man, I really miss these ads. Brings back a lot of memories. I literally started crying when I saw this because it hit me like ton of brick and brought back so many memories of the 80s. Where have the times gone? Now, these types of ads would be banned and today, kids are not even allowed to be kids let alone have an imagination.
@euro4569 Where have all the times gone? They've been handed over to the automobile and pharmaceutical companies. The thing I want to bring back is the importance of the jingle. Or even when the commercials had nothing but singing throughout the ad. Like Big Red, Extra, Juicy Fruit, and Wrigley's. All gum ads, I know, but they prove my point. They all had jingles and that's what consumers remember is that catchy little tune and they buy it. That's not around today.
Those roller-skating girls appearing in the Starburst commercial were likely teenagers when it was taped back in 1986. They're probably in their 40s now - if not, definitely very close.
These ads bring back memories from junior high. And that "illegal substance" must be "sugar rush", right?
I agree that commercials like these would not fly today. If Saturday morning cartoons were still in existence today, I think they should be commercial free without advertisements that fuel obsession to candy, fast food, toys, bad cereals, or especially video game consoles.
At least Raisin Bran is more healthy than Starburst fruit chews or the Hubba Bubba, Juicy Fruit, Bubbilicious, or Hershey bars.
