  • just found out the truck I bought isan early 99. all in all i am stillhappy with the power compaired to the 454 i got rid ofin my chevy. just a little bummed out that i could have had more had I looked for anther 7.3.

  • @BikerTrashWolf The 99.5 can be livened up considerably with tuning from Jody at dp-tuner (dot) com

  • is the idm voltage difference like 110 vs 120? old to new

  • @cwbhood2 Yes and it makes a big difference.

  • hey, i have a E99 and its been custom tuned by dp tuner, and it still lacks alot of power does it matter what year injector drive module? so i could get a 2003? i heard them are the fastest ones... and my mpg is 10 any way i drive it... im about ready to trade it in for a 2008

and what mods would bump my mpg like what kinda turbo and injectors, i heard single shots do better on fuel Thank you for your time, i may ride up to your shop one day a buddy told me that u where close to us.

  • Thank you once again for taking time to reply to my question. I know you have a lot inquires, so greatly appreciate your time. Best regards.

  • @e030396 No problem that is what POWERSTROKEHELP is for, to help YOU the PowerStroke owner get the most from his truck.

  • Is the early 99 still a good one or is it just low on power?

  • Thanks for responding to my upgrade question below. By the way, I am having difficulty finding a supplier for the "Bigg Boost system that you spoke of in your video. Looking for one to put on my 1996 7.3L. PS. Does one need an intercooler for the Bigg Boost and SCT system. Thanks

  • @e030396 Most modern tuning will do away with the need for bigboost. I just checked and it is available on EBAY but just use one "g"

  • Excellent video series. Excellent is probably an understatement. Fantastic! Do you mention somewhere the differences between the 94 to 97 to 99 Power Strokes. I have a 96 F350 Power Stroke and was wondering how it differs from earlier and later production units. Thanks

  • @e030396 The biggest upgrade from the Gen1 PSD to Gen 2 PSD is the fuel system and the addition of the intercooler. The electric fuel pump in the 99-03 trucks is far more reliable and makes a bunch more power.

  • Can I just get a 2000 model year Driving module and install it in my early 99? Will it fit without modifications? Doo you advise against a used one?

  • @wjgeorge1 Yes the later model IDM will install no problem. I have done it many times. If you get a used one make sure to do the diagnostics ( buzz test etc) to make sure it is operating correctly.

  • Early 99s aren't going to be much more then work trucks eh? I better go strip my E99 Lariat F250 then

  • @smokindodge93 that isn't correct. The first part of the production run was cab-chassis to fulfill Ford's obligations to ambulance and government fleets, but the rest of the 99 production run was some real nice trucks. they just are underpowered compared to the later model trucks.

  • On the Injector Driving Module is there any reprogramming or is it plug-n-play?

  • @allian59 Yes IDM is plug and play.

  • what happend if i put a newer injectors to a 95 7.3l more power ???or more problem

  • @dieselinside69 No the truck will run like crap. The early injectors up to 1997 are single shot. The late injectors are split shot and require a different computer to run correctly. Believe me we tried it many years ago and figured out very quickly it was a dead end street.

  • @powerstrokehelp hey bill I have a 02 7.3 and it has a diy intake with a kn filter. I'm putting a wicked wheel on when it comes back from getting a few sensors and a fuel pump. Should I be on the safe side and get a afe filter. Any suggestions?

  • @Stroker6L yes the bigger air cleaner is good idea on the 7.3

  • how can i up grade the 2001 garret turbo to take of faster

  • @cuban571 You will get much more boost out of the stock turbo if you do the fuel system mods. A regulated return system is the best money spent. Think about it, more fuel means more fire, more fire makes more boost.

  • What about a LATE 99, Bill?

  • @rrs1080 If it has the Larger turbo then it is the same as a 2000+

  • How much could I pick up a powerstroke for? I don't really care about mileage, just functionality mainly. I saw your video on buying a powerstroke, that was helpful. I just want to find one I can use.

  • @Smigjo You just got to keep looking. Searchtempest (dot) com is a site that will crawl all the craigslist and autotrader sites within a specified range of your zip. It is a very powerful tool. Hope it helps. Good Luck.

  • @Smigjo cars.com too

  • my truck was built in january of 99' is it an early or late 99'

  • @PeteRMKnight700 It is hard to say without looking at it. Does it have the big turbo? If so it is late model.

  • I am curious if I can use this 220v controller in my 95 F250 7.3?

Will this make a noticable difference in power and reliabillity. And if so is it a direct plug in or are there other mods to to perform.

