  • Astie de caliss de tabarnak que c'est bon!

  • Awesome

  • I finally found this song because I could not recall the title. First heard it one afternoon while at work in Montreal in 1992 or so. Great melody.

  • I last him sing this in the early 1970's when the great "Ghost Writer" was followed by a tour. Great stuff!

  • You mean only us Montrealers know Spanish Town? It was one of the most beautiful songs of my childhood. We know good music, don't we!

  • come back tokyo japan waiting

  • I love rice,....but I never really cared for beans......

  • This song just chills me to the bone! AWESOME!

  • wow takes me back!

  • My dad used to listen to this song a lot when i was a kid. very good memory of him. (Live in Montréal too!)

  • Another former Montrealer here with fond memories of Spanishtown and CHOM, Im going to buy the album on ebay.

  • Someone please upload the proper version ( Not live version) Love this song

  • Wow is it ever hard to find...sounds like crap...Help

  • YES this is a Classic here in MOntreal

My car broke down in the middle of feburary, and this song came on. As cold as it was in my car, the CHOM played this song and its words and cool guitar kept us warm. thank you Garland for giving the world this wonderful peice of music. it always brings back fond memories

  • @StoneVoyage2 Montreal's always been avante garde regarding culture. A lot of bands came here long before they ever anywhere else in Canada (if they did), Another special connection was Shawn Phillips. He has a really strong following in Montreal.

The funniest thing I ever saw tho, was Petula Clark's CDs all filed under "French Canadian" at HMV!!! Ms Clark is obviously British, but it seems she did a lot of French variety TV shows in Quebec. Hmmm..maybe they should move Elvis' work.

  • Cannot find the album anywhere :( Such a good album... and such a nice song.... and yes, I come from Montreal LOLL !!

  • Could anyone post the studio version? I remember this song from CHOM....late 70's?

  • I'm amazed at all the Montrealers who posted here.... Count me as one of them (well, an ex-pat now in Ontario too) who has very found memories of this song.

  • @Frank431 very very hard to find

  • Thanks for this. Great memories.

  • haha, count me as another Montrealer. Thats where I heard this song, and fell in love with it

  • Great song...Heard it first in Quebec and brought it with me to Ontario...... Loved it

  • I've always dug this number especially, as I suspect, Jeffreys positions himself in it as "Don Juan."

  • cause we smoke alot of weed here in montreal...great mellow tune

  • Yey! 514 represent :)

  • This song is a classic here in Montreal.

  • I like to eat Montreal on a good homebaker bread

  • It really is!! do you know why? Chom plays it pretty often and they always say how it's a big hit here but I don't know why

  • It was a big hit in Mtl when it first came out back in the 70s. Lots of songs and artists were hits in Montreal back then, before they were known anywhere else outside their hometowns anyway. (Probably thanks to CHOM and even CKGM and CFOX before them.) Shawn Phillips comes to mind - BIG hit in Montreal in the 70s with SWWFHMATSITAYKILYBBIGTHTL. (LOL!) He made a special trip back here just a few years ago.

Hmmmm...maybe Garland Jeffreys would consider an appearance or three at PDA. ;-)

  • @retroolschool I agree :)

  • @retroolschool Yes, but where can we get the version that was played here in the '70s???
