Wow.. nao vejo a hora de assistir, Kate Winslet uma das melhores atrizes da atualidade, acabou de ganhar o Emmy por essa mini-serie! HBO incrivel como sempre!!!
My Opinion: Who care's about who looks older to be a mother or their real life age gaps. The truth of the matter is they are fictional characters who act it really well, clearly most people missed the message being promoted. Evidently, some of this show's audiences (what i have read here) are considering it to be fact by comparing the actor/actress to their real life characters. Anyway, i watched the complete series today and i thought it was fantastic, really good story line we can relate to.
Kate doesn't look old enough as the mother, or the daughter doesn't look young enough to be Kate's daughter! Not convincing. ;-) What happened? Kate is a great actor here though.
and yet again hbo proved itself to be one of the best tv brodcasters out there. after the terrific 'Angels in America' few years back we can now watch Winslet and Leo together - Amazing
I never read the book, the Joan Crawford film is a masterpiece of epic proportions. This mini series was terrible, the ending was awful, it really was.
This series was so beautiful and wonderful; it made me cry, laugh, and wonder about my own mother's strives at giving her children everything they wanted. One of the best mini-series of all time!!!
@watha2020 I watched until she went to bed with Wally which didn't happen in the first Mildred Pierce and then turned it off. Jesus, her husband JUST LEFT. They just couldn't leave the damn sex out. Well, I thought I'd give it another chance, turned it back on and here she is in the beginning of the depression, who's husband just left her to raise 2 children alone, just the day before she's counting change in the market and now she's eating a sandwich in a resturant and then I turned it off.
The original Mildred Pierce played by Joan Crawford Is probably one of Hollywoods Best movies ever made. Kate Winslet should feel honored to even play a Joan Crawford role. Doesn't anyone realize were all good talent came from? It comes from these so called old movies played on TCM. Movies that most people couldn't care a less to watch anymore. That's were talent lies my friends.
KelleyGreen5555, Mildred Pierce is hardly "an old lady role." Kate Winslet and Melissa Leo are not old ladies. They can play "old ladies" on screen and in the theatre, but they can also play swinging sexy chicks! Did you see Kate in The Reader? Did you see Melissa in "The Three Buerials" where she starred as a married woman who had an affair with everybody in town, including Tommy Lee Jones and Dwight Yokum? Thyy can both play a woman of any age. They will both be around for a long time.
Melissa Leo and Kate Winslet give outstanding performances in the HBO production of Mildred Pierce. They should both form a partnership and make many movies together. Just as we have a "Joan and Melissa Show" on Television, HBO should produce the "Kate and Melissa Show." Since Kate and Melissa are both famous for using "language that would make a sailor blush," only one of the premium cable channels could carry the show. HBO should move fast on this project!
I love the original '45 version and refuse to consider anything topping it, but I was surprised how different from the book it was. I would be interested to see if this is more close to the book, and it looks like it is, which does not always make it better, it would just be interesting to see.
@edwardjames50 they did a good job with the Temple Grandin story last year so it's not like HBO is running out of ideas. Plus it was a book before it was a movie in 1945, so even the "original" movie isnt even original. I dont call this a remake.
I'm psyched for this to come out. Kate is such a phenomenal actress and I love the 1945 version but this is gonna be more true to the book! She's truly one of our most talented actresses now, and every film/mini-series she does is simply gold. Even back to her first and last mini-series Dark Season.
Interesting that HBO chose to option this drama. They usually go for programs that have strong doses of sex, strong language and controversial topics not usually covered on network television.....
This seems very much like a throwback to the glamorous melodrama period of old Hollywood (circa 40's & 50's). The style, setting, characters and storyline. It will be interesting to see what this creative team does with this project.......
On a similar note, Mildred Pierce was made for Joan Crawford and Ann Blyth. The problem with today's actors/actresses is that they rely too much on technology, special effects, modern cliches (sex, nudity, violence, cussing) and substanceless dialogue (I can't stand insert laughter, especially when the dialogue is so crappy). Not to mention some of them are completely stiff and unemotional (Kristen Stewart) and are only in movies because they're pretty (Paris Hilton).
This looks like a very bad remake. Winslet won't be able to pull this off nor anyone else. It's all too modern. You can't recaputre the essence of classic films because we are no longer living in the 40's and 50's. It's best to leave them alone. Let them continue to be symbols of classical Hollywood instead of creating some new modern version that ruins its iconic stature.
@chilvari: Are you serious? As much of a grande dame of the cinema as Crawford was, she was never much of an actress. Sure, she was solid in roles that closely followed the beats of her own life, but Kate Winslet can act circles about Miss. Joan. This is a re-imagining/remake I can get behind....Todd Haynes, Kate Winslet, Guy Pearce, Ean Rachel Wood?? This is made of win...
@tommyburgos I see Mildred Pierce as a classical piece of work. The remake will not have the same effect (even if I didn't watch the original and went straight for the remake, I can assure you that my emotions and reactions wouldn't be even remotely similar). I have nothing against Kate Winslet. I like her as an actress too. The problem I have with the miniseries mainly lies within the settling and storyline (and smaller things like dialogue and character portrayal).
@KellyGreen5555 "Poor Winslet now accepting old lady roles"? Maybe she wanted to play a character with depth and soul, regardless of age, not clinging to the vapid philosophy that women have a sell-by date before they are "poor old ladies".
@KellyGreen5555 But why does that make her "Poor Winslet"? Why not "Lucky Winslet" for getting to play a character well beyond her years, with lots of depth? There seems to be a direct correlation with age and negativity in the judgment of "Poor Winslet"?
@KellyGreen5555 I can agree with that. There certainly is a pitiful abundance of flat female characters, and a strikingly small amount of anything with meat.
@KellyGreen5555 a actrees has to become in any person that the job demand. Remember to Emma watson being mother in the finale of harry potter, so it is more adsurd, so you dont know what youa re talking about
