Gene may not have been as technically good as some of them, [Rich, Bellson, Roach] but no-one had the charisma, likeability loving it approach that Gene had, look at his expression when banging those skins, sheer enjoyment, doing what he loved.
Thank you for sharing this joint treasure from Gene Krupa & Anita O'Day & their powerhouse orchestra from the mid 1940's. It's a double treat both visually and audio as both are excellent. A nice slower groove for this song.
Please post one of them performing my fav: "Massachusetts", it was a real rocker for its time. It's not been uploaded yet and I know I'd not do as good a job on sound and visuals as you did on this if I tried it. New and old fans of both legends would love it. Cheers.
@PENNSY671E, to me (and this is just an opinion), Bellson and Rich are phenomenal drummers without a doubt. Its like they are 2 parts skill and 2 parts feeling...To me its like Krupa is 3 parts feeling and 1 part skill..He just kinda has that basic style but plays with such feeling. In that way he is truly unique.
@yeagemk Wise! Brilliant! Perfect words. Gene had the depth of beat and honesty. Not...look at what I can do but how do you feel as I play. Big difference and that's the magic of Krupa. I talked with him twice as a kid. He paid attention to me as a human not just a kid. Big difference again! Gene Krupa was gentleman and a drummer with beat depth....on the skins and in the heart. thanks again for your astute comment. John-Hans Melcher "TheQuietDrummer"

This has a slower tempo than the T.D. version, but it does have a nice 'swing' to it.

Max Roach, Louis Bellson, Buddy Rich, and there are other greats.. But I just love what Gene does.. so I guess he may be my favorite as well..
