I currently drive an 04 SRT-4 and I'm looking for RWD and more cylinders, which puts both these cars squarely in my crosshairs. Thing is, I'm a few months away from turning 30 and I'm tired of the hard-edged nature of the SRT. The fact that the Camaro is a bigger, softer GT rather than a full-on sports car is beginning to sound really appealing in a daily-driver. I'm willing to give up a couple of tenths for that.
Hyundai used to make entry level cheap, pretty shitty looking cars with warranties of 5years-8years. They at least had the confidence with their engineering. Nowadays, hyundai cars are starting to have better designs, market leading performance in the class and great fuel efficiency.

I'm a camaro guy from way back. I've driven both thse cars. I would buy the genesis. The camaro feels cheap inside, the "paddle" shifters (fake, actually buttons behind the steering wheel) sucks (your hands are always in the wrong place. The windows are too high. I really wanted to like the camaro because I wanted to buy one, and I would have, until I drove it.
base camaro..all it needs is good tires and some better rear end gears and it would winn every test..headers does wounders for the little v6..ive seen alot 35 hp gains from that swap..the stock manifolds are a joke lol..and this is hyundi's best car they build vs the base camaro ..funny the camaro with singal piston caliper and all season skinny tires..stopped shorter the the brembo and sticky wide tire hyundai..

@TheDubeo I'm not a fan of either of the two, neither have much interest in the test results. I just only say that friction with the same Mu, wide tires can traction as much as narrower ones, since they would have more weight per unit of surface. That as long as the surface itself doesn't stand the traction, like on dirt, in which case the static Mu would change into dynamic Mu, causing less friction. Sorry for my English if I misspelled anything.

@TheDubeo True but on a track with repeated hard stops from high speeds the brembos on the genesis begin to shine. The Genesis may not stop 60-0 as short but trust me at higher speeds and repeated hard stops and those brembos will work their magic, plus they will not have brake fade like the camaro's brakes would in the same circumstances. I liked the camaro until I saw the cheap, poorly made interior I have driven both and the genesis drives better with a much higher quality interior
@AltaRepublic the genesis coupe has yet to fail me in that aspect. So many more people own the Camaro you see them everyday. On the other hand, a Genesis Coupe with a few mods will really stand out. I live overseas and shipped a gencoupe from the states to europe before euro dealers started selling it, and you wouldn't believe how many heads my genesis coupe turned (in both italy and germany). I like both cars but I prefer the agility of the genesis.

One of the few exceptions I would make when buying a car for pure style (the Camaro) over other potentially better cars (ex:Genesis) I would get a base V6/5spd like this one, forget the V8 crap.
Strap a nice, clean single turbo on the V6 and shed a couple of pounds here and there, upgrade the suspension and it's more than enough car while still getting great mileage as well.

Yes but the Camaro chassis is heavy anyway so competing with the 370z, genesis etc is pointless. American cars haven't had the best handling over the years but they have packed some serious muscle. That's what the Camaro is, a muscle car and no matter how many HP a V6 has its not a muscle car. There's that charisma about the V8 roar, the whole experience. If I wanted a screaming 6 I'd take the E46 I6 M3. The V6 Camaro has NOTHING on the M3. Stick with the V8s I say, the V6 is a waste.

@flight909090 actually Hyundai did make bad cars. The Hyundai Excel was a very unreliable car. Once they re-engineered and improved their line with the Elantra, Sonata and other models AND added the 10-year power train warranty they were able to over come those early problems. There are other reasons for their success, even supposedly their name is similar to Honda! Allowing some confusion for certain buyers! Believe it if you want. I heard this from a professor.

Yes, there are some autos that are faster than manuals, but all manuals with a good driver will beat most auto trannys 9 times out of 10. And you aren't driving if you have an auto, you're a passenger that can turn the car.
I never compared super-car transmission to normal manuals. Just used it as an example of how the world has changed.
9/10 A good driver with a manual car will probably be faster around a track. BUT a high-tech auto will always win in a straight line.
You still drive when you use an autobox. You still steer, you still have a foot on the accelerator and control over the brakes. Moving a lever around won't make the car go.

I have driven performance cars going back to the late 60s vintage. Some people can't handle larger cars such as my niece. Thats why she preferred a smaller less intimidating car. She has been driving maybe 3 years. Some are intimidated and are just afraid of driving a larger heavier road car, but I find that mostly with women. A lot of the Tuner crowd who like Civics seem to also be intimidated with a heavy car. You seem to fall into that category. So its really not the car, its about you.

it just depends on what u do wit ur car!! no one would ever take a camero to the track or autocross. it's only for straight line. that is why it lose in the twisty roads. they r just much slower in the turns no matter how good u drive. muscles cars r build for US cause it's mainly straight roads. europe and asian have the smaller lighter cars for their roads.

