apparently this game sells for like $80 now b/c its so rare, I had no idea! And even though the animation of the characters is complete crap, it was/is still a great game, with the best background music of any game I've ever played and it was actually pretty challenging
lol PSO for life... I've never played PSU but it would never compare to PSO. PSPortable isnt very good at all. But the new PS0 is soooo good. Not as good as the original, but pretty darn close.
Phantasy Star Zero for DS. Very challenging especially the tower challenge said above 450 FLOORS OF MONSTERS 11 BOSSES ITS INTENSE!!! It took me like 4 hours on normal with a level 40 hunter.
The bosses in psu suck ass The bosses in PSO were so much better. In PSU you only had 5 bosses and all rest are just re-skinned so they dont cont. Now IN PSO we had 9 bosses not inxludeing re-skinned bosses and the lost boss had 3 defraud fums and ep 2s lost boss had 2 forms of hes onw
One more thing, on PSO, many of the ladies didn't look like hookers like on PSU. There was also not many lobby spammers like there is on PSU. They just ask to join parties and stuff but on PSU they just pressure you to buy an item that they will rip you off on. Like I said, PSO was much better. Any boss on PSO can kick any bosses ass on PSU. :)
level up over the same damn thing when. TTF was much more fun on PSO because you didn't stay in the same place just to get to one boss. I'll miss you PSO. V.V
PSU is just another copy of PSO. PSO is way better, that was original. In a lobby, you were able to talk to everyone, now you can only speak to them in a party. So what if there was an expansion? In PSO, they just added more stuff. No need to waste money/gamer points on some expansion. It was a fun time. Not to mention that half of the crap on PSU was kind of a copy from PSO. One thing that I like in PSO is how the special weapons all have a unique look. Even though PSU had a larger range of weapons you could use, they all looked pretty much the same to me. Even the S-ranks didn't look good. I couldn't care about PvP since Battle in PSO kinda sucked, but don't dismiss challenge mode, that was far more fun then regular grinding could ever be.
Microsoft? for what? LOL Sega owns the damn franchise. And there's nothing you can do about it. PSU is for 360. I'm pretty sure the majority of Xbox Fanboys don't want the game anyway.
Man you know PSU is garbage, I rather play PSO ep 1 and 2 on my 360 or wii (im about to own both versions, gamecube and xbox that were released on 2002 i think) anyway we need a real sequel or remake.
Bull-shit. The battle system of PSU is MUCH more refined than PSO. The only thing I'd change is taking away PP and returning TP and making SP. And have that be character based rather than equipment. That and a massive Photon weapon reduction.
I played PSO for YEARS since v1 and I know damn well PSU is a better game fundimentally.
We all know that PSU was an improvement over PSO and that the game as a whole runs way better than PSO, but PSU lacks the charm PSO had. I found PSU so boring, and I blame the community for this partially because all they did was spam the newest mission, it was far more repetitive than PSO was. I flat out enjoy PSO way more than PSU despite it's flaws.
I can't agree that it's more repetitive. PSO had 4 levels with 2-3 stages each. and then 2 more (REAL ) levels in Episode 2 with 3 stages each.
I can't really consider the temple or space ship new levels. Or even unique since they were just packed with random enemies from regualr PSO. Although Gol Dragon was my favorite Dragon, and Barba Ray was my favorite ROLe' (Not saying much cause I hate DeROLe in all forms. And it's insulting they made Falz a Reskinned RoLe in PSU) But your right..
About the community. They did spam the same stuff over and over. (Thats why I made friends.) We'd just discuss what we wanted to do and then went to do it. If you've got friends theres actually ALOT more to do in PSU. The market system is another thing that kinda took away from the PSO like appeal. Why go hunt a million hours for a chance to fail at making a weapon when you can buy it fully formed from another player right?
Another thing PSO has over PSU is PVP which I wish they woulda added.
All in all I believe the subscription thing is the major player as to why the game is failing. They should just do away with it and open a cash shop. I had more activity on DC PSO than any other version. I noticed GC PSO was never as bumping even though it had a decent run. Another thing that sucks is the non JP players have to deal with very poor customer service and irregular event pacings. I think one month on one month off woulda been winning. But forcing all the events into 1 short burst
then doing nothing for months and months and months as far as content is a bad strategy. I also think all the old event missions they never plan on doing again should all be placed perminently in the Guardians HQ. This next playstation portable ver of PSU is suppose to have online lobbies. I think that would be a good thing. Free play for everyone. It wont be nearly as hard to find willing parties. (PSP was a bigger seller for some reason.) i've been playing that, no PSU for months.
What nonsense. PSO isn't THAT good. ALL the classic series are better than it is. And PSO lacks in a lot of departments.
To behave like it's the best in the series is nothing but nonsense. It's a Fan-Service game with no bearing. And it's even been admitted as such by Sega.
Saying PSU is shit, while it's your opinion, that doesn't make you right. PSU is a strong series of games. And as far as a compelling story goes, and good characters go, the strongest PS game since Sonic team got it.
that's not saying much, since PSO had 0 character development. It was a well designed multiplayer mystery that worked out great. PSU is more of an online grindfest with a mediocre story with no real relation to the series.
I'd rather fantastic fanservice than mediocre followup, myself. Probably why I enjoyed ps0 so much. Beautiful game mechanics, and addictive gameplay.
I think PSU is a retelling of the story, which makes it it's own series. It's already had 3 stories in it's line and a 4th one on the horizon. And they are all tied into each other much like the original series tied into others in that series. It may not be related to the originals, but it is it's own series, so it doesn't have to be. And I wouldn't call it "Fantastic" fanservice to begin with. Good but not great. And I find PSO to be MUCH more of a grind than PSU.

