  • Joe Mcnally is a PHOTOGRAPHER. what about you ?

  • agree with adey7569. Its 95% its photoshop...or show me your talent to make 100%pics a day.....good job .. but people who wants to start to be like that guy.. first watch and start with photoshop. It takes time but not so hard like people think ... jawa and other programs are harder...

  • @MsOLDTUBE No, it's mostly lighting, exposure, styling and direction; Photoshop is used mainly for background replacement in this photo series. You can see the lighting setup used (overhead octa straight on, two rectangular softboxes behind and to the sides for rim lighting, V-flats to prevent flare (and add some fill), separately lit background for the white cyc verticals, no bg lighting for the black backdrop horzontals), the model direction and the wet-look styling. It's all there.

  • nice...

  • muy bueno tu trabajo, pero la musica parece de un video porno.

  • How can anyone dislike this guy or his work? He is one of the nicest and most genuine, generously talented shooters out there. The mind boggles

  • What a waste of time. THis is a show off and not an intructional video...

  • I've heard this cheesy music before.

  • 3 stop exposure for HDR, -2,0,+2, shoots them on a high q white background (complete with strobes to light the model) then proceeds to cut out the model and paste her onto the HDR background and smooths it out...

  • What software are you using to bring in the photo back drops.

  • The pictures look nice but I am more into pure photography without CGI and tons of Photoshop. I appreciate the effort to go on location and do everything in one shot with lighting. Photoshop is OK for your picture levels, color balance and skin retouching.

  • @photobart1 that's what those who CAN"T always say!!!

  • and here i thought... amazing photos. more like amazing photoshop work. not cool

  • @eljiah What's the diff.? Eyeballs + mind chewed on what you saw, output it as "amazing"...you watched a vid showing what you just grubbed-on as tasty was actually cooked-up diff. then you thought, and that changes the flava'? You're right, that's not cool thinking. 2011, kid...nothing visual you see is made of one part.

  • @dnafarmdivide theres a difference between CGI and photography... and quite frankly, KID i am a photographer with a rather nice portfolio in my pocket and know my way around the kitchen, so lets not get into technicalities here. everyone with enough editing skills can turn a crappy image in something stunning.

  • This pony has a great trick.

  • whats on top of his camera?

  • Who has the rights to this music? It looks like infringement. Even tho it sounds like a porno soundtrack.

  • check out Patrcik Giardino for some sport action

  • Joel, your pictures are fantastic. Move over Joe McNally I have a new mentor!! Thanks.

  • a little too much photoshop for me but REALLY nice images

  • Drop the music down like 10 dude...otherwise niceley done.

  • Just wanted to tell you that you are my favorite photographer. Next to Annie Leibovitz, you are the most innovative photographer out there today.

  • very unusual thread. Thanks for letting us behind the scene. If you would like a full tutorial you can buy his dvd that goes into full detail. Thanks and have an awesome day.

  • why did you change the speedo cap into a nike cap?

  • I just want to know, the pictures he show is with or without retouch? In a brightday, how did you make the picture look so dark?

  • @ny1fanta

use small aperture like f11, use flash for the subject

  • thats good , you should go check out mine , it was a beach theme .. :)

  • great work! I enjoyed the video!

  • It looks weird with her shoulders rolled so far forward.

  • Sorry, but these aren't tutorials - they are just show cases to boost this guys self esteem. I like his work though.

  • @leachylad Well... Does he claim in any way that this is a tutorial? o_O

  • @gabichou26 Read the 'Category' - it clearly reads 'Howto & Style" the phrase How to would suggest how to do something, therefore an element of teaching and as such a tutorial.

  • @leachylad I see. Well, maybe he wanted to show off his *style* as a photographer. :)

  • @leachylad they're tutorials alright... if you know what's going on :)

  • @gonrog at the beginning where it show the football player and then the lady laying on leaf or plant how does he make the photo look like that

  • @Learning1987 What do you mean: 'look like that"? Do you mean the good lighting? Do you mean the post processing? Do you mean the decent camera with great glass on it? Be more specific...

I'm not gonna say that it's easy to make photo's like those, it's costly (you need good equipment) and it's executed perfectly.

  • @gonrog im talking about the lighting and texture of the image just take a look at it when the girl is laying on the leaves and pause the video it looks cinematic

  • @Learning1987 Then you need to take a look on this site retouchpro (dot) com/forums/

look for high/low pass split. Learn colormanagement and toning, learn about levels and curves.

about the lighting... Well, search for studiolighting on youtube.

and here's a bit of my portfolio so you know I'm not just bullshitting. It's not of the same level as Mr Grimes, but I'm not an absolute amateur either :)

    xippix.500px (dot) com/#/0

  • @leachylad - I don't see anywhere where it says it's a tutorial. It does say behind the scenes, which is exactly what is says.

  • @theoriginalphere at the beginning where it show the football player and then the lady laying on leaf or plant how does he make the photo look like that

  • @leachylad Doesn't say anywhere that they are tutorials but BTS with a very noted photographer who doesn't need us to boost his self esteem, he's plenty successful as it is. The tutorials are available for purchase from his site.... how's that for self esteem?

  • @leachylad who said they're tutorials, dumb ass?

  • @TwoPlusFourIsSe7en the description, he was talking about the website, dumbass.

  • @leachylad Has a great point. These are a great mesh of mad-skills but 'tutorial' shouldn't be in the tags - there aren't tut's here except in redirects to Joel's site. It is fantastic stuff...swimmer-chica is hot as h3ll too.

  • @leachylad

it doesn't say tutorials buddy...it says behind the scenes...go to his site and there are tutorials there. Hope this helps

  • @leachylad The work this guy has and the clients he gets I think self esteem is his last problem he's having, maybe it you.

  • @leachylad read and comprehend the title and description

  • @leachylad doesn't really say on the title this is a tutorial

  • @leachylad Have you not read the title and description?

  • Joel: thanks for all of your tutorials and willingness to share. For a photographer trying to go pro later in life, your work is a great inspiration and motivational tool.

    Thanks again!

  • @SuperPassion4fashion I haven't watches his video before, but I don't like it when people just take studio portraits and add a fancy background and call themselves photographers. They're not, it's just fake all the way.

  • great insight to how the pros do it.. thanks...

  • Wow wow wow!!! Truly impressed my friends, I can honestly say I have watched tons of YouTube vidz regarding photographers and lights, and yours have to be the most unique and flavorful... May I ask canon model and lens Are you shooting with???? And do you have an recommendation on lighting as far as soft boxes goes, is it better to shoot with Continuous on strobe?????????

    Thanks in advance.

  • It was nice to meet you today Joel!!!

  • Fantastic pictures, wish i had half your talent, oh and Lenses lol.

  • @adey7569 Its not talent its equipments and photoshop

  • @khashy87 ...and creativity, lighting (it's not what you use as much as how you use it, and each of the lights, modifiers and reflectors/gobos used serves a specific purpose in the final image), composition, experience and a good eye. There are a lot of "photographers" who own easily as much gear and spend endless hours in post that can't produce images on anything like this level.

  • @khashy87 talent to know how to use them well ;)

  • I Love ur Pictures - u do a Great Job!!!!

    Faved!!!

  • very niceeeee

  • I've been a Fan of your Work for a while now.....

    Keep up the Excellent Work!

    BTW: LOVE the Videos,

    Keep'em Coming.....
