"A Kind of A Kind of Magic" is just a bonus track from the CD/Remasted issue of the A Kind of Magic album. A Kind of A Kind of Magic is just a re-editied version of the single, with a different intro. The "Highlander" version of AKOM isn't on any official Queen album apart from bootleg b-sides and I believe there is a rare compilation album called "Royal Rarities" which features the Highlander version.

I had a cassette in 1988 when I lived in Germany that had this version on it. Actually it had both versions on it. This one was titled It's A Kind Of A Kind of Magic. I lost the cassette and never thought I'd hear this version again.

I think that is not the point. This version is more "rocky" and less "poppy". This one is the Roger Taylor take of the song.

The released version was re-touched by Freddie, because he wanted to give the song a more "poppy" and commercial feeling. He changed a little bit of the lyrics, he added a diffrent background harmony. So, the single/album version is the Freddie Mercury take of the song.

No they didn't. There was an album released with tracks from Highlander, H2 and H3, but it's far from being a proper soundtrack for the original movie. I actually have an unofficial bootlegged version of the Highlander soundtrack which features all of Michael Kamen's tracks plus some stuff recorded for but not used in the film. It was never made available commercially, though.

Well I don't know. I prefer the album version better. But this is good as well. A lot of people say this track is better just because it was never commercially released and is therefor considered a rarity. Well it was considered a rarity, nowadays internet makes things like this easier to find.