Lets see, First of all all 4 planets exsist. with obviously similar names... Parum(Parma), Motoob(Motavia), Dezoris(Nudaiz or to say it differently NEW DEZ) Lush green planet, Desert waist land and instead of ice, it's covered with water. Looming threat of an ancient evil being assisted by a human lacky possessed, Howzer ( Lassic/Zio) Mother Brain becomes infected and starts going berserk (I don't even have to explain that one.) Artificial Satilite falls on Parum(Parma) Instead of
destroying it, it simply does a more realistic thing and destroys a large city. (They have barriers around their cities.) Which is a direct nod to Giara crashing into Parma if you can't figure that out. Meirei and Karen, two sisters who share one spiritual essance. (directly related to Nei/Neifirst's thing) Only instead of killing eachother they bond and basicly fuse together while one of them dies. Rykross brings warning of impending doom, or in this case a large Seed infestation and Falz.
So it's essentially IS a retelling of the original series, in a compressed form. Where they take many key elements from the stories and then give them a twist to keep it fresh. And add their own underlined theme. If you can't see that you're not really a fan of the series.
And I played PSO just fine. It's just there wasn't very much to do in regards to game play. The same 4 levels repeated over and over, Online content that wasn't very good.
Having been so use to the much harder Dreamcast version, when I played it on the game cube the game got raped up and down from the moment I picked up the controller. And thats why it's a grind. Just doing the same mission over and over. PSU has so many missions you can pick out of that if you try them theres ALOT more to do. Hunting items wasn't all that exciting. I found making a drop chart more fun than getting rares. Cause most of the rares were lame. By the end I had everything and did
everything there was to do in the game hundereds if not over a thousand times each. I still to this day haven't done everything in PSU, and I'm VERY far from finding all the gear I can obtain. And thats saying a lot because I'm over 145, 119, 79, 60
All I really miss from PSO are limited. 1: The better color pallet for hair color, 2: PVP, 3: non-photon weapons.
Yeah, if you spam one mission, every game is a grind. Why would you do that? Leveling is so easy. You should relax and enjoy the game instead of spamming one mission over and over, because there's actually more than one mission in PSO, whereas PSU, every mission is the same. Kill stuff, get reward.
As for the retelling thing, that just means that the game is totally unoriginal. Which is even more sad. :/
I don't spam one mission... I've played EVERY mission in PSO more times than can be counted. And I usually do a full game run per play session.
And no, theres not more kinds of enemies in PSO, PSO & PSU come out to about the same in that department.
And it's not TOTALLY unoriginal. They added some nastolgia in because they were good. But the story is deep enough it can stand on it's own feet WITHOUT those aspects, which is something PSO cannot do, because it doesnt really have a story at all
Little snipets of text from optional sources do not make a story, the hunters guild missions are those closest thing to a story you get. Which is lax to say the least. That game is one of the biggest grindfests in history. No ifs ands or buts, it's extremely limited in what you can do. The ammount of different stages and missions in PSU even today far exceeds the enterity of PSO. And they've actually had active competitive events, which is something PSO really didn't have at all.

