i was trying to watch a movie and moved the external hard drive and bumped it on something, then it disconnected and wouldn't read anything afterwards. crc comes up, is there any way to fix this, i downloaded paragon partition manager but idk what to do with it. the hdd still sounds like it spins and all, the computer also asks to format the disk before using it again but i want to watch that movie..
hii..I jst download need for speed hot persuit iso file in my C:/ drive...it works fine..when i mount it with daemon tools..but as soon as I transfer the image file to E:/ or D:/ drive & then try installing it shows CRC error..can you plz provide me with a solution?
CRC is basically a calculation performed over some data which produced some result, the calculation can then be performed over the same data again at a later data and compared with the stored result -- if it's the same, the data is good (i.e. uncorrupted), if not it is bad. It is the data that is bad, not necessarily the medium on which it is stored/transferred.
@meatpuppet76 well to do what 3dgm recommends, type chkdsk. But that doesn't actually do anything, it just checks. To attempt to fix errors type 'chkdsk /f' (without quotes) and say y to schedule it for next boot - then reboot and let it run. But chkdsk only usually checks for file system errors, to check for surface errors, replace '/f' with '/r' but this will take a LONG time on a big HDD, 6 hours or so is normal. But CRC errors often imply a bad/failing drive.
I have had to buy 2 copies of the Sims 3 due to CRC error, If I just clean the disc or buffer it, it will work then?? I really do not want to have to buy anothers sims 3 disc
Clean my disk? I dont even have a damn Windows Vista CD to reinstall it cause the computer guy did it for free, and it's his. Im planning to get Windows 7.
well i have lots of games when i want to install Crc error happend why i got regcure and regGenie didnt work can anybody help me sryy for my bas eng ,.
i got some problem but in the end i find out that is the CD not the CD-ROM ( just tried to copy anoyher disk and it worked) but i got same problem on an LG Mobile Phone Pc SUit install...at the end of instalation it gives me this error....any ideea what is wrong?
umm the thing this guy forgot to explain is taht even if it is not teh disk you could have a corrupted ram stick or many other things. this error occurs becuase the ram is corrupted and my theory is that i keeps looping aroud the same thing! The same prob happened to me a year back! check ur ram and other factors such as harddrive and storage devices!
Windows Vista has built in recovery you should have vista by now the next one is Windows 7 probably built to handle new CPU's like i7 Best to Copy your User File which contains all Video, Documents, Music ect.....
wow really interesting info and it all makes sense now. i got those. then a month later hd was total fail. good thing i had warranty or else it would have sucked. to bad for my data though. always have a back up drive guys. youll love having one. heck maybe several.
@rantasta If you run it on a system drive it should ask you to reboot then run it, did this happen? You need to press Y then enter when it asks you in command prompt then reboot manually and don't press any buttons when it appears after the reboot or it will skip the check.
@rantasta Maybe your HDD is faulty, download the free version of HDTune or something and check the SMART data from the drive. It should warn you if the drive is in bad shape although I think Windows is also meant to warn you.
@SomeMoreVideos2468 okey ty. but its weard if my drive is in bad chape. the crc is only coming on one game when im trying to install it. all of my other games is working perfectly when im installing them
@SomeMoreVideos2468 its weard if it has scratches. just bought the game and directly it did not work so i need to go back to the store and talk to them tomorrow
Would appreciate a lot if your could ask some questions about Reallocated Sector Count values that we see on everest on seagate 500gb, 1tb and 1.5tb drives.
hmmm... some good thinking... though this is extremely difficult... if you look at the structure of a disk, u'll see a pie shaped section of a circle (banana-like)... it is a physical location, it really exists... having the HD pins skip this sector all the time might require some very very very good programming... i could only think of this scenario being done in data recovery...
please correct me if i'm wrong, replies are welcome, but be nice
Indeed this is possible. There is a risk though: it is for the most part impossible (unless you go to a repair place) to tell whether the defect is magnetic, or mechanical. It could be a magnetic defect, where the sector cannot retain information. It could be much worse and the platter could be tipping to one side, and the readhead could be having an inability accessing the sector at all. Other mechanical complications could also be a factor. Use Spinrite, close the sectors, and backup ASAP.
this is new information to me... thank you i have an HD that corrupts data in a few days and mostly does it when it's close to being full... will Spinrite do anything useful?
Spinrite will basically close off the sectors. This is to force the HDD programming to skip the sectors. This will allow you to access the disk without any complications hopefully, such as extremely long pauses caused by the disk trying to read an unreadable sector. It will also reduce the risk of further damage. If you have important info on the drive, you might think about contacting a recovery shop. Lastly, awesome to talk to another DJ!
CRC is when data that is being copied (or extracted from an archive) doesn't match it's source. It's a double check method to make sure the data is copied correctly.
if you have bad sectors... first repair the drive with chkdsk x: /f where x is the drive letter and /f is the parameter that allows disk check to fix error immediately... then copy ur stuff... that's how i do it... any comments to this are welcome... please be polite
Hmm. The audio seems just a little bit out of sync.
Great question though. I had this error once on my Seagate 500gb hard drive. I was copying files from this hard drive to another. I ran checkdisk, it found an error, fixed it and after that, I was able to copy all my data. It's a newer drive, and it's been running very very well. I don't think I'll end up buying a new driver, but it's interesting that you say one should replace the hard drive in the event of a CRC error.
The best thing is to have something like HDSentinel installed. It uses the S.M.A.R.T. system of HDD's and reports any little thing that can indicate a deterioration of HDD's health. CRC are serious errors, stay alert, if you have them: think about getting a new HDD, backup the data and send the drive to RMA for repair/replace. Nowadays we can loose more than 1TB of data in one single HDD problem.

CHKDSK Will take forever Fyi
Thats why slow formattiong takes so long, because it is actually running CHKDSK, quick format is much faster.

Hi this is not a correct explanation of CRC.
CRC is in general an error detecting code. A code that can detect if a specific data has been altered (by noise or other circumstances)
Your credit Card works with CRC
