  • Here in north wales... we have no freaking clue about BBC One being changed.. we never watch TV we just farm all day o3o im joking people... i never saw this on TV.. What was the time this played?

  • @silverleaf7878 Around 23:55 but it would not of aired in North Wales anyway since switch off was complete up there. This was from Wenvoe (Technically a small relay of Wenvoe) down here in South Wales.

  • Washing Machine Bits? how did he do that into a bicycle?

  • has any one got a vid of the the bit after this for digital viewers

  • Hmm my region (South) is going digital in about a month or two. Be great if it did somthing like this :)

  • @HoshiNoKaabii2000 Analogue worked beautifully.

  • There's nothing like a bit of snow and a jumping screen using an indoor aerial ... A little to the left... No... Right a bit ... Happy days

  • Miss you analog...

  • What's the difference to Analogue and Digital?

  • Here in London, we've already started watching BBC 1 on digital because the analogue picture is so bad :(

  • @sengelle sky+

  • why wasn't the national anthem played

  • lol, wen it went off in the outer hebrides, it just went off in the middle of a film. No goodbye, they pulled the plug while i was making a cuppa!

  • ITV 1 didn't do anything to close down. They just closed a door...

  • I'm gunna miss analogue so much, I'm goin 2 watch the last Meridian programmes b4 the end. :'-(

  • Oh that's beautiful. Just... wow.

    I'm tearing up slightly...

  • Comment removed

  • why does this only happen on bbc1 wales no other bbc chanels do this

  • It is me, in a different channel. The globe is a memory at the 80s.

  • how did i get here?

  • History in the making! Would have been nice to end with the National Anthem like the closedowns of old.... ;)

  • @sanders2378 S4C certainly did and they never did on their standard closedowns.

  • At least they did it with style. Much more than ITV1/HTV did.

  • oh my transmiter is Sudbery..

  • sad face :(

  • Nice ending to analog TV, an ending it deserved!

  • @weeardguy ya it should be the same for all colsedowns

  • What did you use to record this? Because I want to record my analogue TV being switched off. This happens sometime late next year.

  • @Niosasa An analogue TV tuner PCI card.

  • @remlap Where can you buy these?

  • @Niosasa For a year is it worth it, do you have a DVD Recorder?

Try eBay for a second hand one no point investing in new for only a year.

  • Theyll prob just pull the plug on ours with no word of it

  • what time was this broadcast?

  • See, the Welsh know drama.

  • Still got analogue here. We don't even have freeview yet!

  • @LegendaryKenneth Wut? You'll only have Freeview Light, statistically! Have you checked ukfree.tv for help?

  • @jjovereats Nope, when I wrote that there was no freeview coverage in Skipton (There is as of Sept. 5) The only option was freesat.

  • Oddly moving moment of TV history; has a real 'end of the world' feel to it.

  • Now that is how you do it. English regions, take note.

  • wonder if meridian will do a farewell...

  • Why's that?

  • @Tripp1993 that's where i live...

  • @matthewland2000 Yes this is what I am hoping myself. Fred Dineage of course involved with this...

  • @digitalmediafan who is Fred?

  • Fantastic closing! Wales knew their folk would like to see a bit of a send off! I feel a bit sad that I wont be in the UK for my switchover in London.Off to live in NZ... Hopefully someone will put it on here... Or I might join The Test Circle.

  • i only got BBC One East E and BBC One East W

  • @lancededcena123 Well I wouldn't count on it mate.

  • im on bbc east and i swich in 2011

  • @lancededcena123 Can BBC One East split the feeds into digital and analogue allowing separate playout?

I can only see the nations actually broadcasting a message, when the final transmitters going in Scotland, Northern Ireland and finally from London for their last transmitter.

  • @remlap i dont know because i swich in july 2011

  • I honestly hoped i would see the 'snow' at the end of that or at least a 'NO SIGNAL' :P Great anyways :P

  • @matthewcarlrose If I had waited any longer I would not of gotten HTV/ITV1 Wales

  • This actually made me pretty sad.

  • this got me really emotional

  • OK, that's fine. So you was the person who said all of that?

  • @MrKashmire123 I did the info. Sorry for the "did did" thing.

  • @MrKashmire123 I did did the info.

  • The other channels did.

  • That is it? A BBC Wales mirror globe from the 80's? What a sendoff! S4/C did to and HTV and ITV Wales were joining the group of the Analog discontinued.

  • Please can you make a 1980's breakdown?

  • That was very well said by the man who said the information, a very good way to say goodbye.

  • BBC 2 Analog close down please....

  • Plus BBC TWO.

  • I think on TV ark you can see all the BBC channels.

  • @remlap See the old globe on TV ark.

  • @Imaan158 So have i and sorry now I can not provide you with a 1960's BBC 2 Closedown.