Anyway, it's clear you and I will never agree, so lets just agree to disagree and discontinue this converstation. You think your way and me and my friends will think our way. We all love PSO and wasted hundereds of hours each on it, but we all agree PSU is fundimentally a better game.
That's just ignorance. The story is the story, whether it's forced down your throat or not, not to mention that, no, PSU's story was not deep by any measure of the word. Final Fantasy has deeper stories.

I'm gonna disagree with you on that one too. It's story was alot deeper and more complicated than you give it credit for. Either you haven't played through the whole thing. Or you just don't know deep.
Final Fantasy Stories are C grade almost universally, PSU alone gets a B- or a B because of cliches and sappy parts, but all in all it was well executed.. But with the additional perspectives and lengthening of Episode 2, 3, and PS:P it gets boosted to B+ or A- range.
If you honestly think that then you only take stories at face value, and look at what's fed to you as apposed to thinking about what everything actually means...
No, I've thought about it all and made ties to what I could. But PSO is incredibly weak. The whole Black Paper storyline was the best in it, and that is just a side story. Both the Rico logs and the story of Flowen were terrible stories. And that was the main vein. Flowen's story is probably a D, while Rico's is an absolute disgrace. A total failure.
And because the story was so weak, PSO, was nothing but a fan service grind-fest, where your biggest goals were to grind for experience or grind for weapons. Nothing but a fashion show for weapons and mags. Very few actual things to do. Most of the "Quest" stages werent even remixed. Most were just flat out the exact same 4 levels you run through doing forest to falz with very little variation to monster arrangment. And episode 2 missions were so few it's laughable.
In no way did I fail to do a good job. You can't see anything because you're clearly blind by obscene amounts of fanboyism for PSO. You're completely free of any objective view. Enough of you, you have no idea what you're talking about and you've wasted more than enough of my time.
WELL PSO IS A OLD GAME. i admit if u didnt grow a love for the game u will finally see it for what it reallyis once uve done everything.. but i got pso syndrome so regardless of what i do i still play it. spam ttfs not so much hack it. hell yes...in my 9 years of playing that game ive never reached 200 so untill i do ill still think pso dominates psu and ff12. alllllllso its thegreatest mmorpg of all time it literaly started mmorpgs on consoles
If I'd had played it as intensely as I did in v1/2 and the first 2 years of Ep 1&2. I most likely would have 2 memory cards of lv 200s. I believe I enjoy it best when in the low low 100s though. Theres still some-what of a chance of death in ult at that point. Once you get to like 150-160 though thats all gone. I was addicted to PSO, and I loved it. But after not playing it for a good long time, I can see it's not nearly as good as I had thought way back then. I did play it recently though
about a month back I pulled all my low level characters up over 100. And out of all my weapons I've found (Which includes every item you can obtain) I think my best find was the 95% hit H&S Justice. Which eventually because of my fear of losing it to data loss went on to be mass duped. Hah, I trusted a duper when I didn't know how to dupe to make me a copy because he was supposivly a friend,. Then when I took a 2 month break it turned out there was a billion copies by the time I got back on.
Found by my purplenum Fomarl named Plum, cooincidently just before I stopped playing her, because my huneweral Jezzabelle benifited from them more. Found um in the VH ruins in a box of all places. Specificly that room with the hook shape, that starts off narrow, and has the purple gas. If I would have been more stubborn with it the tekker would have taken it to 100% because at 95% it didn't make the "Correct" sound. But 5% isnt that big of a loss, since it took so much meseta to get 95.
1: I played PSO back when BB was new. That's about it.
2: I have 101 complaints about the game.
3: I played PSU shortly after.
If I'm blinded by PSO fanboyism, then that's got to say something about it, since I've had just as much exposure to PSU. PSU is simple and shallow. It's pretty, and really, nothing beyond that.
Not that either of them hold a candle to a Tales of...
PSU is in no way "Shallow" when compaired to PSO. There is ALOT more to do in PSU than there is in PSO. And the control/battle system is far better. The story is more detailed and in depth. PSU has more in every aspect except for PVP/Challenge mode. PVP is a loss, but C-mode really isn't.
And Tales are full blown offline games. PSO/PSU has always had a development split between Story and Online play, they are not really the same type of game as Tales.
Tales is closer to resembling games like dot-hack, and FF12. Which it is definently better than I couldn't even stand playing FF12 or any dot hack game all the way through even once. But I've played Tales of Destiny a good 3 times.
Theres not really alot of games like PSU or PSO, most games have a sort of traditional RPG thing going on. Even WOW, You have to have significant distance between you and the enemy for their attacks to not hit you at all. But in PSO/PSU you can simply avoid hits.
If you honestly think that, you haven't thought much about %s, specials, sphering, photon drops, and in ep4, black papers. There's a lot more to every weapon you get in PSO, and it makes a huge difference in how you play.
PSU has a better basic combat system, but that has nothing to do with depth. If anything, PSO's more archaic system has more depth for not allowing you to button-mash your way through it.
And in PSU there are %s, on both weapons and armor. And more than just 4. And when theres a % there is only one. Which forces you to strategicly choose your weaponry and armor. Armor on PSO is one size fits all with no real benifits other than the static set up. You can have weapons or armor from 1-50% in varying degrees. Plus there breakability of weapons now changed to downgraded max power which adds even more depth to the weapon system. Photon spheres are just for mass produced 100%s

