Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
Those early Garage bands beat the pissy pants off 90% of what passes for "popular" music today. RIP Sky ! Hope you're at that big ass party in the next world !
this is so weird... I met Sky Saxon a few years ago at a north London underground station... he had loads of bags so me and a friend offered to help him carry it - having no idea who he was. As a thank you he gave us a CD and signed it for us! We thought the man was a bit sloshed or something, and didn't take him serious. He was so sweet. Just read about his death... RIP mr SKY! x
The Standels, The Seeds, The Grass Roots...all used to tour the record stores here in southern CA to promote their latest singles. I actually learned "dirty water" while they were sitting in the store...asked the guy to show me how to play it and he did. Great days without a doubt! Imagine a 13 yr. old kid who thought the Beach Boys were nothing more than a local band!
The Seeds and the Shadows of Knight didn't even write their own songs? They were legends in their own minds?
Who ARE these "Garage Experts?" I HATE history revisionists!
Both "Pushin' Too Hard" and "Gloria" were top ten hits NATIONALLY. Yeah, "Gloria" was NOT a Shadows of Knight original, but they were certainly known nationwide, and they DID write LOADS of their own material! And the Seeds wrote ALL their stuff - at least 4 albums worth.
This is actually from the 1 hour documentary titled "Garage Rock USA" produced in March,2003 in Madison, Wisconsin. Jimy Sohns is performing quite well, considering he had walking pneumonia at the time.
I beg to differ with this man but the first popular version of "Hey Joe" was by The Leaves, a group way, way ahead of it's time...I believe it came out late 50's, early 60's..definately NOT the Garage Band era.
Great! I remember this from the late 90,s on PBS T.V. Thats Joe Kelley with Jimy Sohns in the SOK segments. Anyone know where I can find a copy? Thanks
I knew these guys. They lived in a house in Mt. Prospect. The group name was done one night when the local high school was doing 'All Knight' dances. DanO
That's quite a look: bleashed mullet, silk sportcoat and black leather pants!

It is a drag that his passing is over shadowing Sky , but not for those of us who are dedicated.
Sky was a kooky , funny charismatic guy.
The list of people he influenced is endless.
RIP

Sucks that he died. And what sucks even more i that Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett's deaths overshadow it.

That was one of the great things about these American bands who sprung up in the wake of the Beatles.
They did plenty of covers
thefamilycat 4 years ago
That guy can't be talking about The Seeds, because they did their own material. Sky Saxon wrote the lyrics.
