commercials. You THINK this is an ad for pasta sause, until ...

    Very clever though.

  • Could you imagine Chico Marx doing this commercial?

  • this is hilarious!

  • The opening moments are missing as well:

JACK: "Mamma mia! That's-a some speec..."

    DIRECTOR: "Cut! 'SPICY meatball', Jack--"

  • This was the commercial the Mafia banned...through the Joe Colombo family.

  • That's Danny Elfman's dad!

  • Lovely ad! But the one I'd most like to see again is the 1990s British commercial with two men in a lifeboat, starving. Then the camera pans around the empty sea. Then back, and there's only one guy, and the caption reads: "Alka Seltzer. When you've eaten something you shouldn't have." So funny!

  • @akooshla where can i find this commercial you are talking about? i can't seem to find it!

  • SOOOOOOOOOO FUUUCKN FUUUUUUUUUNYYYYYYYY

  • Alka seltzer will not only get rid of your stomache aches but will also make you throw up and have a bitter taste of piss in your mouth for hours.

  • My Dad used to crack-up on this one when I was a boy...and it makes me LMAO even now....when TV was just that...television.

  • Honestly, I thought that this commercial was banned because people thought this was a meatball commercial instead of an Alka Seltzer commercial.

  • @MrKilroy138 LOL!

  • @TeamEdward1976 Honstly. I saw a video like this one but it had a "banned" in the title.

  • Sorry, but this does nothing for me. Never the best or even second best advert made. (just my opinion of course)

  • This is a funny commercial. I wish that they would bring back alkaSeltzer commercials like this one and Speedy!

  • the woman is Fran Lopate, Leonard Lopate's (of NPR) Mom.

  • It was shown during late 1970. I was a foreign exchange student in the US then and I used to watch TV just to catch this commercial. I have never forgotten it's catchphrase even though it is 40 years since I watched it. That's probably why it is one of the best commercials ever made.

It was eventually taken off the air after complaints from the American Italian community.

  • @ingletonman Even back then they had all these idiotic groups getting "offended" about everything. Are they the same group of troublemakers who made such a stink when the movie "The Godfather" came out too?

  • I think its the BEST ever...

  • I remember this, but what year is it from?

  • One of the all time greats! Looks like Abe Vigoda.

  • @jln55 It's the late veteran character Jack Somack. He played a recurring role on "Barney Miller" as a business owner whose shop was near the station. Jack was in many commercials and TV shows from the 1960s through the early '80s.

  • Great commercial

  • Super Mario would say "Maama mia Tads a spicy Meateball"

  • Great video, except for the very end which unfortunately is cut off. The director of the commercial says, hilariously, OK, let's break for lunch!

  • I AM LAUGHING SO HARD, TEARS ARE IN MY EYES!!! TY for the post!!!

  • @SHADOWBOXERBAYBEE i remember seeing this as a child. wow, what a flashback.

  • LOL @ 0:14

  • @funkmike

    That's a VERY spicy meatball.

  • @Dristarg yeah, blew the door right off the stove.

  • Many people remember this comercial, but a lot of people have forgotten what it was really for and think it's a comercial for a food dish!

    I remember other take-offs:

"Ach Der Lieber!Dat's one fine Bavarian Beer!"

"Ah Carumba, that's a tasty hot tamale!"

"Sacre Blieu! Those are good french friend onion rings!"

  • U R dreaming! How did I know where to find this after 40 years? My father would almost burst veins every time he saw this."Alka Seltzer" had some funny ones in the 60's,"Volkswagen"(Beetle)even funnier.! had an archeologist digging an ancient Egyptian tomb & out of many feet deep drives anVolkswagen car (always runs).

  • mia del mamma che è una polpetta piccante

  • this commercial was remade like 2 years ago in sweden XD

  • I still eat some spicy food and say that line!

  • You idiot!!!!!! Mario wasn't around yet!!!!!!!

  • Mama mia! thats a meme from the sixtiesah.

  • Lol@ "Unstuff" you.... i don't believe that's in the English dictionary

  • I REMEMBER THIS COMMERCIAL !

    I was seven or so

  • A great commercial! Ora isa thata...never mind, good grief this is one fun commercial! And also spicy beyond our wildest dreams.

  • Is that guy Danny Elfman's father?

  • Yes, I think it might be. But his father was in the 1976 commercial.

  • is the woman Al from Happy Days?

  • Maybe.

  • @testodude I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that's who she looked like!

  • @testodude LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

  • Just found out that the woman in the commercial is WNPR's Leonard Lopate's mother.

  • Not to split hairs but Leonard broadcasts and is affiliated with WNYC, however he is also affiliated with PRI.

  • LMAO! This is awesome xD

  • This commercial aired in the late 60's.

  • What year is this?

  • 1969

For whatever reason TV guide called this the second best commercial ever

  • @Blossomadorable

    Yeah they're stupid

  • marone!!

  • Comment removed

  • Sadly the last word was cut short. The director said "OK, lets break for LUNCH!"

  • reminds me of Luigi from Super Mario Bros hahah Mama mia!

Luigi: i hope these some Speghatti!

  • He does sort of look like Luigi. I wonder if he can get coins by bumping his head?

  • he looks mor like waluigi

  • Bernbach!

  • Doyle Dane!

  • Even many years later, people remember the Spicy Meatball commercial. It was a true classic. TV ads these days just don't have the same pizazz, do they? Thanks for posting.

  • spicy meatball(a)

  • 0:44

  • 0:43 is where he says it proper

  • What memories!

    A classic.

Even the closing line, "Ok, let's break for lunch!"

  • I read recently, that this is considered the best commercial of TV's first 50 years. I can believe it.

  • Jack Somack plays the italian husband..

Ron Graham is the production asistant in this

    classic Alka Seltzer tv plug.

  • I already know you like ths commercial. But i bet you haven't seen it in a while. Mama Mia!!!

  • a teacher at my school made that comercial

  • cool.
