  • Sweet video,I subbed you.

  • I didn't know that any train ran on Cummins.

  • @trio3d I think 11 of Go's MP40s should be repowered by Cummins... Not so good of an idea as it currently has the 710GB in it

  • doesn't sound like a urbo to me.

  • Name that sound

    It's a Jet taking off?

    no, guess again

    uhhh.....a jet landing

    Nope

idk, somebody killing a cat. I give up...

    Show the video

  • @doctorfeelucky no. it sounds like a jet engine starting up (Turbine engines were the only things that sounded like these

  • @SkyhawkACE123 you seem passionate lol

  • Yes it sounds awesome, Nice catch

  • love the 645, miss those older engines they had the best engine sound imo, they screamed power

  • ALCos were nicer

  • @1jalv Absolutly not

  • @SkyhawkACE123 what IS nicer is if someone made the 265 a two stroke engine.

  • That trains got a sweet ass cummins!

  • @FSX321 HELL NO THIS IS AN EMD 645 TWO STROKE NOT GAY ASS CUMMINS!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • @SkyhawkACE123 Cummins is far from gay. But saying this is a Cummins or any road going diesel is an insult.

  • @SkyhawkACE123 gay, ass and cummings in the same sentence.....not right ahahahahaha

  • @FSX321 can't you tell the difference between a Cummins and a Detroit Diesel? (P.S: the 645 is just a giant Series 50; it sounds like one :P)

  • @GordonFreemanD40 Yeah I know I was kidding :)

  • @GordonFreemanD40 the 60 detroit the turbo wines alot louder and sharper, the newer cummins you cat really hear the turbo you just hear the growlingf the engine.. love the train sound tho.. so how big is the turbo on the train engine

  • I posted a video responce since i railfanned these 2 old locomotive and got some close up shots. Nice catch btw love that sound.

  • lol sounds like the Detroit Diesel S50. Almost...

  • I believe the reason train prime movers last so long is that their engine rotational speeds are kept low. The diesel-electric architecture allows this...also you get dynamic braking. A loco with a full mechanical transmission would require high engine speeds, faster wear, and much more maintenance

  • Ok. I am confused. Unless the locomotive was just started, why in the hell are they just sitting there with the reverser in nuetral and jerkin the throttle? A complete wast of expensive diesel fuel and more uneccesary engine wear. If the locomotive was just started, however, this is normal as they do it to warm the engine up, but I didnt hear any loping to the idle, so I highly doubt that she was just started. Weird if you ask me.

  • @nsrailfann4life91 It's a trick that's used to build up the brake air pipe pressure faster. No doubt they just started the unit up a few minutes prior to the camera being on, & want to get moving ASAP.

  • The sound of power.

  • @bagelboi66 Hell yeah!!

  • EMD sound weird to me.... No rhythm... needs more ALCO

  • @mountainlova1009 Amen to that. ALCo and GE pwn. Nothing against EMDs because I like some of them myself, but they fail to make the same power that GE does. Sure GEs have their failures, all locomotives, including EMD, have their failures. You have to think though, the more power an engine produces, the more wear and tear the engine will take. EMDs make less power which is why they last longer. If they made power like GE, they would fail alot. The EMD turbo is always boosted too high.

  • Comment removed

  • @mountainlova1009 Continued.. EMDs turbos are so loud because they are set to a high rate of boost (air that is force inducted into the engine). GEs turbos arent boosted like that because they dont need to be. Thats why GEs chug and EMDs whine. Its a difference in how power is made. The GE 7FDL and GEVO 12 engines rely more on their internal components and make alot of raw block power while EMD relys solely on their turbos. If an EMD loses it's turbo, it is no better than an oversized toy train.

  • @nsrailfann4life91 Um, yeah... About that. What about EMD's non-turbo 567, & 645E series? LOL Those can make upwards of 2,000+ HP each without the need of any turbo. Just sayin' man. There are plenty of EMD GP38's, GP7's,GP9's, E, & F units, etc. out there without turbos that can hold there own when it comes to moving the goods.

  • Woot CN.. there is a CN track that goes by near my cottage in Parry Sound, Ontario ;p love the paint job on these things

  • Do those engines last long before a overhaul????

  • @TheYTCable Yes, because it is an EMD : )

Every engine is checked from 6-8 months for an inspection

  • @SkyhawkACE123 well how long can GEs last?

and do you think EMD engines in GE shells would be good? GE body plus the EMD engine?

  • good audio quality :)

  • @xlechasseurx Thanks!

  • @SkyhawkACE123 8 meter behind my home we can see like 6 rail ... xD!! amazing spot for train lover!! np prob btw! :)

  • Wow! Thats a bit hover!

  • its not the engine its just the cleaner hoovering...

  • sounds like something from trainz

  • @MrTransman99 Yeah!

  • He's either pumping up the air or they do load checks out on the road now. Nothing like the sweet sound of a turbocharged 645e3.

  • @Turbocharge1000 Excuse me?

  • Comment removed

  • @Turbocharge1000 Do you have some sort of mental retardation issue? I cant understand what you said nor do I car because it is a wait of my time. Thanks for the view though!!

  • @SkyhawkACE123 DON'T FEED THE TROLLS!

  • @ecologist96 Ill be sure and not do that

  • I think the engineer forgot to put the reverser in a position other than neutral! Good vid

  • nice Turbo!