Grinders with no failure rate produce no variation. And the fact you can have 2%s at 100% means you could essentially carry 2 weapons for all of PSO, reducing even further the thought that goes into it. And while it is true you can button mash and still live, you're not doing premium damage and thus playing the game poorly. The timing has been converted into a critical hit and counter system. Using the classic timing will yield stronger attacks, and it works with photon arts as well.
Plus theres counter attacks as well which also yield critical hits. All of these things require perfect timing. And the timing varys from weapon to weapon, adding more depth there. In PSO it was a 1 size fits all timing for all things only changing with battle units. The crutch of mags were removed and replaced with the PM system which allows you to forge weapons. And regarding on how it grew is what your PM is good at making. So theres a whole other varying % system you're also ignoring.
PSU has ALOT more depth than PSO, you just have failed to see it. Customizable clothing and rooms are another thing of depth. And while it started out sort of limited being a few squares inside a guardians HQ room, you now can place items how ever you like in a free plane with adequt space. You can even put your room on any of the planets. On top of that, the fact that there is Race+Class+Sex free of a static representation that allows you to become WHAT YOU WANT....

That adds even more depth to the statistical system. As each race has different stats, with different stats for each gender, and different stats for every job. Different weapon specialties too.
So thats a LARGE plain of depth that PSO doesn't have. PSO has set stats with limited fluxuation based on Materials. Which isn't all that much difference in the end unless you're a total newbie at making a mat diet. and have no desire to max your stats out as much as possible.

