  • is this game made by the same developer who made sauerbraten?

  • blue rain? wtf

    cool anyway

  • Thanks for the response.

The reason I am comparing SL/OpenSim to Syntensity is that both SL/OpenSim and Syntensity is for Virtual World, except that Syntensity is more game oriented. However, I am wondering: Would SL be faster if it loads most stuff from the client's harddrive instead of fetching everything from the server (with the help of a cache)?

  • No, both Syntensity and SL only download *necessary* content. Content already downloaded is not downloaded twice. So in that respect there is no difference here.

  • I see. So SL by its own nature is laggy/not smooth for gaming.

  • very nice. Even Wii's rain effect is merely 2D.

The question is: Is it possible to build packaged buildings? I am thinking, for example, to allow a guild to build buildings/outpost (kind of like packaged buildings in SL)

  • Not sure what you mean by 'packaged buildings'? (I don't know too much about SL)

  • In SL all buildings are basically a collection of polygons (objects) linked together. Some of these builder ended u packaging them into a "package". If a user have permissions on the land, they can simply drag and drop the package onto the main window, and it will "magically" unpack and become the building as the builder intended. I know some even manage to put SL-scipts to allow teleporters exist within the package (to transport between level)

  • Hmm, well you can create an entire building as a mapmodel and add that to a map. But that isn't quite the same I guess.

It would be interesting to allow packages in syntensity. Probably not hard to implement, once the right file format is arrived at.
