  • this song is about child abortion. she compares the chalk cliffs of dorset to the white chalky bones of a child. and there's blood on her hand. - listen to the lyrics.

  • @subterrabln PJ's mentality is that every song isn't about anything and is about everything. It's up to us to feel the melody and lyrics and find our own meaning in it. As she said herself: "The song inhabits itself, really."

  • @subterrabln That was what I felt in the last verse. Can't anyone read or hear the word white without making a link to cocaine. It's insulting to this artist, who has REAL substance by the bucketload, not "illicit substances." To suggest a link to drugs is simply puerile.

  • Get a fucking grip about coke!!! Always with fucking drug references!

Enjoy an absolutely brilliant ballad sung to perfection.

    PJ, we love you.

  • she just cleared her throat and its music already!

  • I only discovered PJ Harvey this summer, by accident. Now I own every album. I am in love, love, love.

  • i wish i were that harmonica <3

  • The harmonica on this is so nice. Sunday is gonna be amazing.

  • running the vocals through that tiny ass vox is such a cool idea!!

  • too much echo, but I still love it

  • Speechlessly brilliant

  • So much echo, i love it.

  • unbeliveble! turn uo side down.

  • this is one of the few perfect songs.

  • This is absolutely stunningly beautiful. Amazing Polly.

  • Pooly Jean is one in a zillion. what an extraordinary creature. pure artistry. but i guess i'm preaching to the converted...

  • A perfect song.

  • Amazing. She's one of the best artists ever.

  • Everything she does is brilliant, when did they stop making women like this?

  • is this about cocaine?;p

  • It's not about cocaine, but about the chalky cliffs of the southern coast of England, where she's from. It's a pretty literal song, as far as I can tell.

  • i so wish i were that fucking harmonica, those delicious petite lips of hers...there is not antidote in this world to dispell me from her; she's so awesome and one of my biggest inspirations ever!

  • awesome writer - how does she get this effect?? I see 2 mics - one in front of an amp? didnt know she played piano ...

  • I think she uses the mic in front of her face, pumped into the little amp on the piano, then into the mic in front of the amp for recording and amplification. The amp probably has a preset effect that she uses.

  • This performance is so dreamlike, I love it.

  • She is Stunning!

  • llena el aire la musica de ella...

    hermoso

  • This is music , It was made for the sake of it . Not commercial stuff , I feel something ( it takes me away ). I wish the industry could get back to basic sometimes

  • i like that one!

Dorset's cliffs meet at the sea

    Where I walked

    (Our unborn child in me)

    White chalk

    (Poor scattered land)

    Scratch my palms

    There's blood on my hands.

  • Only 75 views? What a shame! :(
