  • It's always fucked up how much U2 I hear in this. Either Lanois influences U2 or the other way around. Either way, it's fucking great!

  • @revton3197 Lanois produced U2 to what they are. I prefer Lanois

  • jim wilson, the onetime rollins band guitarist that is...

  • Dan is the MAN.

However, if you like Acoustic -Tim Reynolds drives this one home here

  • Just saw him with Black Dub in DC a few nights ago. This man is a genius. He's got more soul in his big toe than just about anyone else out there. I was moved so deeply.

  • Beautiful song!

  • Linkin Park - The Messenger

  • Daniel Lanois.....j'aime votre musique!

  • Daniel Lanois...je vous aime!

  • The beauty of Live recording.....pure and raw talent! Thanks for sharing

  • This isn't the original. The Original was by The Tea Party, But a good cover.

  • @yoyomasta47 Actually Daniel Lanois wrote this song and released it in 1993, the Tea Party remade it, this is just a more recent version by Daniel Lanois.

  • @yoyomasta47 Actually, Dan wrote it. Tea Party covered it putting they're spin on it with Dan's complete approval. ;)

  • does anyone have a video of Death of a Train by Daniel Lanois

There are a couple floating around but both are covers

My favorite Lanois Song and one of my favorite songs

  • @itsjustadrianfoo

lol ... nice one, all that's missing is the cigar.

  • those two voices matches very well!

  • Checkout the version of this song by Trihouse.

  • The first CD I copied to my computer was Acadie.. Second, Bob Mould's Workbook. Both many years ago

  • These guys are amazing live. I hope he plays with this lineup again soon. A MUST SEE

  • I found this video by accident, and wow. I'm super glad I did :)

  • please put the real official video !!!

    Very rare !!!!

  • Québec power!

    \m/

  • total earfuck :54

  • Anyone check out Daniel's newest band Black Dub? They have some great live vids up on vevo. Definitely check out Ring the Alarm and I Believe in You!

  • @nmg18ismuzik I saw Black Dub last night at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. They were superb (even without the bass player-extraordinaire, Daryl Johnson -- I couldn't catch the replacement bassist's full name...Tio somebody, from Tijuana...but he was more than adequate). And, as a lifelong drummer, I am continually amazed at the drumming of Brian Blade. His signature playing is immediately identifiable.

Bottom line...How nice to witness great musicians at the top of their game.

  • just beauty and deep!!!!

  • Reads lak quite a resssamaaay areckin sur.

  • Quebec Power!!!

    \m/

  • He is a national treasure!

  • Anyone here about his new band Black Dub? Got to see them perform live in NYC last week, they were awesome!! You can check out some of their videos on VEVO

  • @nmg18ismuzik

Look for Daniel Lanois, he produced lot of stuffs:

The Joshua Tree - U2 in 1987 for example...

Worked with U2, Bob Dylan, Neil Youg, Willie Neilson, Peter Gabriel...

Made 9 albums himself, the 1st one in french, is from Quebec! He plan to make some folk album in french, about old songs and oral legends he said recently on TV.

Oh, he also did the ''The last Mohecan'' (Le dernier des Mohicans) soundtrack ...

  • Love Q, and love Daniel Lanois !!!

  • I still keep coming here and listen to this wonderful version of this great tune. And it just keep on hitting me right between the eyes,- Daniel..... if you ever need a new band member, just call me.......

  • Absolutely brilliant....he makes my soul hurt.

  • How nice it would be to have this kind of messenger. The only thing better would be if he arrived with chocolate.

  • Daniel Lanois is a friggin' genious. Respect!

  • @BitHprod Genious in his own music and genious for U2 when they took a new direction near 1986. And he was born near Montreal, which I'm proud of.

  • you brought some tears too my eyes man

  • This tune should be played in schools and kindergardens every morning to let kids know what music is all about......... Wow. This is just a killer song in a great version.

