thanks so much for posting this blue, i finally got a teddy ruxpin but it has no battery cover and the owner doesn't know if it works, hopefully it will work. but hopefully the eyes and mouth will be the only problem...
I understand that the 'sticking motors' problem doesn't effect later versions of Teddy Ruxpin, clearly it's related to the way the motors were made and how they were lubricated at the factory. What about the motor that drives the tape deck, do you know if they are also prone to ceasing up?
@Lachlant1984 I've never encountered a Teddy with a stuck cassette motor before, only a slow one, like with my Mickey...
Usually those gear/pulley band motors, like what's in the heads of the Yes! and Playskool bears, just dry rot or lose their strength before there's a chance for the fluid in the motor itself to dry up, causing it to stick. They're both really poor systems, and don't tend to last very long if they're not worked properly.
@blueoctopede Do you think there could be dried grease or something in there? I'm not an expert on toy motors, but my dad knows alot about motors in genral, and my grandpa take apart cheap little motor toys (Like those little fans and stuff, nothing big) and makes different things out of it and so they've told me different things about it. Hmm. I'll try and help you with it if you till haven't figured it out.
@Twilight101cp I'm no expert on electric motors either, but as I understand from what I've read what happens is that over time the grease in the motors will migrate onto a part of the motor known as the commutator, this causes the motors to stop moving, I don't understand why that is, butg that's what I've read, of course I may have been mislead by that information Dr Eeypre's website has lots of info about repairing Teddy Ruxpin.
So the WOW Teddy Ruxpin has 4 screws holding it together, but the Yes Entertainment version has 6 screws on the back panel and no screws in the tape deck, even if it did they would be impossible to get at because the door has very limited opening and doesn't open very far.
I don't mean to be rude of insulting, but can I offer some advice? I noticed in these 3 videos that you're wearing green nail-polish, you want to take good care when working on the circuit boards if you're wearing that stuff, you'd do well to wear gloved if you're working on the circuit board to prevent your nail-polish from flaking off onto the circuit board. If it flakes off it may stick to a cnnecting point or solder track. This could potentially cause a lot of damage to the circuit board.
@blueoctopede I just thought I should warn you of that, clarly it didn't happen for you, but it could if you're not careful. Being a guy I'm of course not one bit interested in things such as nail-polish for obvious reasons, but I was thinking more of the practicle side of things here. If something like nail-polish flakes onto the circuit board, DO NOT under any circumstances use nail-polish remover, that will do even further damage and destroy the circuit board.
@Twilight101cp I'm probably not the best person to ask as I don't really know the exact ins and outs, but you may be able to remove the offending substance with some electronic component cleaner or perhaps distilled water or isopropyl alcohol, I can't give you a definitive answer, someone who knows more about circuit board repairs should be able to answer you better and correctly.
wait.. if that's you using the drill...who's holding the camera?

@blueoctopede I'm still not 100% sure what's causing Mickey's problem, either.

@Lachlant1984 Actually I was wrong, there aren't 6 screws holding the Yes bear together, there are in fact 8.
