  • And yet we question when something goes wrong but when last did you pray and show reverence to Our Mighty God, Jesus Christ.

  • @Loredana21584 About 30 years ago - the same time I started taking responsibility for my actions and stopped blaming an imaginary friend for all my misfortunes.

  • We can all go on about our imperfect bodies, but don't forget we live in a fallen world. The sun rises and sets everyday, the world revolves around its axis and is placed in the correct distance from the sun so that we do not burn or freeze. This tells me there is a mighty Hand controlling it all. We talk about what has gone wrong with our bodies but yet we wake up everyday and take for granted that gravity (which no one can explain) keeps us rooted to the ground.

  • @Loredana21584 Surely gravity is explained pretty well by garvitational theory. And you do realise the sun neither rises nor sets, but that the earth rotates. The earth also has an irregular orbit so that it periodically moves closer to, then away from the sun. There is no 'correct' distance from the sun.The earth's climate has gone through periods of higher temperatures and lower temperatures. Such things are well understood by science.

  • @Loredana21584 Wait, so you say, "We MUST be designed because we're perfect." Someone says, "But we're not perfect," to which you say, "Because we live in a fallen world." You can't have it both ways. Either we are perfect or we aren't. Now, a couple of things: 1. Thinking a humanoid must've designed something just because it's complex is naive and childlike. 2. So a person's body has a horrible genetic disease, as punishment for something he had no part in? Who would be persuaded by this?

  • @loredana21584 - if you want to assert "design" you have to explain everything, not just the bits you think look nice.

You arent even aware of the fact that if a human architect designed a body it would have been rejected due to all the nonsensical design. - evolution however, explains everything.

  • Shame have Ricky Gervais run out of material that he has to pick the bible apart. Look at your body and see how well engineered you are and then fall to your knees and pay respect to the God that made such an ingenious machine.

  • @Loredana21584 If our bodies are perfectly, immaculately designed, why do we have appendices, tailbones, and blind spots in our eyes?

  • @Loredana21584 yeah tell that to my diabetic pancreas lolz. "God made you perfectly.... unable to process sugar! Praize Haim!" ....Yeah! ......Wait he did what?

  • @warangel87 shit I should be able to fuckin grow back limbs by that logic- other creatures can! "Yeah Ima make him like me but show him animals that can jump higher and run faster than him to remind him of how perfect he is :D... what? What does he care he's made of dirt I blew on he's not gonna see that as contradictory! ooh ooh! Hey you guys you guys! Lets like totally give him free will and say that the direct and indirect effects of that are his fault too! ... :D epic right?"

  • @Loredana21584 stop being a retard.

  • God wants people to worship him......why does he make atheists?

  • guys, belief or not, hes a comedian and makes people laugh, I don't see how this would make anybody angry as its harmless jokes.

  • What happened to part 1?

  • this is great stuff

  • Adam, Eve, Abraham, Noah, Jacob, David, Solomon, Joseph & Moses are fictional.

  • @karezza6 really?

  • @magicelliotth

Jesus & Buddha were real but Krishna was a mushroom.

  • @karezza6 I see

  • @magicelliotth

I think the Jews stole their myths from the Egyptians and the Babylonians.

  • @karezza6 how interesting

  • @karezza6 this is ridiculous, a jew would never steal anything

  • @karezza6 Jesus and Buddha are historically questionable too.

  • why doesnt everyone just enjoy the video and stop arguing!!!!

  • no place for religion anymore,, read a science book,, try to be a good person that should be your religion,, unless god rocks up anytime soon whats the point??

  • @theboytorres2011 why being a "good" person should be better than just doing what you want whenever you wanted? there is no God no rules, no laws, no losses, all die so the game is up for grabs

  • @anthonycotillo Try reading some ethics-oriented philosophy one day. You would be surprised how complex and beautiful a moral code can be deduced from the simple statement "I want to exist".

  • @Kabitu1 true, but your moral code or your deduction is made for you, not for me, i have my own moral code, and also that personally is not my view of life i was just simply asking the question that i think is important to answer or more apropriately that every man should answer for himself, If there is no God, how men should behave? but i aprecciate your answer

  • @anthonycotillo You where inferring that no moral reasoning could exist without a god.

