  • Absolutely well done! You kept the feeling of Skip James' original in there very well and added your own take. Hats off...

  • @Nulanula Awesome and inspiring comment, thanks! I guess I was hoping to keep it close to what Skip James would sound like, it took me close to a year to get this song right, well worth it though.

  • bloody amazing mate,

Pretty much convinced me that I'll never grip the "blues" by just sticking in standard tuning. Did you lean this from tab or from ear?

    Also, love the resonater!

  • @jesusthesecond Thanks bud, yep to get most from blues you also gotta step outside of standard tuning, i never played in standard for years now. Any of the open tunings give blues a different feel. I never seen tab for this tune anywhere, some good YT videos out there which can point the way, thats how i got started with this tune.

  • That's some good pickin'! Keep it up.

  • Spectacular!! Very beautiful!

  • Excellent job man!! really nice picking...

    gorgeous git too!

    well done.

  • @bennettvonbennett thanks so much, yes i love to play this tune too, relaxin' the national guitars are something else, this one is about 11 years old now and is mellowing nicely, never been polished in all that time tho!!

  • Excellent job man!! really nice picking...

    gorgeous git too!

    well done.

  • Nice job!!

  • wow is all i can say i have played this over and over wow

  • @79rican thank you so much, wow I never got such a great comment, I feel all inspired again now, thanks, Please also listen to other of Skip James songs he was a true great.

  • Great performance of a really tricky tune to get just right! Well done, are you in DADFAD?

  • @pete2778 Hi thanks, yes, as the skip james original, I play in D minor tuning, DADFAD, where the third string is lowered one tone from Open D tuning.

  • good job man.

if anyone is interested, i covered this song too, you'll find the recording on my channel.

    thanks :)

  • If you're still practicing and renovating this, I'd like to hear what it sounds like now.

  • That's a lovely sounding resonator!

  • @ElvisChrist6 Cheers! this guitar just keeps sounding better the older it gets.

  • awesome cover

  • Kick ass!

  • @elfcarnage2010 class comment, cheers!

  • Great playing and singing Jack :) Lusia

  • @rognlucy Thanks Lusi, this is a tune that I took about a year to work out well, its my fave tune to sing and play now. Have a look at other Skip James tunes he was magic.

  • Great playing and singing! This one is on my wish list, but have a hard time getting it down, both the playing and the singing. That Reso sounds great, by the way.

  • @EddyCBlues Thanks Eddy, this took me a while to get right too, i did find a YT instruction video by bobheaton really useful to start off with he talks you throught the basics of this really well. I see you have that rocking thumb bass line in D tuning down to a tee so really you should get this tune easy, but yep a good reso helps so much - I see you also got one of those!

  • Thumbs up !!!!!

  • @rogersgitar Thanks, I still love this tune, the 1931 original by Skip is just awesome.

  • *****Good cover

  • Thank you and cheers for 5*

  • Good job.

  • Cheers, keep up your good guitar playing too!

  • Of all your videos I like this one the best . You have the voice to pull this off. I would slow down. It is a little to fast causing it to sound up and a little jumpy. Nice stuff. Happy Holidays. Enjoy

  • Thanks for those kind word KeniLee, glad you tuned into my channel too. You are also right and I should work on slowing this song down a little. Yay - Resonate:-)

  • Nice version Jack! :) Keep 'em coming Peace

  • Thank you Im glad you liked this tune, hope it inspires you to give playing it a go!

  • Playing it isn't a problem, it's the singing part where I'm having some troubles :)

  • great work man.

  • Nice voice for the song!

  • Thank you, this is still my favourite tune to play.

  • I know the feeling! This, Hard Time Killing Floor Blues, and Illinois Blues, are all favourites of mine by James to play..just so good!

  • Wow! That was amazing! Someday I want to sit down and learn this or Washington D.C. Hospital Center Blues entirely.

  • Thanks for that, go learn both tunes they both awesome to sit and work out and to chill to. D minor tuning is real good also to noodle around or play slide, enjoy!!

  • Great job!

  • Thank you, this is a nice tune to learn, more of a challenge than it sounds!

  • hairs stod up a little good job bud..i cant figure out the tabs

  • thanks for that, appreciated, in the near future I may try to break the guitar piece down and post on YT so keep checking in!

  • where can i find tabs for this song? i love it but cant find t anywhere

  • Hi, sorry I've never seen tab for any Skip James music, main thing to do is get your guitar into D minor tuning. Search on youtube for bobheaton, he has a slowed down version of this tune that will get you on track. Good luck and enjoy working it out!

  • that is my favorite song by skip james, and you done it awesome, thank you for sharing it.

  • Thank you, yeah I love this tune too, took me ages to get it right, Skips music sounds much easier than it actually is, he was a truly great musician.

  • What a cool dude, great video Jack. But whats the cow doing on the lawn.Thought you got your milk from the dairy.

  • Thank ya kindly Princess, yup I make my own malted milk whenever a cow turns up!

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks Bruce, looking forward to you resonatin' sometime soon.