  • Can you have a video of 1960's BBC 2 closedown ?

  • Animation: Next ident with Digital only text on the bottom of [show name]. Then text appears on a different screen: To continue watch BBC One Wales, switch to the digital service. More text appears, and go to another screen: with BBC One Wales logo.

Then the screen fades out to a: a black screen with the old BBC Wales logo, and it fades out. The ident (old globe) is on TV ark.

  • @Imaan158 For everyone who can't play the video, there's always reading and a bit of imagination now. ;)

  • No god save the queen?

  • @Shadow772craig More no Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau?

  • @remlap Well, anysort of anthem of the national, really.

  • @Shadow772craig Indeed S4C did.

  • Done a lot better than it was for Caradon Hill, all we got was sudden static!

  • Hello to Ditgital

  • Wow what a classy way to say goodbye to analog

  • @jettadude736 Indeed did you check out S4C's?

  • @remlap Just checked it out it was cool another one I liked was the WNBC New York switch to digital

  • @jettadude736 Do you have a link / youtube ID?

  • @remlap youtube.com/watch?v=7zsWDP_1vmE&feature=related

  • @jettadude736 Simple I guess this was aired after their final night light informercial things I assume?

  • @remlap Yes after the last replay of the DTV infomercial

  • At least they did something to mark the end of a broadcasting era. A nice touch with the old BBC globe - most places are just literally switching off, no ceremony or anything.

  • @Hanglands yes was a great send off and so was S4C I thought both really made an effort htv nothing.

  • I remember this. Our car has an analogue TV in it and the only one in our household. I remember climbing to see the final few moments of Analogue TV and I just missed it! All I saw was that BBC Globe just fading away. It is very nice that BBC Wales gave it a send off!

  • @573W1E6R1FF1N Well I am pleased to give you the chance to see it in full. - Cheers.

  • @remlap Thanks for the upload! I'll just have to catch the switchover from over the Severn unless its already been switched off :(

  • @573W1E6R1FF1N Mendip went in March sadly mate.

  • @remlap Maybe I should move to London and catch it in 2012

  • @573W1E6R1FF1N Aye that be an interesting what BBC put out on Crystal Palace.

  • Nice to see the mirror globe one last time...

  • @TheKid965 Maybe BBC Wales doing this will inspire other BBC regions/nations to do the something similar when they closedown analogue final time.

I hope so and hope a recording ends up online. :)

  • I think what I'd like to see would be a last playing of GStQ, like the BBC used to do at closedown, under a montage of the different BBC idents over the years... mirror globe to COW to laserdisc globe to Balloon to Dancers to Circles. Maybe even do it in reverse order, like some US stations did when they switched off their analog transmitters.

  • I hope when they switch over in my region that they play all of the idents from the first BBC ident in colour- the current circle idents. I also hope they play the national anthem. Or maybe I'll make a mock video. :D

  • @9acmotoko9 Expecting a-lot aren't you?

  • @remlap lol I know it would be nice though :) I think I'll make a mock vid at some point :D

  • aw, idky everyone is goin digital and its not even the FUTURE yet =/

  • forever no!!!! (i have diginal :3)

  • @glennglog22 Uh?

  • @glennglog22 Forever in analogue yes. Forever in digital no. Until they come up with a new wacky broadcast way.

  • @remlap ok I will give you the link and will put a response on this video

  • i will be putting the Yorkshire BBC switchoff on when it happens next year

  • @Ackworth97 Please leave it as a response or link me to it please.

  • @TheScotty9646 It`s something to look forward to in the east next year. The tacelston transmitter switches last but sandy heath switches on march 30 2011

  • Thats a nice way to do it. It`s nice that the put the old bbc wales logo on it in black and white as a final goodbye

  • They certainly did that in style! I like that...

  • May I also add that the inclusion of Digit Al, the cute little mascot for Digital UK, was a nice touch as well.

  • @richartrod I didn't see mr Al, Digit there.

  • @jjovereats The little robot (Digit Al) appears at 0:45 in the clip, pointing to the Digital UK web address.

  • @richartrod I see the weirdo now. Thx for pointing that out. But analogue should remain... one channel broadcasting ads and the odd breaking news bulletin, single frequency analogue network, no regional variations, and the odd testcard saying "Oh dear. You haven't gone digital yet. For aerial testing, go to teletext page 100. That is the only teletext page here. It will show blocks of varying colors, and if any one of them is missing, you need a new aerial. Thank you for your time."

  • @jjovereats Yeah, he is a weirdo, but he's quite whimsical. I live in the United States and our entire nation had its digital switchover in one fell swoop, on 12 June 2009 at midnight in each time zone. For 30 days afterward, select local analog channels across the nation stayed on as an "analog nightlight" telling viewers left behind how to go digital. At least in the UK your country is doing it in stages, which is much more merciful than what happened here (LOL).