    It can.

  • @anthonycotillo So your only reason for doing good is because you're afraid you'll be punished by god? I do good because I am a social animal and society wouldn't function if we all behaved entirely selfishly. I have to love my life surrounded by other people. I don't want my neighbours robbing or killing me, so I won't rob or kill them. My morality is a form of social contract. Biblical morality is intrinsically immoral and repugnant.

  • Laughed so much at the snake thing!!!!

OMG!! He's in that anti-religion movie, 'The Invention of Lying'!!!

  • Has he always worn shirts like that?

  • what happened to part one and the other video which was just the whole thing -.-

  • really when you think about it you dont have to believe in religion to believe in god cause really relgion is amanmade form of worshiping god but with all honesty no man has ever seen god or talked to him even though lots say lol which i doubt so i guess we will find out when we die lol so im not saying i dont respect other religions i do ofcourse everyone has a right o believe in whatever they want or not to belive i think we should all stop pointing fingers sayin whos more intelligent itsbs

  • @crisis101able must have sucked! I was only asking because I thought it had something to do with it being Catholic

  • @crisis101able I go to a Catholic school to ve honest it's pretty good. The kids are really respectful and that's a lot for a school in east London. What was the matter with yours?

  • @AnahSkywalker The studetns took it as a joke and majortiy of them didnt even wanna be there. The students @ my high school were awaful...we swear, never listened, talked back, cheat...and half the time the teachers just lets us get away wirh it.

  • You still havent given me evidence of why evolution is true.I have given you evidence. There must be an eternal being(God) who created everything. Why did they find tissue and blood cells in a taridactill(not correct spelling) wing? According to evolution dinosaurs died out millions of years ago. But (according to the Bible) the earth is only about 6000 years old. It is impossible if taridactills died out millions of years ago that there would still be blood and tissue cells.

  • @GuitarGage870 The claim that there are still blood and tissue cells from dinosaurs is creationist propanganda junk. It's a lie the creationists made up to try and discredit evolution in order to protect their own ridiculous beliefs. And there is tons of evidence for evolution. Evolution is a fact. The theory of evolution refers to how it works, the same way the theory of gravity refers to how the fact of gravity works.

  • @GuitarGage870 What insane reasoning! Evolution is NOT true, because it contradicts the drivel written by dozens of authors over 2500 years in a book which claims the Earth is only 6000 years old? You then cap it with a claim that blood and tissue cells must be able to last millions of years, because if they do not, then that proves that evolution is wrong!!! You are so mixed up that you are hilarious to read. Keep posting, we love the entertainment!

  • God's thoughts are not our thoughts. Who are we to try and put ourselves in the place of God or understand his will? We can't fully understand the will of a perfect, Holy God because we are neither perfect nor Holy.

  • where can I see part one?

  • Brilliant sceptical observations by Gervais. For more like this try John w. Loftus, Robert M Price, Ken Humphreys, Dan Barker, Victor Stenger, Valerie Tarico, Bart Ehrman, Richard Carrier, Keith Parsons, Tentmaker 777, Earl Doherty, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Joseph Wheless, Thomas Paine, Mark Twain, Dennis McKinsey, Robert Ingersol, Truth-saves, For humanity's shared moral core try wisdomcommons. I have faith in the Golden rule. I think there is no supernatural realm.

  • The snake probably had legs before the curse, that's why it was considered a curse. People are so illogical. Obviously now the snake crawls on his belly because that was part of the curse. If snakes didn't crawl on their bellies now then that would mean that scripture isn't true, which it is. Think on that smarty! LOL

  • @GuitarGage870 The scripture is not true, the bible is primitive, moronic drivel. Your obviously an American.

    Fucking idiot

  • @ScottishCaledonian What proof do you have that the Bible isn't true other than I'm an American and you want to f*** me? You don't make a very good argument and all you do is simply rage and make fallacies in your responsive comment.

  • The snake didn't "mess up" everything. Remember that it was Satan taking on the form of a snake, not an actual snake. He would know that if he truly understood the word of God. Because of satan's pride, God punished Satan by casting him out of heaven. God also chose to put a curse on the snake because of his image. Though it sound's almost as crazy as whales evolving from wolves, snakes may have also talked or Eve wasn't afraid of a "talking" snake because of her innocence.