I think its about end results. No one cares where you come from its about the product and right now America has the best dollar for dollar product. Zora Duntov helped design some of the older corvettes, he was a Russian Immigrant. And Japanese car owners have been talking smack for years because it was Chic to own something foreign. The cars were small and got great gas mileage, now they are just small and get no better mileage then a larger car like the Camaro or Mustang. So whats the point.

@bigphat200 I've been burned my Buick and Pontiac. I've got a love for Camaros though. I've had my 1980 Z28 since I was 15. It's been the longest lasting car our family has owned. I waited till '11 to order my Camaro, though, because I was weary about reliability. Consumer Reports has rated the 2010 model highly, so I think it'll turn out well. I also think Hyundai has built a great reputation over the past decade, and they are priced well--I just think the V6 Camaro is a steal as well.

The Genesis may not stop 60-0 as short but trust me at higher speeds and repeated hard stops and those brembos will work their magic, plus they will not have brake fade like the camaro's brakes would in the same circumstances. I liked the camaro until I saw the cheap, poorly made interior I have driven both and the genesis drives better with a much higher quality interior

@AltaRepublic the genesis coupe has yet to fail me in that aspect. So many more people own the Camaro you see them everyday. On the other hand, a Genesis Coupe with a few mods will really stand out. I live overseas and shipped a gencoupe from the states to europe before euro dealers started selling it, and you wouldn't believe how many heads my genesis coupe turned (in both italy and germany). I like both cars but I prefer the agility of the genesis.

One of the few exceptions I would make when buying a car for pure style (the Camaro) over other potentially better cars (ex:Genesis) I would get a base V6/5spd like this one, forget the V8 crap.
Strap a nice, clean single turbo on the V6 and shed a couple of pounds here and there, upgrade the suspension and it's more than enough car while still getting great mileage as well.

Yes but the Camaro chassis is heavy anyway so competing with the 370z, genesis etc is pointless. American cars haven't had the best handling over the years but they have packed some serious muscle. That's what the Camaro is, a muscle car and no matter how many HP a V6 has its not a muscle car. There's that charisma about the V8 roar, the whole experience. If I wanted a screaming 6 I'd take the E46 I6 M3. The V6 Camaro has NOTHING on the M3. Stick with the V8s I say, the V6 is a waste.

@flight909090 actually Hyundai did make bad cars. The Hyundai Excel was a very unreliable car. Once they re-engineered and improved their line with the Elantra, Sonata and other models AND added the 10-year power train warranty they were able to over come those early problems. There are other reasons for their success, even supposedly their name is similar to Honda! Allowing some confusion for certain buyers! Believe it if you want. I heard this from a professor.

Yes, there are some autos that are faster than manuals, but all manuals with a good driver will beat most auto trannys 9 times out of 10. 9/10 A good driver with a manual car will probably be faster around a track. BUT a high-tech auto will always win in a straight line.
You still drive when you use an autobox. You still steer, you still have a foot on the accelerator and control over the brakes. Moving a lever around won't make the car go.

I have driven performance cars going back to the late 60s vintage. Some people can't handle larger cars such as my niece. Thats why she preferred a smaller less intimidating car. She has been driving maybe 3 years. Some are intimidated and are just afraid of driving a larger heavier road car, but I find that mostly with women. A lot of the Tuner crowd who like Civics seem to also be intimidated with a heavy car. You seem to fall into that category. So its really not the car, its about you.

it just depends on what u do wit ur car!! no one would ever take a camero to the track or autocross. it's only for straight line. that is why it lose in the twisty roads. they r just much slower in the turns no matter how good u drive. muscles cars r build for US cause it's mainly straight roads. europe and asian have the smaller lighter cars for their roads.

Zora Duntov helped design some of the older corvettes, he was a Russian Immigrant. And Japanese car owners have been talking smack for years because it was Chic to own something foreign. I also think Hyundai has built a great reputation over the past decade, and they are priced well--I just think the V6 Camaro is a steal as well.

@byronmohawk After thinking about it, your right it really isn't about which one is better. It comes down to which one is in your heart. When you get up in the morning which one would you want to see in your driveway. Start the engine, push in the clutch, feeling the throughout bearing engaging the the flywheel, so on ans so on.

@Blueball0120 I'm not bias againt any car, the corvette is a great car and the Ls1 is a fantastic engine, my comment was in response to airsoftsoldier101's comment. Seems kinda bias to state Hyundais arn't relaible when they have americas best warranty.

first off, that guy moves like he's a paraplegic.
second, i can literally drive a minivan around those winding roads faster than than he drove either of those. how about they race them (that way we can see if easing up the turns with the camaro is really necessary. and i'm pretty sure they might be evenly matched up to 0-60 but i'm pretty sure the camaro will just keep stomping out power)

i'll take the hyundai any day over camaro. take camaro if u love american muscle...if ur not into it it just looks outdated an weird.. only thing with genesis is the front facia and the small front grill..it definitely is due for a facelift
