was the top story of 1948.

@robertmcmc Well seeing as this is a British newsreel from 1948, this could probably be explained because of the resentment felt towards the Jewish insurgent groups that had targeted the British in Palestine throughout the 40's.

In 2009 in my opinion the biggest story of the world in which almost all media outlets neglect to speak of is the Israeli militaries acknowledgment that they did indeed harvest organs from the dead. Shame on AOL and Yahoo and all the other media outlets that serve Israel bc the injustice the Palestinians face daily is in some ways similar to the evil that was served to Jews daily.

In Prime Minister Chamberlain's announcement the war was to start at 11.00am on 3 September 1939.

Rationing of food and clothes, poor wages, high taxes, compulsory military service - THIS was Britain in 1948. The social condition was worse than during the years of war. The British Empire was being dismantled but control over countries retained through the banking and trading system. And Britain was paying back the huge debt incurred to the U.S. for the 1939-45 war which Britain had started.
The newsreel's triumphant tone is good propaganda, but bad social history.
And people forget...