  • @richartrod There is a big difference on how it's done from country to country: I can't recall the date when it happened here in the Netherlands, but the funniest thing: almost all digital sign-offs I find on youtube state that you can keep watching with your normal antenna, and only have to connect it to a digital receiver: here in the Netherlands 'they' (whoever that may have been) stated that you couldn't use the 'normal' antenna anymore, and had to buy something else...

  • A nice farewell message and final closedown to the analog TV era in Wales from BBC One, including the classic BBC globe fading away into memory at the end. I agree that a final playing of the Welsh national anthem or "God Save The Queen" would have been a nice touch, but this was really a nice farewell.

When we went digital in the USA in 2009 most TV stations simply cut the signal off without any closedown or farewell message, just to get the damned thing over with. BBC One Wales had class.

  • Nice!

  • I think they should of played the national anthem but thats just me.

  • @9acmotoko9 Yes they should of played Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau and since it's the BBC God Save The Queen.

  • BBC1 Wales goodbye to Analogue television. Digital is new.

  • @NikitaFilatovFan3040 but its not gone forever maybe they will bring analouge tv back you never know but its on digital

  • Was hoping they would have played Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau

  • @MisterSenseless So was I, ah well S4C did.

  • Was this recoreded on analogue or digital? What I mean is do they put that send off only in analogue or in both? Cuz the region I live in switches over in 2011.

  • @9acmotoko9 Analogue only, I believe they had separate access to the analogue play out system that night especially.

  • @remlap Oh ok, do you remember what time this was?

  • @9acmotoko9 The continuity for the show closest to midnight.

  • I've got a widescreen telly and my analogue still broadcasts in 4:3. That means the edges stretch. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • @FrancisIdents Analogue does NOT do 4:3 or 16:9 WS. It is 14:9, you should set it to 4:3 OR 14:9 depending on your setup.

  • @CHANNELMICHAEL

    Thankyou =)

  • @CHANNELMICHAEL Not exactly true PALPlus which is widescreen is possible but never really implemented here in the UK.

  • @remlap True. But I was speaking about UK analogue, not PALPlus.

  • @remlap Granada had a dabble in PALplus widescreen as did Channel4 but it sadly didn't last long.

  • @AnthonyUK Exactly a friend tells me Das Erste from Germany in Analogue on satellite uses PALplus to this day.

  • will they do this to analogue in the south uk plz reply

  • @madboy1able I am in the south UK, its called South Wales. It depends on your local BBC region.

  • @madboy1able in 2012 it depends on where you come from

  • Great way to shut down Analouge BBC1 with information about how to continue watching the channel.

  • Where was the National Anthem "Land of my fathers"? - At least S4C had a decent farewell montage.

  • Good old Wales! Looking to the future!

  • Well done BBC Cymru Wales. That's the way to say goodbye to analogue after over 50 years of Welsh transmissions.

  • Farewell analogue BBC-Wales !

Nice to see that BBC gave a Good Bye on that transmitter ! 5*

  • Nicely done, Cardiff!

  • I'd like to see S4C's analogue sign-off!

  • @pookerville Then check my profile. Or search for emm3fXAAMRo on youtube

  • awsome good bye fairplay :L

  • Excellent way to say goodbye.

  • End of an era. Great sendoff.

  • I had goosebumps when I watched that live! Was a great way to say to BBC Wales Analogue for good!

  • End of an era. Great sendoff.

  • Thanx for the upload.

Its a shame that the BBC didn't make a tape of this last August and carried it through every time a transmitter went off in that region instead of the switch off the middle of something approach all other regions had.

    Good sending off though.

  • Nice. That was the early 80s BBC1 Wales logo, in black and white, right? Was it a recording, or did they give the mechanical device one last spin?

  • @JASpiring I believe they filmed the old mechanical globe specially for the closedown. They also used it for a Wales retro ident into the second series of Life on Mars.

  • @treffynnon19: Not quite, I am sure this one was dug out from an 80s archive tape and the colour removed. The model currently resides in a museum, I believe. As for the Life on Mars ident, it may have been sourced from an archive tape as well, although the national version was poorly computer-generated.

  • @PolyBrow they dug the model out for Life on Mars - there are photos of them doing it on Flickr

  • Great send-off. Very poignant. Thanks for uploading.

  • That was a really nice send off to analogue

  • nice talking dad

  • @nextgenguru This is your dad narrating?

  • @wackywelshlad Yeah! Great send off, huh?

  • continue the new bbc1 logo!

  • @NikitaFilatovFan3040 there is a new bbc one logo febuary 2011, BBC One is completly changing... :-(

  • this makes me want to cry :[ bye bye analogue!