  • @GuitarGage870 Whales did not evolve from wolves. And you sound like a creationist moron.

  • Once again you have no proof against the Bible. I'm sorry, I said that whales evolved from wolves because that's what some evolutionists teach (some teach that whales evolved from hippos or polar bears. That's just some of many theories. Just because I'm a creationist moron doesn't somehow prove me wrong. You must find some evidence other than you don't like me because I'm a creationist. Calling me a moron or a f***ing idiot assures me that you evolutionists don't know what your talking about.

  • @GuitarGage870 Evolutionists do not teach that whales evolved from wolves. Whales come from a distant ancestor who were land dwelling mammals, whales did not evolve from hippos or polar bears. And the bible is not proof of gods existance.

Your a christian, creationist simpleton and you deserve to be mocked for your stupid religion and stupid beliefs

  • @ScottishCaledonian Then what exactly did whales evolve from? Oh that's right, you don't know because they never found 1 missing link... My bad. Why is the Bible not proof of God's existence? Oh that's right you don't know because you've never read it before... My bad. Once again... No proof!

  • @GuitarGage870 There are many transiational fossils. Animals do not evolve from one species into a completely different species, it is incremental changes spanning hundreds of thouands to millions of years, you cleaerly do not even have a basic understanding of evolution.

Transitional cetaceans fossils in chronolgical order - Ambulocetus natans, Pakicetus, Ambulocetus, Kutchicetus, Protocetus, Rodhocetus, Basilosaurus, Dorudon, Squalodon, Cetotherium

  • @GuitarGage870 I have read the bible and the burden of proof is on you to prove gods existance.

  • Would it not be common sense that there must be an eternal being(God). Everything has a beginning but clearly something (God) would have to be eternal. If everything in this world had a beginning than nothing would be in existence. There must be an eternal being. If there isn't an eternal being that created the universe than how would the universe have begun? And don't say the big bang because even it would have to have a beginning. God is eternal, He has no beginning nor end.

  • @GuitarGage870 Why does it have to be a being ? If that Being is eternal then who created that being. Also, according to quantum mechanics, it is likely that there are more than one universes other than our own, contantly popping in and out of existance.

  • Like I said, God wasn't created by anything. He is eternal (definition:always existing). And like I said, if everything had a beginning, than nothing would exist. For example, you said that this being would have to have been created by something before. If that were the case then the being who created the being had to have been created by another being who must have been created by another being. See what I mean, it would go on for, well eternity. Therefore, there must be an eternal being.

  • And as for the universes popping in and out of existence, God could very well cause these. After all, if you believe in the God of the Bible, wouldn't you also believe that it is God who made the laws of science and therefore is in control of everything. And scientists still don't know if these universes really do pop in and out of existence. Again, I'm not exactly sure how unknown universes popping in and out of existence is proof to refute the existence of God. (see other comment:)

  • @GuitarGage870 I am not providing proof to refute the existance of god, WI cannot prove that good does not exist, the same way I cannot prove that Thor, bigfoot or unicrons and fairies exist, The burden of proof is on you to prove god exists.

  • @ScottishCaledonian If you can't refute the existence of God, then why do you not believe in him? Do you have any evidence that evolution is a true theory? That's right... evolution is still considered a theory to many scientists though it is accepted by some. Even if it is accepted by many doesn't make it true. For example, hundreds of years ago, probably every man accepted that the earth was flat and not round because they had never been to space. The burden is on you to prove evolution.

  • @GuitarGage870 Evolution is a theory the same way that relitivity is a theory or gravity is a theory, learn the definition of theory. And I cannot disprove the existance of unicorns and fairies so by your logic, because I cannot disprove the existance of fairies then I should believe in them too ?

  • I know the definition of theory. Did I say you should believe in fairies or unicorns? No. My point is you still havent given me any evidence that God doesnt exist so why call someone a f***ing idiot if you dont have any proof that what they believe in isnt real. You havent even given me evidence that evolution is true so why should I believe in someone who cant even defend their beliefs or prove others beliefs wrong. The only thing we've established so far is that you think I'm a f**ing idiot.

