I was watching from inside the upper floor of a house, and the bear wandered around the front garden. It's absolutely never recommended to go within 100 metres of a bear on foot. A lot of people do, especially in the mountain parks, and either displace bears or get them so habituated to food that Parks Canada ends up shooting them :-(
