met Lucie Arnaz last night at a cabaret show, can't believe it's been 32 years since this show on broadway. After this show she started filming The Jazz Singer with Neil Diamond. at 59 she still looks great.
I remember this fro the Tonys and have wanted to see it again for so long. I saw this show on opening night just before Valentine's Day 1979. I remember Lucy was there in the lobby (the Imperial, not the Majestic) beaming. I have a pic of me with her somewhere. Great night.
Later I went again to the show. A matinee. Lucie & Rob really Sold it that day. The woman next to me was 'grooving' in her seat. When the lights came up it was instant recognition. It was Ingrid Bergman!!
What a shame that all great Broadway shows are not taped for posterity. Think of some of the great performances that are lost. Really, really stupid. I would pay a small forture to buy copies.
Let me add my thanks for posting this song.. Sure the show was a period piece but it was so much fun and brings back some great memories. Love the work of Hamlish and Sager and this was a real treat. Ms. Arnaz was particularly good. Tony Roberts who came later was equally very good.
Oh, man -- I haven't heard this song in twenty-eight years. I always remember liking it (it was part of an HBO special called 'Show Stoppers'). Thanks for this little bit of time machine.
Thanks for the memories. Lots of fun. The song is so much stronger with the cute visuals of these two talented performers. I have the recording, but again, the acting makes it soar. Love the corny disco, pointing fingers, throwing the tassels on the skirt and Lucy's ending gestures. Fun. Thanks for posting.
I believe I saw this musical maybe 20 or 25 years ago at the Warner Theatre in Wash., D.C. starring Lucie Arnaz and her real-life husband, Lawrence Luginbill.
Robert Klein appeared about two years ago at the Kennedy Center in Wash., D.C. with the National Symphony Pops and he did one of the songs.
Fantastic clip! Never saw the show, but after seeing this one bit on the Tony's, I immediately picked up the cast album, which I quickly wore out. It was good to see this number again.
Great video. Robert Klein and Luci Arnaz were wonderful together - high energy and lots of fun. Not much of this kind of entertainment around anymore.
I don't know how you recorded this and/or fixed it but THANK YOU so much...I saw them do it in LA and the story was so close to my own life at the time...I know all the words by heart. Also saw it in SF and NY later on. I ws told it would be a movie but it never happened.
It isbeing done at the Reprise Theater this September at UCLA starring Jason Alexander...if you're in CA you should see it.
I remember when it was done on the Tony Awards show. It impressed me so much, I never forgot it and seeing the video was such a blast from the past. Still have the record!
What a great moment in musical theater. I was lucky enough to see Lucie and Robert in L.A. when the show first open to gasps and thunderous applause. The only thing that amazes me is why she didn't become a much bigger star. She was a joy to watch on stage!!!
I also saw it L.A.!! It was so much fun! I hummed the soundtrack for months, much to the chagrin of those around me! Lucie Arnaz was quite ana amzing surprise> Lucy must have been proud!
A MILLION Thank You's, for posting this video. I re-discovered YOU TUBE, and never knew, videos like this (especially this one TPOS), could instantly stun and thrill me, as it did 30+ years ago at the Ahmanson Theater, before the N.Y. run, Dec. 2nd, (opened 1st ), and had to see it a second time. Mr. Hamlish 's follow up score, to a "Chorus Line", with Mr. Simon's book, (don't forget Ms. Bayer Sager's lyrics), every moment was a thrill. Lucie,GREAT. Robert ??, filled role well. Show= 70'sMAGIC.
This clip has been on YT a long time, but the audio was not synced with the video, so I cleaned it up a little. Had to so others who saw the original cast would have some video of the show. It is a shame this show is not available on DVD or something, but alas, it was done in the time before such things. saw the original cast a few months after you at the Majestic, 8th row middle/stage right, will never forget it. Lucy was great, Klein was incredible.
Thanks for Posting 2 of the best pop songs came from this Musical...Fallin and I still believe in Love...I was lucky enough to see this when one of the local Theater Groups at North Hollywood staged it! :-)
I loved this musical!!! What a shame that it hasn't been done again and that there isn't clearer footage of it. Thanks so much for posting it!