  • @GuitarGage870 FOR THE FIFTH TIME ..... I cannot disprvoe Gods existance, the sam way I cannot disprove Unicorns, leprachauns or fairies. The burden of proof is on YOU to prove that god exists. It is not on me to disprove him.

I cannot disprove that the Spaghetti flying monster exists, so by your logic I should believe in the flying spaghetti monster.

  • @GuitarGage870 I cannot disprove the existance of fairies so by your logic I should believe in them ? And evolution is a theory the same way gravity is a theory and relativity is a theory. Learn the definition of theory

  • @GuitarGage870 So, your arguement is that because we CAN'T refute the existence of God, then we must believe in him? How stupid are you? I cannot refute the existence of the Tooth Fairy and the Eater Bunny. Does that mean I must believe in their existence - despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary?

  • @GuitarGage870 . . . Just because I'm a creationist moron doesn't somehow prove me wrong . . .

True, but it does prove you are a moron by your own admission!. It is far more likely that a whale evolved from a polar bear (??!!) than that you are descended from a lump of clay which then shagged one of its own ribs!

BTW, who did Cain f#%k to procreate the rest of humanity? Was he the Original motherf#%ker? Maybe that was the Original Sin!

  • @pretjim2011 Cain probably had babies with his sisters. Remember that Adam lived to be very old so he and Eve had MANY children. Our genes were nearly perfect back then so there would have been no concern for Cain's children to have 6 fingers. No it wasn't the original sin. The original sin was committed by Lucifer, remember? No you probably don't because you probably never read the Bible. What did whales evolve from then?

  • @GuitarGage870 FYI, I have read the Bible from cover to cover, Old and New Testament, including the original Catholic version and the Protestant 'Christian' version! I do not recall any mention of 'nearly perfect' genes in either of the books. So we started from incest - the Bible SAYS so!

Whales evolved from earlier mammals who lived on land. We are mammals and at some level we are related to whales and all other mammals - in fact ALL other living things, including plants, etc.

  • @pretjim2011 "True, but it does prove you are a moron by your own admission!" You know what that's called? An ad hominem attack. It's a kind of logical fallacy and is considered a flaw in a person's thinking. Neat isn't it?

  • @GuitarGage870 By the same token then, you must believe that anyone who does not believe in what you believe, must have flawed thinking. I think everyone would agree that YOU are the one with the flawed thinking. Your 'arguments' are so flawed that they sound like the rantings of someone with serious paranoid tendencies. You're not contemplating a jihad on us, are you?

  • @pretjim2011 We weren't descended from clay. The Bible says dust, not clay. And the Bible could be talking about the quality of life which forms his soul, not what the physical components.

  • @GuitarGage870 I meant to say,"not the physical components."

  • @GuitarGage870 Wet dust and you get clay! Actually, we are descended from dust; ancient star dust. But, alas, you do not believe in that, do you, because your Universe is only 6000 years old. Oh, hang on, maybe you are actually in a parallel universe which IS only 6000 years old. That would explain a lot . . .

  • @ScottishCaledonian Ephesians 4:25-29 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor., for we are members of one another. Be angry and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. he who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need. Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, to be continued...

  • @ScottishCaledonian Ephesians 4:29-31 but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear it. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you(only believers) were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

  • @GuitarGage870 Thta is scripture that is not proof of Gods existance, that was written by a middle easterner who was blatantly making things up. SCRIPTURE IS NOT EVIDENCE

  • @ScottishCaledonian Did I say that the scripture was "evidence"? No, though it is. I was simply saying that if you think scripture is moronic drivel, than you clearly are blinded by your flesh and pride(we all wrestle with flesh and pride, even believers). You don't even know who wrote it! The Apostle Paul wrote it (with God's full inspiration). Once again I have given you some evidence and you fail to give me any evidence of your own belief.

  • @ScottishCaledonian If that is primitive, moronic drivel to you, than you need counseling!

  • @GuitarGage870

Voltaire once said 'If god did not exist it would be necessary to invent him' Well I think he was on the nail, look how many gods we have invented so far!!!!

