i have 5 large pirahnahs and i stick my hand in the tank all the time have not been bitten once. but my oscar tank on the other hand i have to watch and its just 1 oscar but he jumps right out of the water towards my hand as soon as it goes over the tank
i would just like to say that mr known it all knows nothing - mikeye9 i am talking about , gods honest truth i have come across this video whilst looking at Oscar info , it was labeled how not to keep Oscars !!!!!! open your eyes ... penn1969 keep up the good work
I think that all Oscars are pretty, handsome, cute, beautiful, etc., equally. And I don't think that one person should bag on another person pets just because they think they have better pets. Because maybe their pets have a brighter colour, so what? But I bet that the ones in this video have a better owner and are cared for a lot better than the other ones. I just recently bougth two babies... And I can't wait until they get to this size! [:
hey i have an albino and tiger oscar both of them i bought three months ago. They are about 8 inches long.Everthing was fine but from the last two days tiger oscar became too agressive, it bang on the glass, try to eat snails and brawling with albino. And my poor albino is very scared of him.I tried to control his temper by putting a net and scaring him but that doesn't works. The moment i step out of sight, he try to do some really agressive feats. Please help me to solve the problem.Tank is 55gall
@mikeye9 Blimey, are you really 26 years old? You sure don't act like it, I would expect these sorts of comments from a young teenager, not a grown man. You really should grow up my friend and stop going around posting stupid comments on people's videos
@mikeye9 Christ, I have just seen a video of your Oscars. Yeah, I'm the first one to say they are very pretty. However, three Oscars in a 30 gallon tank, you're asking for trouble my friend, if you don't get a bigger tank very soon, you're pretty Oscars will probably be suffering from hole in the head disease, or some other horrible disease
@mikeye9 lol I just visited your channel because I read these hate comment you posted on this video. And on your tank setup video, you have 3 oscars in a small tank... you are the moron to even put 3 in 1 small tank to begin with. and secondly, you are super defensive against hate comments on your video yet you are making hate comments on other peoples videos... Hippacrit much? Piss off mate. that is all
Yes, it's vitally important that you get a tetanus injection straight away.
Only joking, it's very rare that an Oscar will hurt you. If it worries you, don't put your hand in the tank. Mind you, my Oscar jump out of the tank when they see a handful of food coming towards them :-)
i think its less about aggresion with oscars and more about eating...at least that how it seems with mine..they only act aggresive when its feeding time. its like they want to make sure they get theirs early lol
When it comes to cichlids oscars are the bottom of the food chain. I have had 3 oscars lose their life in my tanks and they were the bigger fish. Oscars do have teeth however they are molars towards the back of the mouth. Oscars can be killers in tanks by them selves or with smaller fish but put them in a tank with other cichlids its size and 9 out of 10 times the oscar gets hurt. Great fish and very smart oscars are def a great pet
Oscars are really good fish to have. They have an almost unpenetrable slime shield against pathogens and eat almost anything - mealworms, redmeat, pinkies, little fish, shrimp...etc.
Why does everyone assume that every Oscar is a killer? Of the six Oscars I've got, none of them areoverly aggressive towards any of their tank mates. When it comes to aggression, oscars are nowhere near the top of the list
Look, I've owned several Oscars in 10 years of fish keeping. I'm not assuming anything. Get that straight, first. Secondly, in my 10 years of fish keeping, I've found that my Oscars seemed to like the taste of Tiger Loaches. It's not like I didn't feed them. Fact is though, I've seen Oscars eat (By eat I mean, kill and eat) all kinds of things. There's a video of one eating 2 "pinky" mice here on YouTube. It's not a matter of aggression, they're predatory and Loaches look like prey to them.
okay, calm down. You've obviously been unlucky and copped some aggressive Oscars. Most people have problems because they keep the fish in tanks that are too small. if you give fish plenty of room you cut down the aggression dramatically.
