He is incorrect about stopped back far enough to see back tires. If you were to get hit from the rear and were far enough back, you don't accelerate instantly, but over a short period of time. If you stop farther back, you would have accelerated more and hit the car in front of you harder causing more damage and risking your safety even more. Stop no more than 2 feet behind the vehicle in front. This keeps you safer in modern cars with crumple zones.

@sk863cuz Do you even have a drivers license? You should never let the wheel go and let the car turn itself. If theres any road debris(dirt, rocks, snow) or even a puddle of water it will throw your steering out and you could lose control.

uh, mrrodney said u have to do it for the test, but afterwards you don't if you adjust ur mirrors right, and for large long trucks or trailers, like shipping trucks, you can't look over shoulder.

@TVcompFrEaK Yes because there trucks aren't 6 feet long like some cars and there mirrors are 4 feet infront of them. If you drive and don't check your blind sooner or later your going to ram someone of the road and your the one who will be in the wrong.

you may have to do a shoulder check for a test but I am sure this Old Man prob has learned to adjust his mirrors as all of us professional drivers ( paid ) have. in you right mirror you should be able to see 2 lanes beside you and same with the right. if you see the same thing in you side mirrors you see in the rear view mirror then they are not adjusted right. How many limo drivers do an over the shoulder check? prob none. How about bus drivers? prob none. Learn to adjust your mirrors properly.