  • Ricky joked that this would be a lecture...

but the funny thing is, I watched this for the first time when I was 13, at that time I was very Christian, loved god and even wanted to be a vicar. But I was up late one night and switched on TV to find this.. 'blasphemy'. And I thank him. Because while this is jokes, and its hilarious, it was this that made me question what my parents and teachers were telling me. from that night I searched into science. now a passionate Atheist lol so.cheers rick!

  • @Shenanigans07 another one lost. what the difference between the atheistic life and life as God's child?

  • @Shenanigans07 hey me too, almost the same story, well good for you, we suppose to stop beleaving in fairy tales when were young, lol

  • @Shenanigans07 excellent now you will become a big beautiful tree when you die!

  • @Shenanigans07 I feel sorry for you, for one man to persuade you against your beliefs and turn you away from what you felt strongly about is just sad. I hope one day you come back to your innocent self and realize the mistake you've made.

  • @lukeymoe1315 I feel sorry for you, as your ignorance is quite something.

Also, maybe the favour of reading over the comment again and actually heed what it says. As it clearly says, he made me search deeper into science. He is PARTLY responsible for my change to atheism. Not soley, as you suggest.

I was born an atheist. I was turned into a Christian. It was weak of me to let others persuade me back then too. By your logic.

  • @Shenanigans07 I could sit here for hours and discuss logic, religion etc but I don't have the time nor the patience, what ever you want to believe no worries, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Best of luck in the future.

  • @lukeymoe1315 Agree.

Same to you, buddy =) take care now.

  • @Shenanigans07 You were "born" an Atheist, huh? So when you popped out your mom's crotch, you started pondering philosophy? Being religious has nothing to do with your blood. You sound like a victim yet it is your own fault. It took a comedian's stand-up routine to make you question your entire belief system? It really sounds like you just never questioned it. I became an atheist/independent on my own. Don't act like religion corrupted you, it's your own damn fault.

  • @Shenanigans07 To me you sound like a killer who is blaming his weapon for murder. Take the blame and quit acting like religion is some device that lures you into believing nonsense. You know it IS possible to enjoy The Bible and not be an idiot, right? I know a lot of smart Christians/Catholics. Look at Stephen Colbert, he's a smarter guy than Gervais. Intelligence has nothing to do with your religion.

  • @LuneyTune72 I can't be bothered to argue with everything you said.

But I will argue with the thing that stood out.

Of course I was born an atheist. Being an atheist is being without religious belief.

I was born without belief. I didn't come out of the womb thanking the heavens above I survived.

Religion has everything to do with what family you are raised in and the culture which surrounds you.

Also, I agree... Being religious doesn't make you less intelligent than being an atheist.

  • @Shenanigans07 So, by not knowing about turtles means that I don't believe in turtles? You seem to believe that being atheist is purity and that religion then taints your mind. You really have no idea what atheism...Really, that argument is completely idiotic that I have trouble talking about it. It's as simple as this: When you are born, you have no sense of judgment yet therefore you are not an atheist...you have no thought on the matter yet. Sigh...please, read what atheism is.

  • @Shenanigans07 Atheism is the rejection of the belief in deities. You are taking "no belief" out of context and comparing it to that of a baby with an undeveloped brain. Also, religion does not always have to be about your family or what is around you. Maybe you are just speaking from personal experience and lack of knowledge but please don't try to state facts that are bullshit.

  • @LuneyTune72

Your argument is correct. In that, we aren't born atheist. And no, we aren't. But we certainly aren't born believers, we're made to believe.

So, In many senses, yes we are born atheist. As, at it's core, atheism is not believing,

I think religion does taint the mind. So, yeah. You're spot on.

  • @Shenanigans07 Here Here

  • @lukeymoe1315 They're not 'your beliefs' - they're soiled hand-me-downs with all the residue of 2 millenia of human mental slavery.

  • @lukeymoe1315 We ALL take on the beliefs of our parents when we are young. Later on when we grow old enough to THINK for ourselves, we start to question those beliefs. Some we continue to accept, others we decide to drop and replace with different ones. Peer pressure works in both areas. We have to be independent and look for sensible proofs of our beliefs. If we just blindly go along with our peers then we end up like the evil nutters in the Middle East who murder non-believers!

