Probably around the same moment people start accepting the science that tells us that global climate change is happening and we're the cause of it. Another oddity is that even if we assumed it wasn't true you'd think we'd at least want to start pushing towards energy independence as we import much of the worlds oil production which is a security risk and it means we're spending more money on other countries than we are stimulating our own economy even if AGW wasn't true.

Right, why wouldn't it anyways? Many other countries don't want to get aboard going greener because the US is sitting on it's hands. It would be great if we were able to study the fluctuations of plant productivity over a longer stretch of time. Say, 12 million years. We don't really know for certain that this latest data is abnormal in respect to a longer time study. This may very well be a normal cycle in the sense that it's not the first time but rather the thousandth or millionth time this has occurred. This science may be the best we have, but it's far from concrete.
1) Oddly enough we have a very good idea as to what has caused large climate changes in the past, none of which are at play now have been for a few thousand years nor will be for a few thousand years in the biggest cases.
2) It's rather concrete enough since most of it is actually basic physics and observations that point to the explanation of increased ghgs that disperse evenly throughout the atmosphere independent of local temperatures.
@garith21 You can't deny that the time frame is quite small when you look at the bigger picture. The science is good, no doubt about that. My concern is that people look at this and say " Wow, we are destroying the planet fast!" Which I believe is utter nonsense. When science can prove their point with a more accurate scale, then we can trust it. I myself believe in truth and science has always been my guide. I'm not a person of faith. I believe Darwin was correct. Bigger time study is needed.
quite small? Paleo climateology goes back well over millions of years and thermometers go back well over a hundred. Most of AGW is based on basic physics not even the reconstructions. This topic has also been under discussion since before the 60's and most of the scientific community became convinced around the 90's when the last anomalies that contradicted global climate change were addressed with evidence and no legitimate objections seemed to be left.
Hey I'm always for more study, more study is how science corrects it's self, however saying that you reject the conclusions because it's not a big enough scale when most of it is actually the basic physics I can't help but wonder if you've really done much reading on the topic. If people can find mechanisms that contradicts the basic physics of AGW that would be wonderful, but saying "bigger time study" is frankly a classic delay tactic.

I noticed a distinct undertone of "HUMAN ACTIVITIES" as being the main cause of our demise. I for one place more value on human life. Um, science merely informs of what's happening what people decide to do with that information is independent of science. Your argument is the same as saying atomic theory doesn't work because you don't like the nuclear bomb or that it can and has been used.
There's many things we can do, but what we do do defines who we are, jumping from "we're the problem" to "therefore we must be exterminated" is a huge leap of logic with no connection.
Second, these are conclusions that are a result of the scientific process and decades of peer review, the only real bias is towards reality and if we just do nothing and even the best case scenarios are true with business as usual we'll have the worst things that people say government would forces on us forced on us by nature. Granted it will likely take a few generations before it happens but I happen to care about the generations after me as much as the previous should have for us.

I have heard a proposal about how to get super clean energy. Cover the moon with solar panels. The moon has next to no atmosphere so none of the sunlight would be blocked. This energy would be beamed back to the earth using some sort of light/radio waves. Beaming energy in this way is highly inefficient. But, even considering this, the amount of energy we would get on the ground is 7 times more than the entire globe uses currently. All we have to do is spend a few trillion dollars. no problem.

Another oddity is that even if we assumed it wasn't true you'd think we'd at least want to start pushing towards energy independence as we import much of the worlds oil production which is a security risk and it means we're spending more money on other countries than we are stimulating our own economy even if AGW wasn't true.

It would be great if we were able to study the fluctuations of plant productivity over a longer stretch of time. Say, 12 million years. We don't really know for certain that this latest data is abnormal in respect to a longer time study. This may very well be a normal cycle in the sense that it's not the first time but rather the thousandth or millionth time this has occurred. This science may be the best we have, but it's far from concrete.

1) Oddly enough we have a very good idea as to what has caused large climate changes in the past, none of which are at play now have been for a few thousand years nor will be for a few thousand years in the biggest cases.
2) It's rather concrete enough since most of it is actually basic physics and observations that point to the explanation of increased ghgs that disperse evenly throughout the atmosphere independent of local temperatures.

My concern is that people look at this and say " Wow, we are destroying the planet fast!" Which I believe is utter nonsense. When science can prove their point with a more accurate scale, then we can trust it. I myself believe in truth and science has always been my guide. I'm not a person of faith. I believe Darwin was correct. Bigger time study is needed.

quite small? Paleo climateology goes back well over millions of years and thermometers go back well over a hundred. Most of AGW is based on basic physics not even the reconstructions. This topic has also been under discussion since before the 60's and most of the scientific community became convinced around the 90's when the last anomalies that contradicted global climate change were addressed with evidence and no legitimate objections seemed to be left.

Hey I'm always for more study, more study is how science corrects it's self, however saying that you reject the conclusions because it's not a big enough scale when most of it is actually the basic physics I can't help but wonder if you've really done much reading on the topic. If people can find mechanisms that contradicts the basic physics of AGW that would be wonderful, but saying "bigger time study" is frankly a classic delay tactic.

I noticed a distinct undertone of "HUMAN ACTIVITIES" as being the main cause of our demise. I for one place more value on human life. It seems to me that all this research is leading to the inevitable conclusion that the only tangible answer is the extermination of the source. I reject the notion that humans are bad for the planet.

Some of mans activities may effect small "localized climate changes", but causing global climate changes is unrealistic. I was horrified at what I found-out & at first, refused to believe it was happening. I have always faced problems head-on - never been a person to bury my head in the sand but the one thing I'm not is a conspiracy theorist - have never been a subscriber to conspiracy theories - always a realist.

I have heard a proposal about how to get super clean energy. Cover the moon with solar panels. The moon has next to no atmosphere so none of the sunlight would be blocked. This energy would be beamed back to the earth using some sort of light/radio waves. Beaming energy in this way is highly inefficient. But, even considering this, the amount of energy we would get on the ground is 7 times more than the entire globe uses currently. All we have to do is spend a few trillion dollars. no problem.

@isawanangel2 interesting video. I could see the system collapsing at around that time. But I assume that a great deal of humans will revert back to hunter-gatherer type groups for about 200 years. Steadily dwindling in numbers as the warming environment becomes increasingly hostile. After those 200 years, humans will be no more. At least that is how I see it if we do not act decisively soon.
