This and the Trashmen's Surfin' Bird came out the same year! Waaaay more subversive in the context of the times than anything Zappa or the Velvet Underground did later that decade!
I keep coming back to this song again and again. Its hypnotic, irreverant and ripe for the pickings for someone to record and reinvent, soooo good! A lost gem.
You gotta give them their due. These girls were firing on all cylinders on one of the most wacked-out discs to come out of the early '60's. Sounds like it could have been an outtake from a beach party movie. My hat's off to them! Great sound!
Wow, that's in 1963?....... The following quote describes best of this song:-
It's not just that this girl group's gone wilder than any garage band on the list-- it's that they're possessed . The Tammys bop hard and bratty, but by the chorus they're literally growling, barking, and squealing like sexed-up hyenas; in the bridge you can hear them shudder and jerk their way into a frenzy. It's their party and they'll scream if they want to. --Nitsuh Abebe
@geoffdoor It's fine that you don't like this song. And it's fine that you like ABBA. But you can't really compare ABBA to something this visceral. This song is incredible.
@sacklemaster this song is not incredible its a load of fucking women on heat singing about daddy bumming his kids ...now if you want a good woman band then listen to cher ...
This is a " One Hit Wonder " that slipped thru the cracks in the 60's. In Northwestern Pa. where the group is from. This song was a Hit that topped the charts on radio stations WWGO & WJET in Erie , PA for several weeks. Had this song been found in Cleveland or in Philly, and promoted right, it would have gotten high on the National charts as opposed to the lack of National Radio air time. If you enjoyed this, listen to "Take Back Your Ring". It was a Major Hit ..... theviperman49
THIS RECORD IS UNBELIEVABLE. THOSE GIRLS, THAT SONG, IS AND SHOULD BE PUT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. THE MAGIC AND THE MISTREEEEEE IS BEYOND ANYTHING WITH THESE GIRLS AND LOU CHRISTIE. I WANT TO MEET HIM , FREE COFFEE AT THE TRUCK STOP
I love this song, it's so happy and fun and funny too. I guess his girls were willing to do whatever it would take to make a record with Lou Christie, even if it meant learning to bark. I bet they had a lot of fun making this record. To think they actually had someone teach them how to bark, I think I read somewhere that it was Lou's sister Amy then again I may be wrong, maybe it was someone else.
This is more Magic from The one and only Lou Christie , His girls , His song, His arrangment ,and his HEAT!!, These girls did him proud. congt The Tammys

A girl trio that frequently worked in the recording studio with Lou Christie. Released in the US, spring 1964, but didn't crack Billboard's Hot 100.

Wow, there is no bass on this track. You can barely make out the chord changes. It's crazy hard rockin' though. Lots of fun.

@firstcat The bass is there if you listen on headphones, sounds like a double bass maybe ... subtle :)
