The Japanese I've talked to always use the "It's part of Japanese culture" excuse. Why do we have to respect everything about other cultures no matter what? Despite the fact that most Japanese international students I talk to support whaling in order to "preserve our culture", when I ask them if they eat whale meat, every time they either say, "No I've never eaten it." or "Yes, I tried it once and didn't like it." I have never met a Japanese who includes whale meat as part of their regular diet.

If they stopped hunting endangered species then I would have no problem with that . The rest of the world makes a good attempt to stop the hunting and poaching of endangered species but Japan encourages it. Other countries have realized that some of their cultural traditions are simply not ok anymore and give them up. @wiggygfe The Shonan Maru was just passing very close to it; at worst it was going to give it a little love tap. But whoever was at the helm of the Ady Gil panicked and hit the throttle, throwing the Ady Gil into the side of the Shonan Maru.

The Ady Gill was the one boat that could keep up with the fleet all season and the japs knew this, hence they deliberately took it out

@1870philos i thought the cove was entertaining but not convincing enough for me to think there is a dire problem. you missed my point however, i will never feel guilty about eating meat other animals would do the same. is it a sad thing that one animal dies to feed another i suppose for some people. whale is both nutritious and interesting if you enjoy it. i will agree however the killing of dolphins is somewhat a waste no one wants the meat only certain parts the rest is wasted.

@1870philos its one thing to watch images of violence and animals being killed its another thing to be there and understand why it's done. some people are just so sensitive to something because they have never had to do these things for themselves. whaling helped save the Japanese from starvation after WWII. Just because things are good for you now does not mean you wont have to resort to "barbarian acts". we are omnivores
