this song is about child abortion. she compares the chalk cliffs of dorset to the white chalky bones of a child. and there's blood on her hand. - listen to the lyrics.
@subterrabln PJ's mentality is that every song isn't about anything and is about everything. It's up to us to feel the melody and lyrics and find our own meaning in it. As she said herself: "The song inhabits itself, really."
@subterrabln That was what I felt in the last verse. Can't anyone read or hear the word white without making a link to cocaine. It's insulting to this artist, who has REAL substance by the bucketload, not "illicit substances." To suggest a link to drugs is simply puerile.
It's not about cocaine, but about the chalky cliffs of the southern coast of England, where she's from. It's a pretty literal song, as far as I can tell.
i so wish i were that fucking harmonica, those delicious petite lips of hers...there is not antidote in this world to dispell me from her; she's so awesome and one of my biggest inspirations ever!
I think she uses the mic in front of her face, pumped into the little amp on the piano, then into the mic in front of the amp for recording and amplification. The amp probably has a preset effect that she uses.
This is music , It was made for the sake of it . Not commercial stuff , I feel something ( it takes me away ). I wish the industry could get back to basic sometimes

i like that one!
Dorset's cliffs meet at the sea
Where I walked
(Our unborn child in me)
White chalk
(Poor scattered land)
Scratch my palms
There's blood on my hands.