  • @Shenanigans07 Why make it sound as though you were cured? You either choose to believe in something or you don't. It annoys me when Atheists act as though by becoming Atheist they are better. Listen, believing in religion does not make you an idiot. To believe that then you must be one cocky prick. Religion's purpose varies widely, Ricky doesn't comment on the morals of the book rather he satires it as literal history. Some believe it to be fact but they aren't all Christians.

  • wheres part one?

  • @reemabadge

Apparently "SOMEONE" removed the bible bit from ALL places... for "copyright" infringement...

Which is bizarre because you can find all parts of the show "before" and "after" this.

Those other parts are NOT breaking any copyright... apparently.

  • stop worrying and get on with your life because religion will suck you dry. No god.

  • So the first part was censored. Wow. Christians are really sick.

  • Lol Genesis a nice way to bring women down over a fairytale

  • LMAO!

  • Evolution is as real as gravity . If anybody disputes it, tell them to jump off a building and hope they fall up because the theory of evolution holds as much weight as the gravitational theory

  • Still can't believe people actually think that an old man with a beard created everything,,,

  • If atheist don't believe in God why are a lot of them obsessed with proving to believers he doesn't exist. I don't believe in the tooth fairy, but she is never the topic of my conversation. Atheism is lose lose, u either rot in the ground, or go to hell.

  • Some reasons to want to dispel religion/god: it holds women in contempt and views them as property; religion tries to control people by fear of the unknown (eg. afterlife); people with religious BELIEFS (not facts) want to control our governments, forcing their BELIEFS on all other members of a secularist society (Au, US, UK).

And if you only believe in GOD and do good things is because your afraid to go to hell, that is sad. I do good things because I see a commonality in all things.

  • @bigboi1939 thats funny cause christians do good things cause were taught to love each other and respect one another not because were afraid to go to hell, maybe u shouldn't make comments that make no sense

  • @Joshtified

I don't know how to make my response anymore easier to understand. It's really not that complex.

Regardless, in response to your 'atheism is a lose lose' comment: this implies that you only believe in god because your afraid to go to hell. I have heard this augment before and it does not work in your favor.

Are Christians really taught to love and respect one another? From my vast experiences in youth groups, with Christians, and studying the bible I would say no.

  • @bigboi1939 im not saying all christianity is without its hypocrites, u should try talking to God and letting him work in your life instead of dispelling it all together because u dont like certain youth groups

  • @Joshtified If you find yourself in a position where basic qualities like kindness need to be taught to you, and instructed, rather than practised out of innate want to be the best you can, then you should be worried.

"We get instructed to be nice" is not a good selling point, when you actually analyse the message.

  • @pamew so ur saying if we dont teach our children to be kind and caring they will become that way on their own? that doesnt sound correct

  • @Joshtified I'm referring to adults, nice straw man argument :)

In the case of children, teaching them complex morality is is not something that Christianity has the Market cornered in, and the idea that Christianity is somehow going the extra mile or superior in any sense because it teaches qualities to adults that any child with a decent parent would know, is, and I repeat this, again, not a strong selling point.

  • II) The other problem with being taught to abide by the moral code of the bible is that is absolutist, has some extremely questionable material in it, and is completely out of date. It's a collection of 2000 year old stories. The fact that we live in a world where parents feel the need to hack skin off their children's genitals to please a god of war does not make a case for the Abrahamic faiths.

  • @Joshtified you can teach you children to be kind and caring. you DO NOT need a "god" to scare them into being that way. I am an atheist who thinks religion is laughable and brings unimaginable amounts of pain and suffering. I am a kind and caring person who became a veggie because i care so much. I am this kind and caring person because my parents taught me to be (without a "god") and because i want to be. Its very sad if you need a thing in the sky to scare you into being that way.

  • @sam8110 it may surprise you to know, you can also teach your kids to be kind and caring WITH a healthy belief in God, too. Just another option out there among many :) I would not hesitate to agree that many atheists are morally sound people. But this "scared into being good" notion is very one-sided and cartoonish. We're not scared of the "thing in the sky" we're inspired by the "thing in the sky".

