I was 14 years old and trying to find a musical soul.Dire Straits provided it but,I have to say there later stuff just became to commercial for me :-(
If you're gonna post the lyrics, the least you could do is not change and abridge them. "YES I need a little water of love", "now my woman SHE gone", BUT THERE AINT no water here to be found"... ANNOYING.
I was 36 when I heard this song and it came out allegedly in 1977 when I graduated from high school in the deep south...it reminds me of my crazy childhood...
Dire Straits' Water of Love is the best?...That's not a clain I'd make....I've always loved the song, since I bought the album way back a few Centuries ago....All their albums have some kick shit on 'em...Trust the Maharishi of Music.
I grew up with this album (through my parents god bless 'em). I still love it 30 years on. Thank you for uploading. It brings back so many happy memories
I was eighteen when i bought this on vinyl many many moons ago, thought i had discovered the album of the century, looking back i realise we all had ! will never tire of it's dulcit tones, just makes me feel wonderful in a way i can't describe..........
@thallow117: I agree with you, thallow, that the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts, and it comes off sounding pretty darn good in the end. Mark Knopfler would probably be the first person to admit something like: yeah, I can sing in tune; about an 8 note range on a GOOD day! But the sound of his voice has a real presence. Texture. I like the singers you likened him to and would add Lou Reed on certain songs to that list. Also, I meant "I just USE me own bare 'ands!"
@nipika0080 And I wonder why today's generation can't type words properly. dys, lyk, dat, and many such replacements just shows how stupid people are who think that spelling that way makes them appear cool. Uggghhhh!
@dansteely77 yeah, but the voice fits the style. somehow like jj cale, tom petty or even henry rollins in their habitats; not really 'singers' but touching. dunno.
This cassette was worn out on my commutes back and forth to college in the 80's. Yes, I still have the old Bronco. The tape deck took a ride to the dumpster about a month ago.
@Dano407 I have had this album in several media cassette CD now Youtube and it's still one of the top. Knopfler is timeless . Been fun watching him mature. He is still awesome. a true artist. and let me guess...you were doin about 85 mph when Sultans of Swing was over. LOL
i have ..about a hundred cd collection, and this album tops them all, just a little upset of my copy bec. of sultans of swing version, they cut the end part, shit! it was the part...just like what the radio play, by the way it's made in korea, korean sucks!
A VERY Rare Gem...not To say That Most of the Straits Music Isn't...But This one Is right up there With "Sultans","calling Elvis","Romeo an Juliet"..Etc.