WHY DOES EVERY 1 THINK OSCARS HAVE NO TEETH they DO HAVE TEETH IN THEIR MOUTHS U COULD FEEL THEM AND IF ITS A HUGE ONE eg. 16 inches up U COULD SEE THE TEETH PEOPLE GOT 2 GET THEIR INFO RIGHT B4 THEY TALK OR SELL FISH
from my research Fattdog is correct in his comment the large teeth of an oscar are in the back of the mouth I think there is only 4 ... on the lips I think it feels like a large mouth bass lip just with force added when you get bit
he is but they got teeth in their mouths 2 i cant believe im the only person in the world who takes time 2 observe oscars hav teeth & they got alot more than 3 in their mouths the got a whole row on top & bottom u can see them ecspecaily on a BIG oscar the bigger they are the more u see the teeth when their smaller their big lips hide them
your lucky u can leave ure top of ure tank open my oscar just jumps esspecially when u hesistate with food couple of times hes misjudged and come right out
The tank is 125 gallons. I have 2 Eheim 2028 filters running on each end of the tank. The Oscars are approximately 9 inches in length. I have four clown Loach as well, two of them are 7 inches, the other two are around 4 inches.
Sure they have little teeth on thier lips and tongue but get your finger in the crop you will know all about it. They can take the end of your finger off.
i bought an oscar fish about 2 weeks ago, but i only have a 20 gallon tank :(, and the thing ate my guppies! >:(, but its so cute! i dont want to get rid of it, and i love when it nibbles on my finger, i think i'll have to stop letting it nibble my finger pretty soon if it gets that big XD
Beautiful tank. What size is it? I have a 70 gallon with Jack Dempsey cichlids,. I love Oscar fish too. I couldn't help noticing your clown loach, he is HUGE! I've never seen them larger than 5 or 6 inches.
are they teeth or like sharp bones? cuz my oscar always opens his mouth wide and i never seen any lol...but he did shred a fish before and spit it out for some reason
Oscars like many other cichlids/fish have abrasive gums. When a oscar bites you it feels like your finger got raked with sandpaper. Oscars bite hard and sometimes it can draw blood. If you look very closely you can see what looks like micro teeth. These are used for biting and holding their food in their mouths. African Malawi cichlids use them to scrape algae from rocks as well. Their *real* teeth are sharp bones in the back of their mouths along the inside of the gills. Thats what shreds food.
Oscars do have teeth in their throat. they don't have traditional teeth in their mouths, like piranha for instance, but they have very rough edges to their mouths which is why they can draw blood
zaracki92, that'll work for a while, but eventually they're going to get huge. I had 2 in 35 gallon, and now I need to get a bigger tank for just one of em
eheheh, actually i dont hav any oscars but i'm gonna buy some :P will three oscars be fine in a 120 gallon tank??(i just like provoking people with "fishes i own")
You cant keep three oscars in a 29 gallon. You cant even keep one oscar in a 29 gallon. You need at least a 55 gallon for one. They get to be HUGE. Do some research before you buy animals, that way you wont kill them
Sorry i didnt read anything, I posted without looking. Sorry for being an asshole, lol! I guess i just over react because there are people out there who dont do research about their pets, and dont give them good homes. Especially with fish. Good for you for getting a big tank for them!
i am trying to hand feed my oscar as well, any tips?mine is really big to,just click on my name and you can see the movie.would like to know what you think about it.
My oscars nip me all the time, usually when they're really hungry or excited. Doesn't really hurt, and I'd hope it wouldn't discourage anyone from hand feeding them. They're just like dogs:)
You are obviously one of these people who takes great pleasure in trawling the Internet looking for people to abuse. You are a child, somebody who needs to grow up. I will be blocking you from posting any further messages on here
and btw i had like 20 ghost shrimp in my tank with my oscars and the fish store guy said the oscars wouldnt bother them and the next day...all the ghost shrimp were gone...did they die or do oscars mess with them??????
Putting shrimp in with Oscars would be tantamount to putting a medium rare fillet steak and chips on a plate in front of me, it wouldn't be there very long
(Wit lovely accent) It is blood isnt it !!
