  • At first, I didn't like the "Angry Young Man" part, but I grew to like it simply because it's what comes after the Prelude. I cannot get enough of the Prelude.

  • Billy Joel is indeed the Piano Man. Why can't today's music be like his? I don't understand it.. I don't want to here some idiot rap about having sex a million times. Honestly! Billy Joel is an amazing musician, I love him(:

  • submitted idiot

  • 22 people are "angry young men".

  • im going to shove my balls down your throat

  • My whole life is summed up by Billy Joel

  • @fastfoodclowns Elton John is a very good musician just as Billy Joel but, I do agree that Billy Joel is better.

  • He was still "angry" enough to raise money for Obama's presidential election run in 2008. Hypocrite.

  • @fastfoodclowns How does him raising money for Obama make Billy Joel, a lifelong avowed Democrat, a hypocrite?

  • @fastfoodclowns Blah blah blah, listen to the music god...

  • 'Anomymous' theme song.

  • liberty devito is a beast on the drums

  • This....is music. This is when it was all about complexity of the music itself and the lyrics and vocals were secondary. In order to hear ACTUAL MUSICAL TALENT. STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM POP MUSIC AND RIZE ABOVE TODAYS CRAP.

  • I bet my nuts Liberty needs to replace his cymbals after he plays this!!!

  • i love the drummer going freaking crazy in the background

  • Some of the most amazing piano playing I've ever witnessed. I keep coming back to hear that opening riff. Billy rocks!

  • My personal favorite thing about this song is how the lyrics really are so timeless- we all know at least one angry young man in our lives (if we aren't one).

  • I love the lyrics to this one. It must be fun to be able to play that intro, I as an inexperienced keyboardist simply can't get my hands alternating properly.

  • How Liberty survived the back beat on some of Billy's compositions is nothing short of miraculous.....ya hadda be there!

  • Ballad of Billy the Kid is a better example of fast hands...

  • 21 people wouldnt know true talent and good music if it puncheed them in the face...

  • @trekiebabe2 Though I'd be willing to watch Billy punch them in the face.

  • Great song, the drummer and the sax player who's singing that tight back up vocal are the bad asses in this tune!

  • I've been enjoying rocking out this song on Rock Band 3, totally incredible musicianship!

  • @VirtualMan007 what console? I have this song for the wii!

  • @VirtualMan007 I have the 64th highest score in the keyboard (not pro) leaderboards.

  • the fingers move too fast for the camera, just a blur of pixels! Anybody know what beat rate he's playing there? 32 or 64? Seems increedibly high to me!

  • @Zipper696969 Fast 32's...

  • I love long intros :)

  • This makes my eczema hurt

  • Six more of songs come to rock band 3 tue this is the one you will be able to play with the pro guitar.

  • This is old concert footage. Saw him & Elton John last year, his hands still move that fast. He is truly one of the greatest.

  • i doubt the uploader put this up at 240p quality.

what a travesty. Gold like this should be preserved at the highest quality!

instead youtube has gone all austerity on us - despite the billions they are raking in. All the classics are being downgraded to a paltry 240.

sad, considering it is we the people that made youtube with our generosity and goodwill. I suppose this comment will be removed... ho hum....

  • @nofizzed I realize your comment is 8 months old... However, I shall disregard this and reply anyway. The reason for the 240p video quality is indeed most likely to no fault of the uploader, but when you look at the date it was uploaded (January 2006) you have to bear in mind that Youtube used to have support only for 240p video. The real travesty is that in more than 5 years this hasn't broken a million views.

  • @nofizzed This is a 2006 video, though. Youtube hasn't had 360p and up for that long. It used to be hard to upload quality videos.

  • @nofizzed If you want it in good quality, just buy the VHS like I did. It's called "Billy Joel Live From Long Island". I was fortunate enough to find it at Savers for $1.

  • Btw. if you see the bandage on his hand, this was from that motorcycle accident he had. There was a thought he might never play again. WRONG! :>)

  • @houseof4doorsmc God like's to scare us sometimes.

  • No ? about voting this down. My decision is which version to play!..lol.

  • This song is 15 types of wonderful- defines my life story!

    THANK GOD FOR BILLY JOEL!!!

  • 17 people are angry young men.

  • superb tune from the master

  • why is the crowd just sitting there

  • that drummer just ruined this whole video for me.

  • Is that Jeff Pocaro on drums???? Looks alot like him

  • @SouthernOTS Liberty Devito

  • Recordando que hace tres años lo vi y con esto abrió dios no lo crees estar frente a Dios Billy Joel y todos con la boca abierta no todos lo dias vemos algo asi je je y claro yo soy el hombre joven enojado seee..

  • playing this at my funeral wouldn't be a bad idea either. i never thought of it.

  • I have put in my will that this is to be played ay my funeral,no speeches just Angry Old Man to describe my life. If it is not played I will be angrier still.Pure genius this.

  • @ dragonsder Autism does make people avoid social contact, you're lack of social contact is abundantly evident!