  • gotta love the sound of EMD

  • @montedude414 You think? Ohh well thanks for the view!

  • @montedude414 dick

  • @GoldenCreekValleyRR Thank you

  • @montedude414 Meathead

  • @montedude414 Dude you should really screw off!

  • I want to hear that Turbo on a Powerstroke Ford!

  • @Motorfordtoyota The turbo in this locomotive weighs more than a whole Power Stroke engine! Unless you've got a 170 liter, 18 ton engine to match, that turbo won't be making any sounds. Locomotive engines make 18-liter semi truck engines seem small, let alone tiny pickup engines.

  • @jetengine7 I was just joking. lol. Ive seen locomotive diesels being dissassembled for a rebuild. They are MASSIVE!! lol. ANd I dont know why I said Powerstroke since I hate fords. lol

  • XD sounds like a space ship taking off or something.

  • Does not sound too heathy...

  • That whine reminds me of my wife! LOL

  • awesome sound..nothing sounds better!!

  • I've always wondered, why do canadian locos have so many windows on the cab?

  • this is nothing. not a big "train" fan. i do like the emd engines. we used to torture test these engines on a gen-set platform for hours and hours at a time. full power and full load. if you want reliable power now (less than 30 secs.on a cold start) call emd.

  • Can someone please translate

    the description of this vid...

  • @undercoverLsX A CN GP40-2W idles train in Valpo.(Idon't know where) Just listen! The engine barely got into run-8 because he got a green light. Me: is that clear??

  • @undercoverLsX read it

  • @SkyhawkACE123 What undercoverLsX was trying to say is WTF is a run-8, and how does a "green" stop a run-8 from happening.

  • @slt223 He was sitting there and when the reverser was in neutral he put the throttle in run 8 so I could do a video. This all while he was waiting on a red signal. Right as he got to full throttle the signal turned green, and he needed to head out asap.

  • Great!

  • nice sound

  • more power capt'n!

  • ah stop whining and get to work. =) but sirusly nice sound.love the sound of the turbo in the morning

  • The Two Stroke Turbocharged EMD - the most musical diesel ever built. I prefer the sound of the turbos on the 567D3/4 and 645E3 to the sound of the 645F and 710anything, but I still like them too.

  • ,bmknkmhnmn,mbnm bnmnmnnmmmn.l/:l'l608089i88popioolppoloplpol[;l;l

  • Nice Sound!

  • Nothing beats the sound of a 16 / 645. The bigger 710s in the SD70s don't sound the same.

But at a guess I would say he did that because he knew you were there with a camera !

  • Yeah! Any kond of 16-654 series sound the best. I came up with my camera and he said he would give me a show.....that he did!

  • I have been waiting for God-knows-how-long for an engineer to throttle up in idle for my camera...you are lucky xD

  • I believe the reason for this is the large exhaust silencers which are fitted to locomotives with 710 engines.

Irish Rail experimented with the exhaust system on one of their 201s (12-710G3B engine) where they bypassed the silencer. It sounded absolutely fantastic and was much more reliable, but EMD gave them a grilling over it and they reconnected it.

  • agree I like the Renfe class 333 EMD's from Spain over any 710 engines period

  • love the sound of a turbo whining & spooling

  • For the record, CN 9523 is a GP40-2L(W) No Dynamics on this baby.

  • why doesn't it have tdynamics

  • because CN didn't order them with dynamics

  • Because it was ordered without them.

  • I think he only got to notch 6 or 7.

  • What does notch 6 or notch 7 or notch 3 or whatever mean. Does that refer to the throttle inside of the locmotive? are there only 8 speeds?

  • yes the throttle in the loco, only 8 speeds

  • I've been running for about 30 years...you're close enough. :>

  • On this video i used my Canon A570 IS

  • I have a question, Does this locomotive in particular weigh in at 350,000 lbs

  • It weighs in at 263,000lbs

  • I forget, does the W mean no dynamic brakes or what? I forget because there are former CN GP40-2L's here running switch jobs at the river terminal

  • the W is just a way of determaning that it has a canadian saftey cab rrahter than a standered GP40-2, thus a GP40-2W for a saftey cab

  • Oh yeah. The L's for no dynamics. My bad. XD

  • @iceman977th No the L is a railfan given term for EMD units with a wide cab because supposedly the W is only worthy of being put on a GE. The L and the W both mean the exact same thing.

  • "W" - Wide Cab

  • Thanks for being 6 days late.

  • well if you want to be smart with me, i dont have internet at my house and i can only log in about 1 to 2 times a week, so refrain from being a smartass

  • No, not you. I'm talking to ACLTony. XD

  • lol your lucky he even answered you

  • Sorry I was late, Iceman. Just trying to help out. :)

  • It's okay man. I was in a pissed off mood those days. I got it now. Hear their K3L all the time sittin out at my friends house about 2 miles away.

  • i saw that in strathroy ontario

  • nice caught them!

  • Always enjoy hearing a turbo-charged EMD 645! Too cool. :)

  • Gotta love that sound!

  • i remember that train car come by my house were is that ?

  • Valaparaiso Indiana

  • Wow, thanks! Have you got a little bit more of this video so we can hear it run right down to idle?

  • no, sorry

  • wow ! is that an wc passenger car i saw one before during this summer