And as for "Specials" All those effects are still around in one form or another. Most are added effects in certain photon arts. Like Meseta Fury. Or the HP drain for additional damage. And every element has a special effect of it's own by defult which can be improved through training. Not being linked to specific weapons allows for flexability making the player able to set things in a more customized way, Especially in regards to bullets. Now some of the effects that could only happen to..

you in PSO you can use against the enemies in PSU in a veriety of ways, rather than being stuck to a weapon which is likely a piece of junk damage wise.. As well as several new things comming in effect wise. So yeah, you're pretty much just undercutting things here.
Those "%s" are elements. And in PSO, you could only have 3, adding depth to every single weapon you pick up. In PSU, you just pick your element and get your random x-50%, and the the grinding is just sad. Not to mention synthesis as a whole.

Yes they are elements, SIX of them. And I wouldn't say being able to add to the %s adds more depth. Because to me, it's just like cheating. And the Synthesis thing is fun. It's alot like using a blacksmith on Ragnarok Online. And elemental %s make a lot more sense than racially targeted %s. And having only ONE percent per weapon adds a greater level of balance to the game. You have to actually plan out what you intend to do and what you'll be fighting before you go in there to do peak damage.
You had to do that before. I knew someone with something like 6 Viviennes in PSOBB, because they wanted one for every area.
And I never even mentioned adding %s... But, yeah, it does add depth, because it allows you to customise the weapon further after picking it up, and prepare it, with a lot of dedication. You can't just buy a sphere for 2000mes.
Stupid idea to go get the xbox version since you need xbox live in order to play the game at all, and the servers are down so I don't think you can even play that version anymore :|

I don't know if you have a DS, but they've announced a game for it; Phantasy Star Zero which supposedly has online. They're putting pictochat as a chat function for it, and I'm guessing it's going to use Nintendo Wifi which will be free.
u can play this online off your computer for free. they have fan servers. try schthack phantasy star online. you can get episode one, two and four. possibly three aswell im not sure.

PEOPLE i have a problem on PSO and i need help badly =(
i have ... foolishly somehow managed to duplicate my main character and now she is on another memory card on as a TEMP character but on my first memory card it says shes still on it and NOT on transfer data sign and THAT character has got nothing on it D=..... so how do i get rid of the dupliate and return my real character to The first memory card ??????
oh dude i think i remember something like that happened to me...i don't remember how i fixed it...i think i gave all of the items on the duplicate character and gave it all to another character i have with a second controller, then just deleted the dupe and returned all of the things back to my original. You do have 2 controllers right?

Heh!. I got a 143 racast, 115 fomar, 128 hucast, 90 hunewearl, 105 fomar, 98 racast, 117 Ra someting, a girl, and some lvl 80 chars. haven't played on a while, only played Offline.
My highest level character was a lv 168 FONEWEARL that had almost all level 30 technics with no hacked, modded, or item assistance from any other characters online, i was a strictly an "accept no gifts, or money" person, i only played with other legits and only used items i found or made myself, and my lv 200 mag was an Ila with 186 mind.
i think that the music sucks and the vid isnt the bes t tribute for pso but ill make a vid soon about pso 2 and im not lame like jimlad :) :D but pso is a cool game and everyone should play it

One thing that I like in PSO is how the special weapons all have a unique look. Even though PSU had a larger range of weapons you could use, they all looked pretty much the same to me. Even the S-ranks didn't look good. I couldn't care about PvP since Battle in PSO kinda sucked, but don't dismiss challenge mode, that was far more fun then regular grinding could ever be.

I got to around 125 on the Dreamcast with my top character.
On Gamecube I got to 166. And my level on all my charas is a minimum of 100. (4 cards full)
So yeah, clocked a lot of hours on this game.

Bull-shit. The battle system of PSU is MUCH more refined than PSO. The only thing I'd change is taking away PP and returning TP and making SP. And have that be character based rather than equipment. That and a massive Photon weapon reduction.
I played PSO for YEARS since v1 and I know damn well PSU is a better game fundimentally.