  • Well, you should see the doctor asap, cause whatever

social condition you obviously have, should be treated as

an emergency. I would hate to think of the danger some

loser freak like you could do in the local community!

  • @asifue100

You are so ignorant. People with epilepsy have seizures. Autism makes people resist any kind of social contact.

  • Billy, Liberty...shake hands and make up.

  • @DJFrederickHart Oh, God i hope they do.....HIs current band is all lounge act level...

  • this guy is on another planet.A legend

  • Billy Joel = best piano player ever

  • The drummer's great but he looks effin weird! What a spaz!

  • Jimmy Kimmel looks like Billy here

  • billy needs to stop marrying girls in their 20s, ............he also needs to shave thats stupid goatee and lose weight ...............and he needs to start writing new shit...............and he needs to stop being such a drunken load

  • @zimmcat This comment was funny as Sh*!

Just had to tell you I lauged so hard!

  • @zimmcat He is writing stuff, idiot, its called instrumental music. He just doesn't perform any more, get the facts.

  • What an absolute legend. All hail Billy Joel!! :D

  • omg i wish i could play the piano like that. man billy is awsome

  • Todays bands can't hang with this. Electronic, hip hop, metal, indie, nothing. Poorly trained, unmelodic dull shit.

  • Genius!

  • I must like this more everytime i listen to it.

  • I can play the piano portion of this

  • Yeah the drummer is brilliant, bradley - Liberty DeVito - or rather he was. For some strange reason, Billy 'let him go' some years back after over 30 years together. Stupid decision IMHO. The sax/vocalist, Mark Rivera, is also brilliant and also has been with Billy many years now. I just love the way he plays the pipe on Allentown. :D

  • @Mancunian6 I believe it was a money issue. True Liberty is a great drummer. He made me start playing when I was 11 with this very song! It was 1984 and he was touring, they played his gig on BBC1 and I was mesmerised with his drumming. From that point, I didn't want to have friends in the normal 11 year old sense, just a drum kit and some mates that could play guitars and bass.

  • Love the drummer!!

  • billy joel & bruce springsteen. who is the better performer?

  • Never have tennis shoes looked so good with a tie.

  • My band director recently arranged this for the mallet percussion. It sounds awesomeee great song!

  • @eastiegonewestie I bet this would sound amazing on mallets!

  • @smpaudio It does sound great! :D The piece our teacher put together combines both Prelude/Angry Young Man and Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. All on marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone. It'll be a good concert!

  • elton john+billy joel=badass

  • Elton John wishes he could write and perform a song this good! ha, ha!!!

  • @fastfoodclowns lmao true very true

  • @fastfoodclowns The piano part at the start isn't all that difficult.

  • You are stupid. Both are the greatest in the world, why to despise Elton?

  • @fastfoodclowns

OH your are stupid. Elton is one of the greatest in the history.

  • one of my favorite billy joel songs. really cool performance

  • I remember watching this on VHS when I was a toddler!! Liberty Divita is the reason I became a rock drummer.

  • @scarsunseen24 Yeah he is one of my main influences in my drum playing

  • 1:04 is such a show-off.. :)

  • Such an amazing song and an amazing artist. long live the Joel!

  • 1:36 love it when this kicks in

  • Me too; possibly the best part of the prelude!

  • WOW!!!

  • That was such an awesome performance! It would be interesting to see Elton John cover this song.

  • amazing!!!

  • The Song is GREAT!

Next time you watch it, just watch the Drummer! (Liberty Devitto)

  • Billy is the best pinao player in the world EVER!!

  • at least way better than elton john hehehe

  • how awesome would it be to be billy joel up on the stage. just imagine to yourself. eventually a grin will come. :)

    5 stars for fast fingers

  • @ThePancakeSquad agreed 100%

  • @ThePancakeSquad a grin would come if i could even come close to playing this song on the piano.

  • I'm surprised that a Baldwin could rebound fast enough for Billy to play this. A slow-rebounding piano is the worst enemy of anyone who tries to play this song.

  • no kidding...

  • AT 4:42 HMMM MISSED IT

  • Liberty is such an awesome drummer

  • he has myspace! he'll add you as a friend

  • agreed

  • i dont know anything about playing piano, but that line he did at 4:42 with one hand behind his back was bad ass.

  • Even without all the good songs & great band, Billy is a badass player.

  • the piano at the begining is awsome its like the worlds fastest paino player ever

    ***** 5 stars for sure

  • whoever rated this down is an asshole.

  • I agree, norris!

  • @AngryNorris I agree....love this version of this song, I remember when HBO first played this concert

  • @AngryNorris your comment or the song? :D

I rate you down because I am an asshole.. song rocks though

  • @AngryNorris ROTFL

  • @AngryNorris for they are not angry young men

  • @AngryNorris my guess it was an angry young man...

  • Ok, thanks for the information.

  • Is that Jeff Porcaro (ToTo) on drums?.

