When I open a MIDI file in any media player it plays fine..meaning all the instruments play as recorded. However when I open (some) in Sonar 7.. every MIDI track opens to play with the instrument of "brightness".. I have to go in each track and change back... What's going on? This is really annoying..!! Please help.
Same thing happens for me. I suppose if we were only using our computer sound card with the basic 127 MIDI sounds (like our media players use) it would be different. But we have many more sounds now.
Nevertheless; I heard in newer versions of sonar theres supposed to be a way to open a MIDI easilly using the TTS1 sounds.
Anyone else know something about that and how it works?
Dusty.. I have Sonar 7 PE, how to I set this up MIDI files to default to TTS1 as opposed to doing this everytime?
When I open a MIDI, the output defaults to my M-Audio Fast Track... so when I open the file there is NO audio.. I have to set output just as you are doing...
I have sonar home studio 8 and I have the same problem with the sound I have a sound card from asus sound max audio and I have 5.1 speakers every in my computer work besice sonar can you help me my email is mr.gallo18@yahoo.com
hi dustpuppy, so if I had a drum midi file but want to change the style of it to rock style using EZ Drummer then where in sonar will I go to in order to change it?
I really don't know since I haven't used EZDrummer. I just looked at it thru google and it looks like you would have to do that from EZDrummer, then bring it into your project.
@dustypuppy oh thats okay dustpuppy. i've just figured it out how to do it. but i'm having one issue...u know when i insert my midi file to sonar, somehow the speed of the midi is fast and it's not at its original speed. for instance, my midi file is about 50% fast but after i insert the midi file into sonar, it happen to go at about 70% fast. any suggestions beside using the tempo? thanks
@dustypuppy Thanks alot that really help. I was wondering you happen to have any clips of mixing and master all tracks and audio together? I've seen some other peoples' clips of that but usually I don't understand them like your clips. Thankyou!
I play Piano in a 60's 70's tribute band that play all the classics from that time. Just like all muso'c im looking to find really good Midi's to perform with. I've bought so many good Midi's but now I'm looking to find fellow Muso'c who will do and honest trade with great quality Midi's, saving us both $14 per track by helping eachother. send me a note via youtube and lets trade.
Thanks for your help on the controllers! So you don't need a controller to play if you use the soft synths. My next question: after taking the time to set the sounds for a midi file, I am finding I can't save the output to the TTS-1 when I open a project. I have to reset each track to play on the soft synth, which means I can't play the file live. How can you save your settings to open and play at a live gig?
the sounds save, but not the output (to TTS-1). Am I missing something?
thanks! you're a genius. .cwp didn't work for me, but. .cwt did. On my version of windows (Vista, Office 07), I have the option to save as Template, Project, Cakewalk Bundle or midi, Saving as Template worked. You just saved me soo much time, I never would have figured this out without your guidance.
I am shopping midi controllers to use with Sonar 7, you mention the M-audio Delta 1010, is there a preffered controller for the Sonar TTS! and other softsynths, I am wondering if you can get the sounds with a basic controller or do you have to have a sound card or a particular controller to hear these sounds. I am looking at the Yamaha KX61 controller, will this work with Sonar?
thanks, but I just learned after talking to a guy, that you must have an interface to get the sounds of the softsynths, that's what your M-Audio Delta 1010 gives, can you suggest a basic interface that will give you the full library sounds in the Producer addition of Sonar 7, that attaches by USB cable? I understand the M-Audio is a sound card
Yes my M-Audio is my sound card but it contains NO MIDI SOUNDS of its own. So I use the soft synths. These soft synths can also be used with a regular sound card and I was serious about drawing the notes in. You really don't need a keyboard to use these sounds. However if you get the KX61, you may also want to look at a good soundcard so you can play with near zero latency.
There are several including Cakewalk, M-Audio and Creative.

First, its important to use the correct driver mode. See my video called "Sonar First Time Set Up" for more on driver modes.
Good luck

it does'nt work :( i followed every step at the vid i still can't hear the midi though i can hear my audio recording :( i'm using sonar 8 producer
IanEatsMusic 1 year ago
@IanEatsMusic
Your MIDI and soft synths are not working? only audio?
This can be caused by settings in Sonar. What OS are you using? And what driver mode? see all about driver modes in my video "Sonar First Time Set Up"
I might also need to know what sound card or interface you use.
good luck

i have a question, when i press play on my sonar 4 series why does'nt play. what can I do to make it work?
tanjemikapayne 1 year ago
@tanjemikapayne
You mean it doesn't work at all?
The first thing to do is try all 3 driver modes. See my video "Sonar First Time Setup" for more about driver modes.
Good luck

@voiceofexpression
When you "import" a MIDI into sonar, you are bringing it into your project. Here, the MIDI will change tempo to match your song.
Instead of importing; simply "OPEN" the midi file as a new project in Sonar and it should retain its own tempo.

Ok, thanks for this video but i need your help.
I used to have this Cakewalk TTS thingy installed and it was gone after i formated the computer.
where the hell do i get it? i need it for FLS 9... please help me..

@l3vz1m1n
TTS-1 gets installed on your computer when you install Cakewalk SONAR.
Its included in the program and doesn't have its own installer so I don't know of any other way to install it.

perhaps you saved that as a MIDI file? (.mid)
Save as NORMAL (.cwp) file and all this should be saved.

I advise against saving it as a template. A template is intended as a starting place for a new project and should contain no data.
If it works for you, then thats cool but I say save as normal :)
dustypuppy 2 years ago
thanks, I'll try the normal, wasn't sure about repercussions of the Template save

Normal is also an option, but I didn't try it, fyi

Any controller will trigger these sounds. You can even draw in the notes with the mouse !
That Yamaha KX61 looks fine
good luck :)

I'm sorry I don't know
But theres people in the Cakewalk forum who will absolutely know.
Do a google search for "SONAR Producer and Studio Forum" You'll see the one I mean - and its a great wealth of information.