We all know that PSU was an improvement over PSO and that the game as a whole runs way better than PSO, but PSU lacks the charm PSO had. I found PSU so boring, and I blame the community for this partially because all they did was spam the newest mission, it was far more repetitive than PSO was. I flat out enjoy PSO way more than PSU despite it's flaws.

I can't agree that it's more repetitive. PSO had 4 levels with 2-3 stages each. and then 2 more (REAL ) levels in Episode 2 with 3 stages each.
I can't really consider the temple or space ship new levels. Or even unique since they were just packed with random enemies from regualr PSO. Although Gol Dragon was my favorite Dragon, and Barba Ray was my favorite ROLe' (Not saying much cause I hate DeROLe in all forms. About the community. They did spam the same stuff over and over. (Thats why I made friends.) We'd just discuss what we wanted to do and then went to do it. If you've got friends theres actually ALOT more to do in PSU. The market system is another thing that kinda took away from the PSO like appeal. Why go hunt a million hours for a chance to fail at making a weapon when you can buy it fully formed from another player right?
Another thing PSO has over PSU is PVP which I wish they woulda added.

All in all I believe the subscription thing is the major player as to why the game is failing. They should just do away with it and open a cash shop. I had more activity on DC PSO than any other version. I noticed GC PSO was never as bumping even though it had a decent run. Another thing that sucks is the non JP players have to deal with very poor customer service and irregular event pacings. I think one month on one month off woulda been winning. But forcing all the events into 1 short burst

I also think all the old event missions they never plan on doing again should all be placed perminently in the Guardians HQ. This next playstation portable ver of PSU is suppose to have online lobbies. I think that would be a good thing. Free play for everyone. It wont be nearly as hard to find willing parties. (PSP was a bigger seller for some reason.) i've been playing that, no PSU for months.

What nonsense. PSO isn't THAT good. ALL the classic series are better than it is. And PSO lacks in a lot of departments.
To behave like it's the best in the series is nothing but nonsense. It's a Fan-Service game with no bearing. And it's even been admitted as such by Sega.

that's not saying much, since PSO had 0 character development. It was a well designed multiplayer mystery that worked out great. PSU is more of an online grindfest with a mediocre story with no real relation to the series.
I'd rather fantastic fanservice than mediocre followup, myself. Probably why I enjoyed ps0 so much. Beautiful game mechanics, and addictive gameplay.

I think PSU is a retelling of the story, which makes it it's own series. It's already had 3 stories in it's line and a 4th one on the horizon. And they are all tied into each other much like the original series tied into others in that series. It may not be related to the originals, but it is it's own series, so it doesn't have to be. And I wouldn't call it "Fantastic" fanservice to begin with. Good but not great. And I find PSO to be MUCH more of a grind than PSU.

It's it's own series; not Phantasy Star, but this new fangled "Phantasy Star Universe" that has nothing to do with Phantasy Star besides monomates, rappies, and some cameo items. So it's essentially IS a retelling of the original series, in a compressed form. Where they take many key elements from the stories and then give them a twist to keep it fresh. And add their own underlined theme. If you can't see that you're not really a fan of the series.

Having been so use to the much harder Dreamcast version, when I played it on the game cube the game got raped up and down from the moment I picked up the controller. And thats why it's a grind. Just doing the same mission over and over. PSU has so many missions you can pick out of that if you try them theres ALOT more to do. Hunting items wasn't all that exciting. I found making a drop chart more fun than getting rares. Cause most of the rares were lame. By the end I had everything and did

Yeah, if you spam one mission, every game is a grind. Why would you do that? Leveling is so easy. You should relax and enjoy the game instead of spamming one mission over and over, because there's actually more than one mission in PSO, whereas PSU, every mission is the same. Kill stuff, get reward.
As for the retelling thing, that just means that the game is totally unoriginal. Which is even more sad. :/

