@webbies4ever I would recomend ferret. They are so fun to keep. I would recomend you to get a girl(jill) they dont smell that much. Ferrets have skni glands that let out this musky smell, the boys(hobs) smell soo much but it depend on where you keep them or if theyre nutered. Nutered ones dont smell to much either. They are so funny to watch while playing, they play like kittens, babies actually fall asleep in your arms. They are eaiser to house trian than a cat or a dog. I hoped i helped ... :D

If you wash them more than that they will acctually smel worse because their skin will dry up so they will release more of the oil that makes the smell. I would say to nuter your jills also or bred her when she comes into season, jills can acctualy die if you dont bred them when they come into season.

You can tell shes in season when her private part is swollen then just put her in with a male. I would also suggest you get two ferrets preferably two jills, they are very sociable animals and can get lonely even if you play with them loads. @ayslin101 Maybe you can see if your parents will go to a local ferret rescue and meet the ferrets. It sounds like you have done your homework and are doing everything right but if your parents insist that you can't have a ferret, then their rules should be followed and when you leave home, perhaps you can get one then. :)

my mother was absolutely terrified of albino ferrets because when she was 4 she had 2 dangling off her fingers by there teeth then she found a young hobb (male) and she fell in love with him he is also an albino and then i got a jill ( female) and they mated and now i have 9 babies that r 21 days old now they r sooo cute

usualy i go around youtube to harass about kitens and pupies just to make people mad but i gota say this right here is so adorable the more i see ferrets the more i see a wonderful animal.

@jinglejangle3214 what i do with every animal i get, buy the cage, food, etc.. buy the ferret... hide it outside for a week then 1 day randomly bring it inside and act as if its nothing special. xD worked when i got my rabbits, guinea pigs.. gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, parrots, and now the new addition, a husky puppy. lol

@jinglejangle3214 yeah, i did all my research and showed it to my mom, even printed off some kijiji adds of ferrets up for adoption. i guess i had her convinced. it took her 2 weeks until we finnaly baught our first ferret at the pet store :) about a month or two later when we knew we could handle them we got another one :) luckly my mom wasnt allergic like everything else :P they are VERY clean animals, and if you know how to maintain their cage they dont smell.
I think you should do all the research you can and learn every bit. Then perhaps present it all to your parents and show them you are serious and it isn't just a phase.

just commenting to the people who said a ferret jill will eat her kits if u handle them....maybe this might be the rare case of a few [as with any animal who may feel her babies are in danger], but i use to breed ferrets and never had a case of a jill eating her kits after handling. EVER. and for the person who said rat mothers do this....i also bred rats when i was younger and did not have a problem after handling them. not saying it doesnt happen, but i think its very rare. :)
This can happen if you aren't bonded with the jill and the jill is scared or worried in some way. But there really isn't any need to handle until 2 weeks and only quick handling to change the nest.
I believe you're thinking of rats. Supposedly of you touch baby rats before a certin point, the mother won't want them any more and eat them. I don't think the same thing goes for ferrets.
I remember when i had rats and she had babies, and they didnt even have fur on them and i had to pick one of them up cause she was trying to pull it through the other other side of the cage cause it was stuck XD and all she did was clean it. but she wasnt afraid of us though, cause she was friendly.

Totally agree. I own a 4 year old female with 3 male cage mates ages 2 years and 3 years , and a 7 year old male who is on his last legs and must remain in isolation because he's aggressive.
They're like cats in diet, but it needs to be watered down. They need to be cleaned two-three times a week, and they need to be out of the cage alot for exercise.

We've been told by a woman from Marshall Farms (where we got our female) that if we were going to use dry cat food as the substitute for actual ferret food we had to water it down so it was softer so she could digest it easier (plus its hard to find where I live,)
I guess its a matter of preference on the lil guys' parts, too. We tried to give them the real deal and they avoided it like the plague until we gave them their usual...
LOL gotta love Marshalls "advice". They also recommend you feed your ferrets THEIR food and its one of the worst ones on the market.
Ferrets should ONLY eat cat food if it's one with at LEAST 40% meat based protein - Innova Evo, Petcurean Go! Natural, Blue Buffalo Wilderness - and contains little to NO grain. Most dry cat food has CORN as the main ingredient and 30% protein or less. Feed your ferret food like that and you'll have some SERIOUS health issues. What are you feeding them now?
If you can't find ferret food at stores near you then buy it online. Ferret Depot and Drs. Foster Smith both have REALLY good prices on Totally Ferret and even with shipping it ends up FAR cheaper than retail.
It's the old belief that they're "wild" animals and would greatly impact the environment should they get loose. Fact is domestic ferrets do not survive long in the wild once they get loose. There's never been reported cases of roving bands of wild pet ferrets roaming about. New Zealand and Hawaii have similar bans. They're banned in California and New York City in the States.

I believe you're thinking of rats. Supposedly of you touch baby rats before a certin point, the mother won't want them any more and eat them. I don't think the same thing goes for ferrets.

I remember when i had rats and she had babies, and they didnt even have fur on them and i had to pick one of them up cause she was trying to pull it through the other other side of the cage cause it was stuck XD and all she did was clean it. but she wasnt afraid of us though, cause she was friendly.

Totally agree. I own a 4 year old female with 3 male cage mates ages 2 years and 3 years , and a 7 year old male who is on his last legs and must remain in isolation because he's aggressive.
They're like cats in diet, but it needs to be watered down. They need to be cleaned two-three times a week, and they need to be out of the cage alot for exercise.
They're like human children if you want to argue that.

We've been told by a woman from Marshall Farms (where we got our female) that if we were going to use dry cat food as the substitute for actual ferret food we had to water it down so it was softer so she could digest it easier (plus its hard to find where I live,)
I guess its a matter of preference on the lil guys' parts, too. We tried to give them the real deal and they avoided it like the plague until we gave them their usual...

LOL gotta love Marshalls "advice". They also recommend you feed your ferrets THEIR food and its one of the worst ones on the market.
Ferrets should ONLY eat cat food if it's one with at LEAST 40% meat based protein - Innova Evo, Petcurean Go! Natural, Blue Buffalo Wilderness - and contains little to NO grain. Most dry cat food has CORN as the main ingredient and 30% protein or less. Feed your ferret food like that and you'll have some SERIOUS health issues. What are you feeding them now?

If you can't find ferret food at stores near you then buy it online. Ferret Depot and Drs. Foster Smith both have REALLY good prices on Totally Ferret and even with shipping it ends up FAR cheaper than retail.

It's the old belief that they're "wild" animals and would greatly impact the environment should they get loose. Fact is domestic ferrets do not survive long in the wild once they get loose. There's never been reported cases of roving bands of wild pet ferrets roaming about. New Zealand and Hawaii have similar bans. They're banned in California and New York City in the States.
