Gymnastic it's about being PERFECT, and yes they do have a standar which have to be just like that, the element required certain things to be perfect and a lot of gymnast can do it, so there it's not excuse like: it can't be done. About chinese people, they are a LOT OF CHINESE, if you are not good at something what the hell are you gonna do? I know, TRY HARDER. Did you know that in Cuba only the ones that do music or sports can leave the country or have the best food? YOU HAVE TO TRY HARDER!

I can understand where her parents are coming from, successful athletes are treated very well in China. You can go on all you want about how Americans start training later and compete at the same level which is true. But there are way more people in China than the states, but they can only bring the same Max number of athletes. These girls have to compete against each other for those spots and who's training is the government going to fund? The girl who has 7 years or 3 years of training?

I have seen this same documentary here on Youtube with English subtitles, but I can't find it anymore. I remember that the little girl they feature is 6yo, and that she has asked to quit gymnastics, but her parents try to encourage her every day that it will pay off if she does well and wins medals. That's about all I remember of it.

I find it strange that some countries think that you have to train future Olympians like gladiators from very early in their life.Our Olympians have trained for a long time too but more like a past time and our people perform at the same level as the Chinese.Acually, if you take into consideration the population difference we put out more high level athletes than they do.

I really look up to this little girl and others like her. She has so much strength, determination and courage to carry on even when it's hurting her. I really admire the chinese for having these characteristics of honour in their culture to succeed and be their best but I really hate the methods of training. I wish they had some sort of balance which pushed the gymnasts enough to improve without causing them so much pain :(

leg-ups, Kaili had to do 50, so of course she was looking bad. (btw it's unfair to show it like "while other normal kids are playing happily, Kaili is crying because of too much training" because other kids work hard at school as well and of course Kaili can have fun at the gym too, they just didn't show it!) of course the teachers feel bad as well when they see a kid crying, but they "can't be soft, have to go on pushing the children, only then kids will learn to persevere".

for the people who don't understand this: this documentary is about this girl Kaili Li her daily life. she and her parents live in some poor neighboorhood in shanghai, her parents work at a vegetable market and her dad gets up every night at 1 am to bring in fresh vegetables. she dresses herself, is brought to school and studies like a normal kid until noon. then she and 4 other girls are brought to the gym, where she trains intensively. for some reason, while the other girls had to do 30