I don't spam one mission... I've played EVERY mission in PSO more times than can be counted. And I usually do a full game run per play session.
And no, theres not more kinds of enemies in PSO, PSO & PSU come out to about the same in that department.
And it's not TOTALLY unoriginal. They added some nastolgia in because they were good. But the story is deep enough it can stand on it's own feet WITHOUT those aspects, which is something PSO cannot do, because it doesnt really have a story at all

Little snipets of text from optional sources do not make a story, the hunters guild missions are those closest thing to a story you get. Which is lax to say the least. That game is one of the biggest grindfests in history. No ifs ands or buts, it's extremely limited in what you can do. The ammount of different stages and missions in PSU even today far exceeds the enterity of PSO. And they've actually had active competitive events, which is something PSO really didn't have at all.

I'm gonna disagree with you on that one too. It's story was alot deeper and more complicated than you give it credit for. Either you haven't played through the whole thing. Or you just don't know deep.
Final Fantasy Stories are C grade almost universally, PSU alone gets a B- or a B because of cliches and sappy parts, but all in all it was well executed.. But with the additional perspectives and lengthening of Episode 2, 3, and PS:P it gets boosted to B+ or A- range.

No, I've thought about it all and made ties to what I could. But PSO is incredibly weak. The whole Black Paper storyline was the best in it, and that is just a side story. Both the Rico logs and the story of Flowen were terrible stories. And that was the main vein. Flowen's story is probably a D, while Rico's is an absolute disgrace. A total failure.

And because the story was so weak, PSO, was nothing but a fan service grind-fest, where your biggest goals were to grind for experience or grind for weapons. Nothing but a fashion show for weapons and mags. Very few actual things to do. Most of the "Quest" stages werent even remixed. Most were just flat out the exact same 4 levels you run through doing forest to falz with very little variation to monster arrangment. And episode 2 missions were so few it's laughable.

If I'd had played it as intensely as I did in v1/2 and the first 2 years of Ep 1&2. I most likely would have 2 memory cards of lv 200s. I believe I enjoy it best when in the low low 100s though. Theres still some-what of a chance of death in ult at that point. Once you get to like 150-160 though thats all gone. I was addicted to PSO, and I loved it. But after not playing it for a good long time, I can see it's not nearly as good as I had thought way back then. I did play it recently though

about a month back I pulled all my low level characters up over 100. And out of all my weapons I've found (Which includes every item you can obtain) I think my best find was the 95% hit H&S Justice. Which eventually because of my fear of losing it to data loss went on to be mass duped. Hah, I trusted a duper when I didn't know how to dupe to make me a copy because he was supposivly a friend,. Then when I took a 2 month break it turned out there was a billion copies by the time I got back on.

Found by my purplenum Fomarl named Plum, cooincidently just before I stopped playing her, because my huneweral Jezzabelle benifited from them more. Found um in the VH ruins in a box of all places. Specificly that room with the hook shape, that starts off narrow, and has the purple gas. If I would have been more stubborn with it the tekker would have taken it to 100% because at 95% it didn't make the "Correct" sound. But 5% isnt that big of a loss, since it took so much meseta to get 95.

1: I played PSO back when BB was new. That's about it.
2: I have 101 complaints about the game.
3: I played PSU shortly after.
If I'm blinded by PSO fanboyism, then that's got to say something about it, since I've had just as much exposure to PSU. PSU is simple and shallow. It's pretty, and really, nothing beyond that.

PSU is in no way "Shallow" when compaired to PSO. There is ALOT more to do in PSU than there is in PSO. And the control/battle system is far better. The story is more detailed and in depth. PSU has more in every aspect except for PVP/Challenge mode. PVP is a loss, but C-mode really isn't.
And Tales are full blown offline games. PSO/PSU has always had a development split between Story and Online play, they are not really the same type of game as Tales.

