@TheSnowyice these are not saltwater these are hybrids between a Red devil and Gold severum. They are 90% or so sterile. Not true parrot fish. Wish i could get salt water so i could get some :D
The Bigger the better, i just purchased two 5 inch Blood Red Parrots for my Peacock Bass tank, i wanted to add some color, and i love my Ugly Little dudes.........
The guy i purchased them from, had the pair in a 25 gallon tank, now there in a 125, and loving life, and will grow to there full potential.....8 +
The Bigger the better, i just purchased two 5 inch Blood Red Parrots for my Peacock Bass tank, i wanted to add some color, and i love my Ugly Little dudes.........
I love my parrot fish. He knows me and knows when he will be fed. He is in a 30 gallon tank and loves life. Lots of cool things for him to explore. And I HOPE the person was kidding about having them in a tiny 1 gallon tank. That would be torture and NOT cool at all for the fish.
oh shoot wrong comment i meant to say will they get sucked up into a 10 gallon whisper because if it can suck an earthworm up i am worried about the shrimp
p.s i failed to edit the comment that's why you read that
@primeotron the shrimp can go with bettas i had a few in my small betta tank. They do need a filter or some kind of aeration. and temperatures between 72-82 like other tropical fish.
They are supposed to be a hybrid between the midas/red devil and a Gold Severum. That doesn't make them 'fake' fish, they just aren't considered true cichlids.
how do u keep the lil parrot from being attacked? my other parrot and my electric blue wont leave the lil one alone... he isnt that much littler thought so idk what to do :(
The oscar is bigger then the small parrots but the big parrots attack the oscar if the oscar attacks the smaller parrots.
Is it a electric blue jack Demsey?or if its a electric blue african cichlid then you need to separate them. South american cichlids never do well mixed with Africans. One of the two are too aggressive and kill the other kind. I would pick if you want a African tank or a South american cichlid tank. All mine are South american cichlids i have no problems with over aggresivenes
you dont have too mine were always like this but Krill might help.
Krill is a natural color enhancer. My lemon oscar i had was yellow but i fed him a lot of krill and he turned pink from the krill. So that might help.
just so you know, you do not have to feed them, they have to be bought in whatever color you want. most pet stores carry orange or red ones, some even carry blue, green, yellow, or even purple ones. however the ones that are blue or green etc. are usually dyed at fish farms, but the red or orange and lighter yellow ones are naturally that color.
omg!! my grandmas old fish looked like that 2!!=D They're soo cute!! xD Unfortunately, they were given away...n a year after that my grandma died...=(
most of the parrot fish are from those two types of fish. i heard there is also green terrors and green severums make parrots too but not sure how true that is. But most are bred between red devils and gold severums. ^_^ thats what mine are
I've only just got into keeping tropical fish and my nearest tropical fish store owner sells Parrotfish. He told me that Parrotfish have a modified mouth but no jaws.
My fathers house hes got a bigger tank. i got some of them when they were a good size and not sure how old they were. So two of them died out of the blue. Which i think they were old. But the others are in my fathers tank. :D
nice fish, but do they get along with the oscar? from my experience bigger oscars dont get along with others fishes, especially those that dont fit into their mouth..
actually the two big parrots. were the boss of the tank. He would chase the smaller parrots and the bigger parrots would charge and hit him. He wouldn't mess with the big parrots. It was kinda funny.I think it depends on your oscars personality. As long as the fish are bigger then the oscar you usually dont have a problem. My 2 parrots are the same size or a tad bigger then my oscar. An you can get aggressive parrots too. I seen them very docile and then there are aggressive ones. have a goodday
i have a 46 i wouldnt go any lower then 30 for a parrots. then you still have to get a bigger tank for them when they grow.i have 3 parrots now thats better then six in a 46 i gave some to my father. :D
no its not he will get big quick i have another since the one i have in this video i gave to my father cus he was getting verry big. But i have a smaller one he was about 2 inches in the middle of last month now he is 5 or 6inchs now. He will out grow it in a month. Sorry
Parrots are so cute. I bought three of them as babies and they turned bright yellow and one turned bright orange. Yet, when I bought them they were grey with black stripes @_@
hehe they do that. Its like mood swings lol mine gets black in them. THen they turn bright orange. There awesome fish. there very cute and lovable too.Hope yours are doing well ^_^
how is it that your parrots r so red. are they always that red or sometimes they turn pale color? because mine are pale most of the time & only sometimes they r red. does it have anything to do with the water?

Besides that i just do monthly water changes and have crushed coral and gravel ph is7.0-7.2 or little more. Ask me anything i be happy to help
thanks for da advice. I still have a question. I have 4 healthy parrots & a blue jewel and its pretty similar to your oscar. anyway it has a hole on da top of its head & some of its fins r falling off. what is going on and what should I do? Im also kind of worried because it hasnt eaten in almost 2 weeks to three. everytime it trys 2 eat da pellets, it spits out da food.
It might be hole in the head disease my Oscar had it but he got better. thats why a piece of his dorsal fin is missing. He had similar symptoms to your fish. There are all sorts of fish diseases out there i suggest to go to the fish store and get to the store. The fish might be too sick to eat pellets right now you can go to flakes till it gets better. Then switch back.I hope i got to you in time. good luck.
They can eat rosy minnows i give mine 10 for the big ones to eat cus there mouths are big enough. They could eat guppies to and river shrimps.THe smaller ones can't eat them though. They will when they get older.^_^

Do you hatch your own shrimp or just buy it?Nice fish I have 2 parrots myself with some videos check them out when you get a chance.I think you like the music trust me no country.
my parrots eat live platy lols.......yesterday i added in 15 today i found 8 missing cause they ate it.
