yo you could def use the guitar string side to mimic a sitar sounding instrument, like egyptianish...get a loop station and record the sounds and make a whole track..just an idea
This is pretty cool Bro. I made a washtub bass out of (obviously) a washtub, a broom handle, and weedwacker line. The tone is pretty cool. I usually hit the string with a drumstick. If you want to make another thing like this you should try plastic with weedwacker line, (easier on the fingers) deep strings always zone me out, haha.
Haha, it is. Unfortunately, I got rid of the guitar side to experiment with having more strings... I kinda wish I hadn't now. But it wouldn't be hard to make a smaller version for higher strings.
I like your use of hardware and household items. Great tuning system. Did you ever consider bowing the strings to get a sustained sound. You might even be able to bow two strings at once.
I agree with scatt-nasty - the smaller guitar end sounds a bit like a sitar; with slightly less aggressive initial plucking, you can get it to sound really sweet.
The guitar end has a really ethereal floating crystal feel to it. Nice handywork and ingenuity. I'd be interested to see any other projects you are working on.
put in a loop screw, tied a piece of clothes line to it, and then attached the other end onto a tall wooden pole. i think it might have been a shovel or broom handle, something like that. so then you would stand on the bucket, to help hold it down. lever the stick into the side of the top, this would tense the rope, and buy moving the handleback and forth you could change the tension while your other hand plucked the string.
cool. it reminds me a bit of a "gut bucket" bass that a friend of mine made once. using a rather large metal bucket, turned upside down. he drilled a hole in the center,

Alien instruments are the greatest.
You could get some nice, near-infinite sustain if both bowls were the same, resonant at the same pitch.

dude! the bassline you played on the highest string sounded like the bassline for diamonds on my windshield by tom waits

I've got some ideas about the guitar end. I think I might try to build one this weekend. I'll share if I'm onto something.

I've had several people mention the bow, but I'm poor and don't like to associate with string players (jk), so I can't get my hands on one.
