Now you have had the fatbob for almost 4 to 5 years.. Are you still satisfied? Was the bike a headache at any point in time? I'm 6'2 and I'm 280 pounds, do you think I would look like a circus elephant on it? How did you sort out the heating problem? I have rented a street bob a week ago and it had the exact same issue on traffic light..
Many thanks in advance for all the valuable information you are providing..
@Ramishtine Sorry I haven't signed on in a bit. Yes, I still like it as much as ever. No headaches with this bike yet. I'm not a hard rider, though. I'm 6'2" as well and am generally comfortable. I have road pegs so I can stretch out. The heating problem is not a huge deal. If you want they can program the engine controller to turn off the back piston when the engine is idling.
Just inked yesterday the deal on a 2010 Fatbob in Sunglo red!. Being delivered once accessories are added. Stayed with the fwd. controls. At 6' tall was kinda worried about the reach but its a pretty good fit. Getting heel rest pegs added to the fwd. controls too. Hopefully will take delivery early next week!
Just how tall are you? I'm wanting my own 'Bob soon and am looking to get the mid's too.. Being a newer rider I'd like to have "some "in control" feeling and a bit safer on a bike I just paid $15K for. I'll get the bars to stretch out on highway jaunts. This is 1 of 2 videos I've seen here that have convinced me to get my own 'Bob instead of a Star 1300Tourer after trading off of my starter bike ...a Star 650 Classic. Great video. Thanks man!
@snsams6 I'm 6'2". It is about the limit of what I would do for mid controls. I, too, feel more comfortable with mid controls, but I use the forward pegs when I can. It's a really great bike and I'm pretty happy with it. There are only a few things I want to upgrade - seat, tach, and maybe the mirrors.
@dcanfielone I agree with you. i have a fatbob too and I'm 6'6". Eventhough mid controls would be safer and more precise when riding, the forward controls are a simple must when you're my height. And yet, with the wordward controls, the bike handles surprisingly well... Go figure... Anyway, nice video and nice ride! Cheers!
@urudufusmisrael No issues with the EFI or engine so far. The back cylinder runs a little hot and can be uncomfortable at a stop light in the summer, but Harley can put a program in to shut off the back cylinder at low rpm. It's a very comfortable ride overall.
Ya, I got pegs to rest my feet on, but in traffic, which I do much of my riding in I feel more comfortable with the mid controls. I can see why some people like the forward controls, though.
I would love a harley but livin in the UK they take such a battering from the salty wet winter roads. I have a honda blackbird which is a little more suited to the wet with the big fairing but one day when i can afford 2 bikes ill have a harley for sunny days. keep safe.
Should have got it with "training wheel's. You look scared to death. :o) Thought you were never gonna pick your feet up. Sheeeeeeesh. Love the "power ranger helmet too. :o)
how tall are you??? Please respond in centimeters if it's possible. I have not seen Fat Bob before and I want to know if it fits big'n'fat guys like me...
The Sporty had snappier turns and a sport suspension. Other than that the Dyna is better. The Sporty was a great bike that I really liked. The Dyna is better.
I got my Fat Bob the 2nd week in june 08. As of the end of October I have 12,600 miles on it. It's got forward controls and I put mini ape handelbars from the Wide Glide on. Love it. can't wait for next spring.
I'm happy with mid controls. I've got pegs on the front for stretching out if necessary. It seems from dealers I've talked to that most of the Fat Bobs are going with mid controls.
I saw one of these at the harley plant in york pa, Sat on it (they have a bunch of display bikes in the lobby) While I was waiting to got thru the tour(which is preety cool) and i fell in love with it! I will have one in my drive with in the year. It will be my first bike, Kinda big i know, But I have ridden bikes before. Just nevered owned one. This will be my first bike. Just working to get it done.!
Awsome! I was only able to tour part of the plant because you could not see the assembly part because they where building the 09's and the dealers have to see them before the public does. But man it was still a blast!!!
Awesome Fat Bob. Sad to see the Sporty go, but them's the breaks sometimes. I know I'll be sad when I end up selling my first bike, and it's just a little 223cc dual purpose.
I too came off a 02' 1200c. I also took delivery of my dealers "first" Fat Bob on 9-16-07. Now 3500 miles later I could not be happier. It came w/frwd controls, I added Rush slip-ons to the stock pipes and other cosmetics. I just added the detachable sissy bar and windshield kit last week for longer trips. Enjoyed your video, good luck and safe riding! Oh yeah, I never enjoyed going over 60mph on my sporty but Fat Bobs cruising speed is 80mph in 4th gear and still feels good at 115mph...hehehe
i went from a sportster to a 97 wide glide - didnt like the extra weight at first - now i wouldnt change it for anything - not even a fat bob - great bike though best of luck with it
hello all bikers! im french and i would like who s this singer on video i would like buy his cd thanks and good ride!!! i ride a 883r...and in two month i buy the bob!!!!
