My Acer extensa would take ages to turn on , I looked at Fixya.com , the problem was the R138 resistor, I took out the resistor myself and now it turns on instantly, no more looking in vain at a blank screen, the computer industry must make billions from us charging for mobo replacements, when in fact with a bit of common sense most of us could do this repair.
please clean the contact pins of your memory sticks and resit back to their slots, then try to power up. If still does not turn on normally then it could be something wrong with the system board. Can you please tell me the brand and model of your machine?
if both are Ok, then you may want to check memory, cpu. The better way to test them is to replace with identical part. You may also want to check the power switch button for some obvious defects. If machine is still not powering up, then I would suggest opening the motherboard. If this is something you are comfortable doing then kindly check for corrosion due to liquid or water moisture...If your are not comfortable doing this then you need to get an expert's help. Good luck!
I will never cease to marvel at the wonders of the internet. But it would be nothing without people like YOU, who are willing to share their expertise on here. This video alone will help people save big bucks on having someone ELSE do this for them. I wonder how many trips to the laptop repair shop you've prevented. THANK YOU so much for posting this.
Hey when i put my multimeter tester on DC and test the power adapter the multimeter shows no reading.? I live in a 240v country and set the multimeter to 1000v. I know the power supply is ok though..just doing a practise test.
I want to test the AC and the laptop cable has three holes ground live and neutral...where do i put the tester pins??

@underpantswedgy You will get 240V between Live and neutral, Live and Ground. Zero between Neutral and ground

That was very helpful. Great video.
So it didn't power up because it was looking for power from the battery and not the adapter?
