Wow, good cause. I have an odd museum of computer history in my basement. My father and I are both geeks, and we have this idea that someday, it might be useful.

Strangely enough, I learned about this issue in art class! There's a photographer whose name I wish I could remember who photographed these people rifling through the piles and piles of not only e-waste, but buttons, tires, telephones, the list is endless.

i read an article in spanish class about villages in korea. villages built in dumps. villages filled with little children with gigantic, festering sores on their feet from walking on the rotting trash.

it was so sad.

i cried.

sadly, many "recyclers" here in the US say they are helping but they just sell it to a third party. there are very few checks on the system.

woah I didn't know that. e-waste is so not jokes.  What about companies that say they will take your old computer. Like I think if you buy a new apple, apple will take your old one. Are they throwing it in landfills too?

I think that would be a good question to ask Apple themselves about. I'm not sure if your local store clerks would know, but I suppose it's worth a shot.

I suppose it depends on how old your old mac is.

I wish computers were all made with the same specs and easily removable/replaceable parts so that we could just buy new parts instead of new computers. The industry isnt doing anything to fix this because ultimately they make more money if you buy a new one than fix your old one :(

The song is called Drifting by Andy McKee, you may have seen him around he has many very highly rated music videos. He's one of the best acoustic guitar players today, imo.

The main problem is the industry is about making things smaller and more efficient, so parts from 2 years ago are obsolete.