I am also wondering if I can us A-D injectors in my early 7.3?

Is there a book or other material that covers such mods? Thanks!

  • @jeffmclowry Yes the late model IDM will work in the early 7.3s. AND no to the AD injectors. The early injectors are single shot and the late models are spit shot and require different PCM tuning. No books that I have found, that is the reason that I made POWERSTROKEHELP.

  • Does all of this info still apply to the 96,97 powerstrokes?

  • These are the best instructional Powerstroke vids available.

Not only just well done and comprehensive for us Powerstroke owners, but a well produced, informative series over all. A+

  • QUESTION!? Is the conneector the same for the idm110 and idm120? Is $125 for a used idm120 a good deal?

  • There's a guy near me trying to sell an early 99 for $5,000 and it needs injectors and according to him, it'll cost about $1,200 at a shop, That's a joke. It'll cost me $1,800 to do it at home, more like $4,000 at a shop.

  • I found a 99 f250 powerstroke with 125,000 miles on it for 10 grand is that a good deal? what is the horse power and the torque of the 99 powerstrokes thanks

  • @98GMCSonoma4x40047 The 99 will need fuel injector and turbo upgrades to make power like a 2000+. The seat of the pants difference is significant.

  • this guy knows hes shit! if i was ever gonna take my truck to anyone it would be him

  • My 7.3 was built 3/98 according to the door tag. Does that mean I have one of the first trucks?

  • I have a build date of 3/98, does this mean it was one of the first built? Its a xlt extended cab 8 ft bed.

  • @mrtotts yes that is an "early" 99

  • great vid cant wait for more 5/5

  • Man you are a powerstroke guru! You are way more helpful than any shop!

  • hello Sr. I have some problems with mu truk I have a 1999 F250 7.3L 4x4... Could you or someone help me to find an original owners manual please, I will appreciate you'r help, thanks

  • hello Sr. I have some problems with my truk, I have a F250 1999 7.3 4x4.... Could you or someone help me to find an original owners manual, I will apprecite you'r help thanks

  • you can find it on google

  • Can anyone tell me what the idle loping (if i spelled that right) is for? because i keep seeing videos here on youtube of 6.4, 6.0 and 7.3 powerstroke with just a chip and exhaust and they lope at idle like crazy. my 2000 7.3 doesnt do that with the superchips setting set on performance

  • Its just for the sound. I makes it sound like the truck has a big cam in it like a built gasser. Does nothing for performance.

  • hey Bill, great videos! I have a few questions.

I have a 2003 F250 super duty 6.0L. I was wondering what upgrades I could install to longer it's life? also good performance upgrades, cold air, exhaust etc. nothing too extreme that you have had experience with??

  • Another great video! Your a life saver.

  • Bill I have a question could you put the AD injectors into a early 99? Thanks Matt great videos by the way

  • yes, that is the best way to upgrade power, IF the builder will accept your AB cores for AD injectors

  • i did not know this i went from a 99 f250 7.3 to a 97 f250 7.3 and like it alot more

  • Thanks for this video and information, I am hoping to get an 03 F250 7.3L if possible.

  • Awesome vid!!!! I love learing more about diesel engines! You present very specific detailed info you dont find most other places in a very simple and precise formate. Excellent job sir!

    Thanks for the vid!

  • the early 99 has a wicked wheel. also the pcm is crappy in many of the early 99's. it will shift and run better with a newer version

  • i love my early 99

  • The idm on the late 99- does NOT run on 220v.

The difference between e99 and 99.5- is going from 110v to 120v.

  • You are right that was a slip up. Thanks

  • Bill, so that's why the early Power Strokes sound so different? Because I've wondered about that since the 2000 model came out.

  • great vid and what exaust system do you recomend for an 01 f250 , it is a crew cab short bed with a 7.3, our exaust is starting to rust out and we would like to get allitel more power because more power is usally a good thing.

  • I am a fan of the ANSA silverline systems. They are complete and install nice and dont rattle.

  • @powerstrokehelp on your 7.3 performance video you like the super chip and sct programers. what do you think of the ts 6 postion chip i just installed it lately and wondering now if it wasnt a good idea..

  • @uberbadnoob6699666 I like dp-tuner F5/F6 system better because of Jody's attention to detail in the transmission tuning. His 80 hp economy tune is the cats ass.

  • @powerstrokehelp ya i here you can send the 6 postion chips to him and he will reburn his tunes for better shifting points

  • thanks for the info!

  • VERY NICE videos!!!!! another good one as always