  • No, it's Liberty Devitto.

  • Liberty DeVitto,they kindof look a like

  • first time i heard this song my face was like -_- then it started playing and i was like :O ha. its amazing at the beginning, well through the whole thingg.

  • The scary thing is, he could play that 3 times faster than what he's doing there :O

  • ... and 4 times when sober!

  • This along with 'Miami 2017' has to be one of his best live songs, yet did little otherwise. Shame. But they really are two cracking tunes live.

  • Love the one handed playing he's just showing off lol. Class act, class song.

  • the greatest ever?

  • Über!

  • BRING BACK LIBERTY!!!!!

  • Billy's got fingers of fury !!!!!

  • Every show of his that I have seen (15 since 1982) opens with this tune...what a great song to kick off a concert. I hope he settles his dispute with drummer Liberty DeVito who's one interesting character behind his kit.

  • i went to the Billy Joel and Elton John Face 2 Face tour a couple days ago and when Billy came out and played this song i was completely amazed, im a piano player and this stuff is not easyy

  • My sister went to that! She said it was amazing.

  • I am not a piano player myself but people I know who play piano say that it isn't hard to play(like the amount of notes) but the pace at which he plays it makes it so difficult. P.S. Did you see him in Philadelphia?

  • Well, in retrospect, since when has a 32nd note series been even remotely easy on any instrument other than drums? LOL On piano? Wow!

  • he is the real piano man...no other..

  • I was supposed to be at a show he was doing in Buffalo tonight as part of his tour with Elton John. I found out early today it was canceled. Apparently Billy is sick. It's going to be rescheduled, but still, I've been waiting for this show since march. sigh...

  • Wow. I remember when he played this song in the concert I went to last Thursday. I was just watching his hands and i was thinking "Holy crap! How on earth does he move his hands that fast!" and I was just amazed. I play piano, but I know I could never play it as well Billy Joel or Elton John, or quite as fast. This is a great song too.

  • when is this coming to dvd?

  • 0:44 - so cocky but so talented

  • it aint braggin if you can do it- diz

  • lighten up bitch

  • Billy Joel is a really good pianist! The theme for my marching band is the Emotions of Billy Joel. The songs that we are doing is Pressure, Lullaby, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, Angry Young Man, and We Didn't Start the Fire.

  • "Captain Jack" was our Graduating Hi-gh School Song!"

  • Holy Shiite Muslem.....William Martin Joel is GOD!! That's it and thats all....HALLELUJAH WILLIAM!!

  • I love this song! It gives me chills!

  • Omfg! Look at his hands! If you weren't hearing the damn notes you'd think we was just banging the keys at random! His hands are moving so damn fuckin fast!!!

    THAT'S FUCKIN TALENT!!!!!

  • How does he do it!!!!!

  • 1:36 is so hot.

  • This. Is. Awsome.

  • Amazing.

  • Woot, somebody else who really likes the Baldwin piano!

  • just saw him and elton john in concert it was AWESOME

  • Was that in Oakland?

  • i saw them in indianapolis on tuesday...freakin sweet. I thought EJ was a little less than what i expected because he now sings in a much lower key, but Billy Joel sounds just like he did 30 years ago

  • it was in minneapolis and i too thought billy was a little better than EJ but they were both great

  • no, I'm pretty sure I was in Indianapolis when I saw them last tuesday. seing as how I live in Indiana not minnesota

  • I was too at the show in Indy AWESOME

  • i was saying I saw them in MN

  • This reminds of of the song "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant."

  • ? what

  • "I believe Ive passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage

I found that just surviving was a noble fight."

I love this line. So brutally honest, so wise.

  • WOW!!! This is like the "Through the Fire and Flames" of piano. I mean he does the intro so fast :0

  • please do not compare this song to that dragonforce shit

  • exactly. thats not even real the opening to that song was COMPUTER GENERATED todays music is shit except for a select few songs

  • Is "dragonforce" even worth talking about? They're a fling, Billy Joel is timeless.

  • the fuckin gay name says all about the band

    I mean dragonforce.. come on

  • lol to u go to pat-med

  • dude billy's gonna go to heaven with a piano and he's gonna play for god.

  • true that :)

  • i'm gonna be him someday

  • WTF are you freaks talking about!?!?! This is called a LIVE PERFORMANCE. They were as tight and synchronized as anyone could be playing this kind of material: fast tempo, fast playing, changes in the time signature, and a long multi-part arrangement. Liberty and Billy were both at the top of the game as musicians. Your comments prove that you don't play music. You are ignorant. It's that simple.

  • what he said

  • God damn you are right. I'm a lapsed musician, but I can say I've heard very few live performances as tight and clean as this one. Aside from the background noise, you could be fooled into thinking this was a studio recording.

  • Billy has the problem and Liberty just wanted to help him.

  • His name is Liberty D´vito but he is not playing with him anymore ( alcohol problems) not him, billy is!

  • so billy has the alcohol problems or the drummer