  • @customcartoons none of that has anything to do with the truth

  • @sam8110 you really think religion is laughable? i would say is a natural response of people for not facing the complete and utter desperation of a meaningless life in a meaningless universe , i mean dont you understand religion is the answer of some people not to loose hope, i respect their choice, and i dont think is laughable, knowing man and the whole universe could be simply a mistake soon to submerge into oblivion is not laughable its quite sad and unavoidable

  • @anthonycotillo Yes i do. Make believe (religion) is all well and good if it hurts no one. But this isn't the case is it and far from it. Religion causes so much unimaginable pain and suffering and all for what? So some people can feel comfort thinking when you die, that's not it? It's not worth the pain and suffering. Where as the truth, (nature) doesn't hurt a sole. Nature is beautiful, how we came about scientifically is far more enchanting than anything *Poof* 'there's a human' design.

  • @Joshtified LOL....yea, you make me laugh....I'm agnostic btw..

  • Strictly speaking snakes did start off as lizards in evolutionary terms, and humans in most tribal societies are not too fussed about nakedness. ....So in broad mythological brushstrokes the Judeo-Christian creation myth is as good as any.

Of course the problems then start if one looks at pre-modern myth as though it were to be read as scientific fact.... something that both religious fundamentalists and ironically people like Dawkins both do. The dual perils if narrow-mindedness IMHO.

  • @willhum Your perceived dual perils are actually one thing in response to the other. Dawkins is merely acknowledging that religious fundamentalists consider pre-modern myth scientific fact and is acting accordingly. One cannot hope to assert the ludicrous nature of fundamentalism (or any religious perspective for that matter) without evaluating the positions of those people. The abyss may stare back into you, but this is no example.

  • Ofcourse there was a big bang. There was a big ball with time in it, space etc. it went bang and voila..

  • Im Christian, this is funny! =] but science and religion can go hand in hand! I believe in evolution and the bible! Yay Catholocism! Ricky is one of my favorite comedians!

  • @phati129 "believe in evolution and the bible! Yay Catholocism (sic)!"

This being the same Catholicism that only acknowledged in the year 2000 that Galileo was actually right about the earth orbiting the Sun. This is also the same institution that only admitted mere months back that condoms actually do help protect against AIDS.

Sorry, but if you think Catholicism and Science can be friends, you're misinformed.

  • @pamew

Im not one to argue, but i used to think like you until i graduated... ;)

no but seriously now Science and Catholocism do work together. They might not see eye to eye on everything BUT science only strenghtens my faith. It works with my faith. You throwing out one or two examples out there does not really justify anything.BTW, Galileo was wrong. He said the sun was immobile and the earth was mobile. Both are mobile so the Church in the 1600s made the correct decision But Ricky is funny

  • @phati129 "so the Church in the 1600s made the correct decision"

So they made the correct choice by endorsing the far less accurate of two theories? That's good science to you?

And they rejected it because of the premise that the earth orbited the sun. nothing else. Nice to see you being so dishonest to defend your religion :)

"BUT science only strenghtens my faith"

Then you must be deluded. Science disagrees with pretty much every "fact" about the universe and earth in the bible.

  • @pamew "You throwing out one or two examples out there does not really justify anything"

Except it does. Declarations that ran AGAINST all available evidence for centuries on end have only just been publicly acknowledged as the bullshit they are. This is a religion so backwards, and so oppressive that their own patron saint of politicians burnt people at he stake..for reading the bible in English. This is ENTIRELY relevant, as it was only a few years back that he was MADE a saint.

  • @pamew They rejected it not because of a premise, they rejected it because they didnt agree with it. Not only did they reject it because of that, they rejected it because Galileo suggested the bible is futile. Just because somethings in the bible dont agree with modern science doesnt disprove the bible. The bible is not our only source for knowledge and faith. There is Tradition and there is science. God gave us a rationality to use it, not to be ignorant of the natural world and universe.

  • @pamew go take a class, take a scholarly approach to Christianity and you will realize that what Ricky Gervais is saying is very uneducated and wrong. The points he makes are not educated or scholarly. If you want to comment on religion, or in this case Christianity, pick up a book and read what we actually believe and how we go about our faith. I mean no disrespect at all but if you believe that science disagrees with every "fact" you have to first understand what Catholics believe as fact.