Tales is closer to resembling games like dot-hack, and FF12. Which it is definently better than I couldn't even stand playing FF12 or any dot hack game all the way through even once. But I've played Tales of Destiny a good 3 times.
Theres not really alot of games like PSU or PSO, most games have a sort of traditional RPG thing going on. Even WOW, You have to have significant distance between you and the enemy for their attacks to not hit you at all. But in PSO/PSU you can simply avoid hits.

If you honestly think that, you haven't thought much about %s, specials, sphering, photon drops, and in ep4, black papers. There's a lot more to every weapon you get in PSO, and it makes a huge difference in how you play.
PSU has a better basic combat system, but that has nothing to do with depth. If anything, PSO's more archaic system has more depth for not allowing you to button-mash your way through it.

And in PSU there are %s, on both weapons and armor. And more than just 4. And when theres a % there is only one. Which forces you to strategicly choose your weaponry and armor. Armor on PSO is one size fits all with no real benifits other than the static set up. You can have weapons or armor from 1-50% in varying degrees. Plus there breakability of weapons now changed to downgraded max power which adds even more depth to the weapon system. Photon spheres are just for mass produced 100%s

Grinders with no failure rate produce no variation. And the fact you can have 2%s at 100% means you could essentially carry 2 weapons for all of PSO, reducing even further the thought that goes into it. And while it is true you can button mash and still live, you're not doing premium damage and thus playing the game poorly. The timing has been converted into a critical hit and counter system. Using the classic timing will yield stronger attacks, and it works with photon arts as well.

Plus theres counter attacks as well which also yield critical hits. All of these things require perfect timing. And the timing varys from weapon to weapon, adding more depth there. In PSO it was a 1 size fits all timing for all things only changing with battle units. The crutch of mags were removed and replaced with the PM system which allows you to forge weapons. And regarding on how it grew is what your PM is good at making. So theres a whole other varying % system you're also ignoring.

PSU has ALOT more depth than PSO, you just have failed to see it. Customizable clothing and rooms are another thing of depth. And while it started out sort of limited being a few squares inside a guardians HQ room, you now can place items how ever you like in a free plane with adequt space. You can even put your room on any of the planets. On top of that, the fact that there is Race+Class+Sex free of a static representation that allows you to become WHAT YOU WANT....

That adds even more depth to the statistical system. As each race has different stats, with different stats for each gender, and different stats for every job. Different weapon specialties too.
So thats a LARGE plain of depth that PSO doesn't have. PSO has set stats with limited fluxuation based on Materials. Which isn't all that much difference in the end unless you're a total newbie at making a mat diet. and have no desire to max your stats out as much as possible.

And as for "Specials" All those effects are still around in one form or another. Most are added effects in certain photon arts. Like Meseta Fury. Or the HP drain for additional damage. And every element has a special effect of it's own by defult which can be improved through training. Not being linked to specific weapons allows for flexability making the player able to set things in a more customized way, Especially in regards to bullets. Now some of the effects that could only happen to..

Yes they are elements, SIX of them. And I wouldn't say being able to add to the %s adds more depth. Because to me, it's just like cheating. And the Synthesis thing is fun. It's alot like using a blacksmith on Ragnarok Online. And elemental %s make a lot more sense than racially targeted %s. And having only ONE percent per weapon adds a greater level of balance to the game. You have to actually plan out what you intend to do and what you'll be fighting before you go in there to do peak damage.

And I never even mentioned adding %s... But, yeah, it does add depth, because it allows you to customise the weapon further after picking it up, and prepare it, with a lot of dedication. You can't just buy a sphere for 2000mes.

u can get this on ngc pso epsd1/2 and epsd 3 C.A.R.D 4 17 -27.99 its worth it though

My highest level character was a lv 168 FONEWEARL that had almost all level 30 technics with no hacked, modded, or item assistance from any other characters online, i was a strictly an "accept no gifts, or money" person, i only played with other legits and only used items i found or made myself, and my lv 200 mag was an Ila with 186 mind.
