  • Newb....

  • very cool!!! Great possibilities for foley stuff.

  • Wow, needs to be tuned! :)

  • play it with a bow

  • yo you could def use the guitar string side to mimic a sitar sounding instrument, like egyptianish...get a loop station and record the sounds and make a whole track..just an idea

  • lololol :D

  • Sinister Minister

  • Alien instruments are the greatest.

You could get some nice, near-infinite sustain if both bowls were the same, resonant at the same pitch.

  • dude! the bassline you played on the highest string sounded like the bassline for diamonds on my windshield by tom waits

  • I love it! I've tried it in person and man, it is hard to play, but it's more fun than it is hard.

  • cool could u play some song by les claypool ^_^

  • I wish! Only Les can play like Les.

  • love the creativity

  • um dude you took way to much lol, but i guess i did to cuz i havw make stange stuff like that too

  • 5 stars man !!, you're a genius !!, love it !!

  • it scared me when you accidentally hit the camera! :D

  • wow.. changing the string note by adding tension to the other strings since they're attached.. nice

  • nice upright, Two thumbs up

  • I tried to make one of these and now my mom is all pissed off, and I'm grounded. Thanks a lot.

  • Uh-oh, I hope she didn't ground me! Sorry you got in trouble. But it was in the name of science! Or something. Maybe in the name of music?

  • Classic

  • This is really cool. It's a neat idea and honestly, I'm a little surprised it works as well as it does. High Five!

I've got some ideas about the guitar end. I think I might try to build one this weekend. I'll share if I'm onto something.

  • Please do share! Home made instruments are awesome.

  • was that opening bass line bela fleck and the fleckstones!?

  • Yeah! What a bass line.

  • sorry, man, but that sounds like crap

  • I guess you'll be wanting your money back then.

  • Hey, if anyone breaks into his house then they won't be stealing his bass guitar.

  • thats not a bass guitar.. its a bowl with a broomstick and some wires.. IDEA

shizohal, give it a groovy name and call it modern art!

  • awesome! i want samples

  • that does not sound awsome.. sounds like crap because its got too much of a metallic twang.

  • what did you serriously expect??! it's made completely of metal!

  • I laughed my ass off when u bumped the bowl :P

    Awesome idea man, rock on!

  • Hey not bad! So far all other home made guitars I've seen seem to have been inspired by dying cats.

Yours must have been inspired by a UFO?

  • That has a very creative design to it. Keep at it.

  • lol, nice one

  • the other instrument sounds a bit like a sitar

  • o ya i can here that now

  • This is pretty cool Bro. I made a washtub bass out of (obviously) a washtub, a broom handle, and weedwacker line. The tone is pretty cool. I usually hit the string with a drumstick. If you want to make another thing like this you should try plastic with weedwacker line, (easier on the fingers) deep strings always zone me out, haha.

  • was that sinister minister? im trying to learn that on bass and im trying to learn the solo part

  • very inventive,

  • cool!

  • Cool stuff, I just wish people once in a great while would actually mike stuff like this so it would song cool. It's not hard, really!

  • Watch my latest video!

  • awesome!

  • That is freakin fantastic.

  • lol "home depot" "wal-mart"

    THAT... is awesome!

  • Thanks - your name made me laugh btw

  • cool

  • great for cartoon sounds. especially that guitar "plink".

  • Haha, it is. Unfortunately, I got rid of the guitar side to experiment with having more strings... I kinda wish I hadn't now. But it wouldn't be hard to make a smaller version for higher strings.

  • This is probably my favorite instro so far, good job, I wish i had one

  • Very cool! I'm inspired.

  • I like your use of hardware and household items. Great tuning system. Did you ever consider bowing the strings to get a sustained sound. You might even be able to bow two strings at once.

  • I've had several people mention the bow, but I'm poor and don't like to associate with string players (jk), so I can't get my hands on one.

  • Wow he actualy got sinister minister to work on that thing.

  • Hall of the Mountain King! Pretty crazy instrument you have made there..

  • nice variation of a bullfiddle. has a lot of potential but looks difficult to play.

  • caponebx, did you note your caps-lock is on? shizohal, i do really like you video, it's probably pretty difficult to play!

  • 2:14, clunk! really good instrument. keep up the work on "in the hall of the mountain king"

  • lol, the clunk is my favorite part!

  • all adds to the music lol! :-P

  • =) your face lks like a buddahs lol

  • Nice work!

  • that is awesome one of coolest things ive seen in a very long time.

  • you dont get out much...

  • you're too right.

  • I think we have a winner.

  • damn the guitar one is hot

  • Really wonderful and creative idea.

I agree with scatt-nasty - the smaller guitar end sounds a bit like a sitar; with slightly less aggressive initial plucking, you can get it to sound really sweet.

  • thats pretty creative dude, good job. the guitar strings sound like a sitar

  • thats really cool. keep practising playing. very impressive instrument.

  • very creative, nice

  • That looks pretty cool, I don't know anything about bass, so I really can't help you with making it sound better. Cool video though!

  • pretty cool...

  • what the...

  • Hey man, i saw you built a piezo pickup. what's a radio buzzer and how do you build one? /Kalle

  • wow you are very creative!!! I would love to play on this!

  • It only cost me $40 and a couple swear words.

  • ha ha, great stuff, but be aware that sometimes stuffs are just... stuff. always try to improve things, that's the key.

  • What do you mean?

  • that's amazing! make more videos of it when you improve it!

  • IF I can improve it. It's a beast to play.

  • you could make a piezo pickup for a few dollars use a radio buzzer...rock on

  • I actually just did that and it's working really well! It was so simple - for months I was puzzling over how to amplify it.

  • I would like to see a bass pick up installed on the bowl

  • very very very VERY COOL! i dig it, well done!

  • looks hard to play

  • The guitar end has a really ethereal floating crystal feel to it. Nice handywork and ingenuity. I'd be interested to see any other projects you are working on.

  • put in a loop screw, tied a piece of clothes line to it, and then attached the other end onto a tall wooden pole. i think it might have been a shovel or broom handle, something like that. so then you would stand on the bucket, to help hold it down. lever the stick into the side of the top, this would tense the rope, and buy moving the handleback and forth you could change the tension while your other hand plucked the string.

  • cool. it reminds me a bit of a "gut bucket" bass that a friend of mine made once. using a rather large metal bucket, turned upside down. he drilled a hole in the center,

  • awesome instrument man! seems like you could make some neat sounds with it...