  • Great song, but Jeff Martins voice just ads so much more depth and meaning to this song.

  • Thank you~!!!! for this amazing post!

  • Rock on, Daniel!

  • One of my favorites, really nice version ! thank you

  • Gorgeous harmonies.

    Gorgeous guitar solo.

    Gorgeous P90 tone.

  • Thanks for this song, Mr. Lanois!

But imo it´s not even close to the Tea Party version. No disrespect, but Jeff Martin´s voice conveys so much more.

  • Just heard this song on CBC radio and loved it! Sweet.

  • Loved it <3

  • very nice ! です.

  • This is such a beautiful song. Even though this is the original, I do prefer The Tea Party version, probably because I heard it before this one. A great song regardless of who performs it.

  • @stogma I respect the effort by Tea Party, but as a long-time Lanois fan, I prefer the vulnerable rawness of his version more. To each his own. I'm thrilled that other bands are performing his songs, and making them their own.

  • also: the prechorus on this is as about as good as three part harmony gets. words can't even describe.

  • agreed, fucking gorgeous guitar, which he plays wonderfully.

and that knowing smile at 0:21? conveys the entire emotion of a performance like this in a split second

  • Check out Chris Finch's excellent bio piece on Daniel at lifeasahuman

  • it's magical how simplicity works !!!! Less is more, and always will be !!! Superb !!

  • This song is so special. It's so simple, and straight-forward, but it's so incredibly haunting.

  • uplilting.

  • Don't understand it. This original is so much better than The Tea Party's version - it's got way more soul.

  • I think that Jeff Martin has a much richer voice than Daniel Lanois. I'm not saying this version is bad, rather both version ought to be judged on their own merit .

  • Well, this isn't a version. This is an original. I prefer this one.

  • I like it very much

good singer and good song !!

  • The point is, the guy WROTE this song.....sure, the Tea Party did it justice, but the bottom line is that this is HIS song, and this is an outstanding performance of it.

  • BjGard: "Tea Party was a much superior version but i really respect the original as well... "

I love The Tea Party version, but this one is growing on me, to a point where I am not sure which version is "better".

I suppose the point of this is that Daniel Lanois is a great producer because he is, in fact, a talented musician. I think this is one of the reasons why The Tea Party was such a successful band in Canada.

  • Tea Party was a much superior version but i really respect the original as well... Rarely does a classic get covered properly.. With such piles of ass disgraces like AFRICA and really anything by a rapper/ hip hopper

  • That goldtop is beautiful.

  • Yes it is.I love "Orange Kay"...It whispers here and sends you to hell in "Orange Kay".

  • Awesome song but i feel like the tea party puts more intensity into it, i like their cover a bit better

  • Mother Superior accompaning... :)

  • i just saw him in Lodz Poland 2 days ago... unforgettable concert! Fabuloso

  • wow. just wow. this man is amazing. i wish i could sing like that.

  • Solo una palabra: excelente!

  • God I love this.

  • I am in love with his tone on this song.. wish I could figure out a patch for a Zoom G1 pedal...

  • first time hearing his version, I had previously only heard The Tea Party's version, and as much as i love TTP, this version is waaay better :D

  • Is this song about a specific event? Its so beautiful.

  • One of the most powerful songs ever written.....cheers.....DL

  • It really is isns't it. Just so passionate.

  • Hey how cool is DL with the BEARD!! And WOW what a version of this - go and see a concert of his before you die.

  • Daniel wrote this song and the Tea Party covered it from him

  • Good stuff, i love the cover of a great band the Tea Party, and this has some great harmonics

    Classic Talent

  • Wow,-what a tune, what a band and what a performance.... this is just wunderfull to watch.....

  • I love the way Daniel plays the guitar. Delicious.

  • Leaves me breathless!

  • oh man, so good, so so good.

  • very .. very good ..... !!!

  • jian and daniel canadian treasures !!!!!together! love it

  • Great tune. Great performance.