  • @phati129 "what Ricky Gervais is saying is very uneducated and wrong"

I never made any comments either way about the accuracy of what Ricky is saying. Go learn what a "straw man fallacy" is, please :)

"pick up a book and read what we actually believe"

Oh, so now you're switching to weak ad hominems, making the asinine assumption that I couldn't POSSIBLY of already done that.

  • II) I notice that all of a sudden you've gone rather quiet as regards Galileo. I assume that means that you've now acknowledged that stating that the theory with NO evidence to support it is fact, and punishing a man who has a theory that actually HAS evidence to support its claims of heliocentrism, is in fact, not particularly friendly toward science. In fact, it's a direct hindrance.

  • III) Although, hey, if you want to switch directions and talk about the beliefs of the church, rather than its woefully lame grasp of the natural world, let's talk. How about the doctor, and 9 year old rape victim and mother who were excommunicated for carrying out and receiving an abortion, and the rapist step-father who WASN'T, because, in the words of the Archbishop Don Jose Cardoso Sobrinho "A graver act than rape is abortion"

  • IV) Yes, in the eyes of the catholic church, a 9 year old rape victim who gets an abortion has committed a FAR worse heretical crime than her rapist step father. Apparently, also worse than Hitler, who was never excommunicated.

Hilariously, (though somewhat darkly), "Mein Kampf" never made it on to the list of the Vatican's index of prohibited books, yet works by Sartre and Gide DID.

And you still say with a straight face that you belong to a morally strong, enlightened church?

  • @pamew look at you using big words lol. I know you have not read just by the way you are responding. Since your responses are very anti protestant-esk. There is no misinterpretation of your argument. You are basing your argument on an uneducated stance against the bible & Catholocism. All i said was learn what we believe as fact before you start an attack..

  • @phati129 "All i said was learn what we believe as fact before you start an attack.."

Which was, and still is, a weak Ad hominem, repeating it doesn't change that, you know that right?

"Since your responses are very anti protestant-esk. "

Yes, because specific examples of the CATHOLIC church suppressing science and philosophy, and excommunicating rape victims but not the rapist is all standard anti-protestant rhetoric.

    WHAT?

  • thumbs up if you're an atheist

  • @chickensandw1tch Im an atheist and spent 15 yrs in Catholic School...I was so happy to get outta there

  • i would love to see Ricky have an argument with a christian

  • Science is not the same as Macroevolution. Science is the "study of the physical/material world through observation..." Science is not "Macroevoltuion."

Microevolution is true, Creationist or not. But Macroevolution is false in every way, and evolutionists will grind their teeth to the gum trying to prove Creationism wrong. Base line: SCIENCE IS NOT MACROEVOLUTION.

  • @SwaffyX How can you possibly say that macroevolution is not true????? that is absurd. Please, tell me what biology book you are reading that tells you that macroevolution is not true, because I am a biology student and I have never ever read anywhere that says that.

  • I wish I could fly like normal.

  • This is hilarious and incredibly smart on his part because if you want to stuff your chest with jokes pick up a religious book. That is a treasure trove indeed as they are so deeply and blindly believed in but when and if you read them they are a farce.

  • fuck off shut up dont listen to that, NOOOOOOO bollocks bollocks bollcks bollocks bollocks

  • actually, the serpent had legs before he came up to eve. but im just saying :)

  • "jesus is brilliant to, Vicar can I have a coke ?"...LOL

  • @justifiedundignified why to see the evil blaphemy of atheists?

  • @lonewolfM16 HAHAHA Religion is epic fail. Please debate religion with me, I'm dying to argue about its failness.

  • @Rainbowsixoperator1 well obviously its idiotic i completley agree with you i was just asking what motivation a church could have to show this are tgey trying to paint atheists as evil god mockers or something

  • @lonewolfM16 Oh, right.

  • @justifiedundignified theres a church of Atheism? :O sign me up!!!

  • @justifiedundignified haha, in what context?:p

  • @justifiedundignified well i guess it's not a church

  • @justifiedundignified Did they cut the end?

  • @justifiedundignified How did that go? I'm really curious!

  • @justifiedundignified

no way.... You guys must be the kind, humble, yet very rare religious type.