I'm getting my Fat Bob in about two weeks and I've never been more excited for anything in my life....and that's probably the best video I've ever seen in my life sir. Are you glad you went with the Fat Robert? The one I'm getting is exactly like yours except front mounted controls. I can't wait to ride into the sunset on my hog. Cheers to Fat Bob!
Thats a great video man. Felt bad for your sportie though. Just bought my fat bob today, get in mid June. Denim black, forward controls... felt better to me. How different of ride is it from your sportster? No handling problems? Just curious. Safe ride bro.
The ride is smoother than the sporty, but turning is slightly harder because it's a bigger bike. All in all a fair trade. The sporty vibrated above 60 or so. Dyna is smooth.
Hi from a fellow owner. Nice vid but (and I know its a personal opinion) you need forward controls man, you look all hunched up on that Hog. That sissy bar and tail rack has, I feel, ruined the lines of a good bobtail end.
This is definately a one man bike to churn some miles up on, ah well... happy riding my friend.
I have forward pegs on it for longer rides, but around town I feel a whole lot more comfortable with mid controls. Might looked hunched, but I'm not at all - it's very comfortable. I've heard from the local dealer that most of the FatBobs are going with mid controls. The red one with forward has been there since last summer.
Thanx for your reply, glad you didn't take it personal. At least you get the better weather over there for those long hauls as opposed to us in the UK! Kind regards.
Harley offers the Rider's Edge class, which is the same as the new rider's class. Some dealers offer it, and there are lots of other places that offer the new rider's class. It's a good way to learn and get your license, and they teach a lot of defensive thinking.
Enjoyed your video. I am thinking about making the same move. I am on a 1200R but the Fatbob has been my favorite bike since it was introduced.I have been to the Omaha Harley shop and sat on one but it had forward controls and at 5'9" it was a stretch for me. Your bike sounds really good, did you do any modifications other than the back rest?
Ya, mid-controls is probably best for you. Dealer should be able to find one for you. The mods I plan to make to the bike are chrome and such - transmission cover, mirrors, etc. There's no major thing on the bike I plan to change at this time.
Hello, first of all forgive my expression, I do not speak English, thank you.
I have commented that with the Fat Bob burn right leg with the tubes because the controls are very attached to the engine, it is true? The sound of the pipes is the series?
No, no problem with burning your leg or pants on the exhaust. When your foot is on the control peg, it is up and away from the pipes. You could move your heel over on the pipe, but really have to try.
There is a heat issue with the back cylinder of the new engines. In idle the back cylinder can put off a lot of heat. It only bothered me on the hottest days, though. If you so desire, the dealer can change it so it turns off the back one in idle.
Nope, it's much bigger than the Sporty. Mid-controls is very comfortable - not cramped at all, and I have forward pegs on it for long hauls. Local dealer tells me most they sell have mid-controls. Vibration is non-existent on the Dyna, was a problem on the Sporty.
wow, bro..awesome..im working so hard on getting my bike. seems like a long raod thou. that rocked. enjoy, hope to grow up and be like you. and thks for reminding me why and for what im working so hard for.
Yes, I am pretty tall, but I have no problems with the mid controls. I have pegs on the front for longer rides where I need to stretch. The seat position is back far enough so the mid controls don't generally cramp my legs.
I never rode a Fat Boy, so I can't make a direct comparison. In asking questions before buying, though, I think it is a little more responsive on turns and a little less shock-absorbent due to the lower rake angle on the Dyna. I've ridden on the freeway, though, and it is very comfortable.
Thanks for the info. I have now decided and bought a Fat Boy will be taking delivery next week - can't wait. Am visiting the USA in two weeks so hope to be picking up some good value kit - due to the good exchange rate we are enjoying at the moment. Safe Riding!
It was sticker price, plus taxes, minus the trade-in, which was pretty decent from a dealer for a 2001 Sporty. The Harley web site has all the sticker prices.
It's a good upgrade - you'll enjoy it a lot. Handling is very similar with the FXDF being more rideable with a lower center of gravity. The turning radius is a little larger, though.
The bike came with the mid-controls. Their second one has forward. I've always ridden mid-controls so I didn't mind. I have forward pegs on so I can move my legs forward when cruising. I can out forward controls on later if I ever decide I want them. Most of the photos I've seen from Harley have the bike with forward controls. No turn signal relocation was necessary for the sissy bar.
Pure jealousy! I Just sold my 883 custom and I am eagerly waiting for Fat Bob #1 to arrive in Spain... Thanks for the nice video. It helps going through all the waiting - End Oct-Nov delivery :-(

Cool bike. Cost in Denmark, where I come from, 80.000,00 USD.
No - I dont lie.
cfodk 4 years ago
Wow, how come so much?
dcanfielone 4 years ago
Duty is 6% of Bike cost + freight
Import tax is 25% of above
Registration fee is roughly 180% of all of the above. And yes - you also pay registration fee of all previous taxes and the dealers profit.
A survey recently put Denmark on the map as the happiest place on earth. Unless you like Harley Davidson.
